    Pros

Learned lots about retail. They make you learn every job at the store so you can bounce around if needed which is nice for future jobs.

    Cons

Customers can be irritating sometimes, but hey that's retail for ya. And working conditions can get a bit stressful if not enough people are working. Also not enough breaks for employees I feel.

    Advice to Management

Give more than one break if working an 8 hour shift or longer. Or at least split them up.

    Pros

Flexible hours and a good amount of personal days given every year. ASM position has gone to an hourly position so no more 50 hour work weeks.

    Cons

The company has taken away the holiday pay for all holidays except Christmas. The medical benefits are mediocre at best.

    Advice to Management

My advice to management would be to work in the retail store for at least one week out of the year. Some unrealistic expectations are given and not enough hours of payroll to achieve all... Setting the stores up for failure.

    Pros

Store Manager is really awesome and on it. He likes his job. Co-workers are really kind and easy to get along with.

    Cons

They don't play music in the store, so if it's slow, it's freakishly quiet. Starting pay is minimum wage.

    Advice to Management

Make the online application less of a pain in the butt. Increase starting wages to attract higher quality candidates.

    Pros

Wonder Coworkers and management! Great working conditions. Nice work atmosphere , everyone helps everyone

    Cons

Rude customers. But that's expected when you work in retail. And the pay rate . It's nice for college students but not a lot even if you're full time

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work :)

    Pros

I was able to work with some really great people ranging from high school to pre-retirement, all of whom became a "family" away from home.

    Cons

The company was bought out by OfficeDepot and everyone in my store was fired.

    Pros

I absolutely love working for Office Max! Management at my store is amazing I couldn't think of a better group of people to work for! I love the connections made with the customers! Some customers insist on only coming in when certain people are working because of the relationship they have built. I love that the company doesn't only focus on the numbers but rather the customer experience. Working for a company this great really makes it hard to find a second job that I don't hate!

    Cons

Only thing that sucks is before the Office Depot Office Max merger I was a part time associate working 39.5 hours a week and after the merger they cut my hours to around 20. I just want my hours back! Being the most senior cashier there I should be getting the most hours of the cashiers.

    Advice to Management

Give your most senior and loyal employees the hours they deserve. (I am the only associate who constantly works doubles and picks up any extra shifts whenever needed)
