    Pros

    Nice corporation atmosphere, relaxing, and very well structured process.

    Cons

    Too many last minute changes on projects that would deploy the next day or on the current day. The communication and approval for certain projects needs faster response times.

    I have been working at OfficeMax as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

    I work as a contract accountant in the Sales & Margin section of Finance department and people were very friendly and personable. The work was complex but achievable and the deadlines weren't too bad, with the exception of period close. Good pay for contract work and my supervisor was particularly understanding of the need for work-life balance, and that's not really something I've found elsewhere.

    Cons

    The part of my job that dealt with sales managers was never fun because they will go against the contract just to please a customer, even if it's to the detriment of the company. That, and with the merger people were a bit forlorn because their jobs will be ending after the new year.

    Pros

    The managers always had an open door policy, and were happy to talk with you about anything. All of my co-workers were always willing and eager to help me learn, whether it was about how to best approach a new project or steps you can take to make your current project easier and faster. Basically, the people were very friendly and always willing to help. Once I even had a co-worker realize my plate was getting too full so she offered to manage one of my projects until I finished up the harder ones. No, the manager was not involved at all. Although I told the manager when I recommended the employee for the monthly MVP contest.

    The department is huge and highly encouraged celebrating birthdays, so almost on a weekly basis, there would be treats for all the employees to enjoy and decorated cubicles. :)

    Cons

    I really can't complain about this job. I regret leaving and I honestly wish I stayed with the company. I resigned to pursue my life dream of attending Law School. I'm now done with law school, drowning in debt and no job to show for it. This was a great place to work, opportunity to move up if you wanted as long as you proved you can handle the responsibilities. Great Pay, Management always gave you a benefit of the doubt and were understanding.

    Advice to the Pricing Department managers: Continue to rock the Pricing department.

    Excellent management, great training from store manager and direct supervisor, good time-off policy, positive attitude from all staff members, efficient problem solving.

    Cons

    Sometimes, there are issues with scheduling my department; can't tell if it's because we just don't have the people to do the job or if they don't want to pay the payroll.

    Strong leadership team on B2B side of the business, lead with passion and integrity. Culture of empowerment and teamwork.

    Cons

    Merger with Office Depot turned into takeover by Office Depot which led to the layoffs of many great employees. Sad to see a great company be absorbed by one more focused on short-term gain than long-term value creation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    OfficeMax was far more successful in the B2B environment, OD leaders need to take lessons from the OMX team.
