It began well and turned into several years of failed business plans and un-kept promises.

ProsThe company is full of nice, smart people. They're fun to be around, although smiling faces had become few and far between in the past couple of years.

ConsCompany description that changes as often as most people change their underwear. Products and services that either don't deliver as promised, or do at a price that's totally unprofitable to the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementResign. They offer nothing to the people they hope will make the company work.

Killed by greed - watch for phony employee reviews

I worked at Opera Solutions full-time for more than 3 years

ProsNone - management team is lost and trying to survive with smoke and mirrors. When the end justifies the means to make a few rich at the expense of employees it is hard to find a 'pro'

ConsAll fluff and no substance - has NOTHING to sell but marketing materials
No knowledge of digital - either technology or data
Spending money like drunken sailors, with nothing to show for in terms of software or IP
hired 100's of employees overnight with just one phone screen, gave them very high titles and doubled their salaries just to turn around and fire them (and yes it is true)
Constantly running out of cash and telling lies to employees regarding salaries and bonus payments that never come
No longer any competent business minds at opera
EXTREMELY dishonest with employees and clients alike - absolutely no sense of integrity
Expensive services for clients and engagements that get renewed less that 5% of the time
Look at the writing style of the positive (3+ stars)reviews ...it's easy to see that they are fake. Management is working hard to fight the flow of negative reviews

Advice to Senior ManagementKarma is just around the corner

Well that was disappointing

ProsLearned from the many mistakes managers and execs made. Made some good connections that helped me escape.

ConsManagement would lie to keep scientists around.
Managers known to encourage same day departure when you give your two weeks to save the company a buck.
Owing to clueless managers, the loudest apes would get their way.

Advice to Senior ManagementLost cause. They have no passion.

watching a slow motion train wreck w an out-of-control CEO

Prosthe space was hot (until recently); superficially the story was interesting for Opera; there was great promise for building a disciplined consulting firm with tagalong recurring revenues

Conszero consistency in execution. The CEO had a new strategy every day. Sycophants surround him and no one is willing to tell the emperor he isn't wearing any clothes

Advice to Senior Managementprobably too late to save the place without entirely new leadership; significant job cuts; and a renewed build it up again focus on the consulting w selected recurring revs model.

Just Ask Three Questions to Learn the Truth

ProsLots of Potential and good people. But no one at the wheel. The company is flat out untruthful about its offerings and the state of them. At its best, they have smart people who are without any defined guidance. salespeople have no support and no actual thing to sell than How awesome Opera is. The CEO Surrounds himself with people who only tell him what he wants to hear.

ConsTo get the reality of this place just ask to :
1. download any product offering, particularly the magic Signal Hub
2. get a phone reference of a customer that is using and is happy with any product
3. Any customer for over 36 months willing to speak positively about Opera

Advice to Senior ManagementAdmit you are playing for a cash out, and not building a company. Stop posturing and start telling the truth.

Too Late.

I have been working at Opera Solutions full-time for more than 3 years

ProsOpera has the most compelling story and ideas in the market. And the resources to potentially deliver it. Excellent people all wanting to succeed.

ConsCompany has just announced re-org (again) with not one, not two, but THREE separate P&L focus areas, which are separate and do not work together. Products team has no developer investments, support team does not exist and no marketing or sales investments can be seen. Focus is all around raising new money and moving deck chairs around to appease those who spend their time telling the CEO what he wants to hear. No one understands or can repeat the company strategy as none actually exists. We have no guidance or career path, only the promise that everything will get better once we get more seed money. Feels like a shell of a company as the strongest and most believable leadership is either gone or demoted to irrelevance.

Advice to Senior ManagementPut customers first and stop putting sycophants in charge. Provide a clear 'we will do this' strategy.
Empower the true leaders you have left. It may be too late.

Game Over

ProsBrilliant vision and potential for products. Too bad none exist beyond powerpoint.

ConsCEO and senior management are no longer building a company, instead they are running for the exits and begging for money from system integrators for the scientists and smattering of customers. Zero cash for anything to grow the company, and in the last town hall, the CEO admitted the place was in too much disarray to be sold at this point.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo whatever it takes to put the company on solid footing, but please don't sell out to an SI and give away our potential as a pure play. That is why many of us have endured the long road-in hopes of a happy ending or IPO. Invest in either building big data solutions or classic services/consulting. decide to do one or the other. Trying to do both is killing Opera.
