I have been working at OneWest Bank full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great people, benefits are outstanding, and once you've been there awhile, the vacation time is generous.

    Cons

Currently downsizing part of the company, and most of the company doesn't seem to be interested in keeping good employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

People can make or break the company - work to keep the good ones.

    Pros

Friendly environment to work in. Good staff and managers for the retail branches. 90% of the clientele are awsome.

    Cons

Not enough growth opportunity/ not enough pay

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some of the bank regulations put in place are too stingent and no other banks use them b/c it is a private bank.

    Pros

Some talented leadership if you can work for the right manager.

    Cons

Lots of down time, employees get bored easily. Glass ceiling. Not much room for upward growth and mobility. Not flexible. Don't plan on telecommuting EVER.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to engaged your employees and listen to their input. They are on the front lines and may have valuable input!

I have been working at OneWest Bank full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Low minimum requirements and history to get in the door. Good learning experience for those new to the field, especially related to mortgage servicing from a default perspective. A decent place to get a 'glorified title' and take your resume elsewhere.

    Cons

Middle-Top heavy. Little sense of direction or stability. Very clique oriented. A 'who you know' style environment. Management seems incapable of being approachable or leading by example. Seemingly clueless about keeping employees happy. No higher education incentives. Inter-departmental communication severely lacking.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a serious long look at your middle to high level management and consider making cuts and putting more in the hands of your lower levels. In more than one department I've seen managers benefiting on the backs of a few select work horses who get very little in the area of reward or praise. Your pay is less than average for the same sort of work, so think twice before threatening job security for those at the bottom, as that is about all you have to offer.

I have been working at OneWest Bank

    Pros

They award generous quarterly bonuses, and you get all the bank holidays off. Its a very clean, comfortable and secure place to work.

    Cons

Its difficult to stand out for advancement. There is a lot of dead weight there, and they seem to get paid more only because they have been with the company longer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The performance reviews are kind of a joke. I think upper management should look amongst its employees to find out who is willing to do the work to move up, such as, take on additional responsibility.

  11.

    I worked at OneWest Bank

    Pros

    - Great location.
    - Decent bonus for those who perform.
    - Like any company, some people are fantastic to work with. Lots of smart people.

    Cons

    - Management communication within team can be better.
    - Promotions can be slow. Sr. mgmt likes to hire from outside instead of promoting from within.
    - Cost of living adjustments.
    - Work life balance issues in some groups.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a culture of respect and communication. Improve communication within group teams and provide progressive feedback in a timely manner throughout the year, not just at the end. Provide cost of living adjustments. More management leadership trainings.
