Pros1. it's a smallish team of extremely smart people.
2. good ideas and hard work are both noticed and rewarded.
3. bad developers are treated as replaceable automatons and tend to leave quickly.
4. recruiting has hit a real stride, and all the newest devs here are brilliant and appreciated.
5. OkCupid makes thousands of dates a day and hundreds of serious relationships happen.

About #2. Since I've been here we haven't lost any developers who added constructively to the team, and some bad apples have left. There's no one sucky left.

Cons1. we need another conference room. it's sometimes hard to find a place to meet
2. I'm getting fat from all the free breakfast

Pros- company is quick to recognize hard work (promote, give raises, etc.)
- high level of intelligence of co-workers / overall intellectual atmosphere (almost all employees are math/cs people)
- easy access to management
- startup-like atmosphere in a company that's actually already made it (i.e. secure)
- the work you do affects people's lives
- NYC street cred
- yes, you can actually use your job to get dates

Cons- quiet work environment
- sometimes slow to actually go live with code I've worked on
- missing some of the startup frills (free lunch everyday, beer fridays)

Prosthe release cycle is fast - tweaks can be launched minutes after you think of them
your work at OkCupid really makes a difference in the world
coworkers are smart and easygoing
the office is an open floor plan, so communication is easy
you get to work on some pretty cool technical challenges
the development framework includes the best HTML templating language I've seen and allows you to avoid less pleasant aspects of C++ like manual memory management
management provides helpful guidance when you need it without being micromanaging

Consthe open floor plan means a little less privacy
the custom development framework means a learning curve when you start
the development process is relatively unstructured. This is bad if you need a tight structure (like hard deadlines) to get your work done.
