    Pros

    1) There are some smart people with decent personalities working for this company (though the # of such people there are rapidly diminishing as you read this) 2) They provide lunches on Fridays 4) The jersey office has a nice view of manhattan

    Cons

    1) This is a consulting firm trying to become a big data solutions company - it is trying to develop products without hiring people who know how to manage the products. They plug consultants or programmers who do not have product managing experience to cobble together products. The result: they spend way too long building products that are not outstanding or groundbreaking in anyway, in many cases, they keep investing in failed attempts for far too long. 2) There are not many people who truly want to mentor the younger people in the firm. A lot of the "mentors" are mentors more because it is a requirement of the job given their level of seniority. 3) Environment is political, obvious practice of nepotism 4) Management or those who communicate to the rest of the company on behalf of the management (i'm not clear who's in the "management" anymore these days) also make promises to employees that they cannot keep 5) The company does not have enough cash to give out any year end bonuses or promote anyone in 2012 6) The best people in the firm are leaving. Top execs that have been with the firm right from the beginning are also jumping ship -which is an indicator of how bright the growth potential of the firm is these days as these should be the very people who believe most in the company. They have been building the company for years, given stock options, and should be waiting to reap the benefits of seeds they sowed for the firm... but they have decided to give whatever "rewards" this firm can offer to them up 7) I dont think the company has any values that are inspiring. It has a somewhat decent culture only because the little people that they hire at the bottom happen to be decent people who have a fairly good head on their shoulders and are willing to contribute to the community spirit of the company

    Pros

Although some of Opera’s best people have recently left or been pushed out, the company still has some very bright minds knowledgeable not only in Analytics but also in several client industries.

    Cons

The CEO and main shareholder is after a quick cash-out and is pushing changes that are harmful to the mid- and long-term future of the company. Morale is extremely low and most decent people currently interview with other companies, several key scientists and the heads of the London and Paris offices have left already and the quality of client work starts decreasing. HR policies and direction are inexistent and bonuses have been pathetic (or nil) for the last couple of years… Opera was built with a great business model, combining the insights of advanced analytics with the deep understanding that ex-management consultants can bring to specific industries. For years, it had a clear advantage over other big data market players. Now, it endeavors to copy the business model of software houses but without having neither the DNA nor the relevant resources for it… add to that the departure of so many good people and the constant changes in the leadership group… disaster is looming.

    Advice to Management

Get your act together and stop trying to copy other companies

    Advice to Management

The CEO needs to leave. He is clueless.

    Pros

Lots of Potential and good people. But no one at the wheel. The company is flat out untruthful about its offerings and the state of them. At its best, they have smart people who are without any defined guidance. salespeople have no support and no actual thing to sell than How awesome Opera is. The CEO Surrounds himself with people who only tell him what he wants to hear.

    Cons

To get the reality of this place just ask to : 1. download any product offering, particularly the magic Signal Hub 2. get a phone reference of a customer that is using and is happy with any product 3. Any customer for over 36 months willing to speak positively about Opera

    Advice to Management

Admit you are playing for a cash out, and not building a company. Stop posturing and start telling the truth.

    Pros

Learned from the many mistakes managers and execs made. Made some good connections that helped me escape.

    Cons

Management would lie to keep scientists around. Managers known to encourage same day departure when you give your two weeks to save the company a buck. Owing to clueless managers, the loudest apes would get their way.

    Advice to Management

Lost cause. They have no passion.

    Pros

the space was hot (until recently); superficially the story was interesting for Opera; there was great promise for building a disciplined consulting firm with tagalong recurring revenues

    Cons

zero consistency in execution. The CEO had a new strategy every day. Sycophants surround him and no one is willing to tell the emperor he isn't wearing any clothes

    Advice to Management

probably too late to save the place without entirely new leadership; significant job cuts; and a renewed build it up again focus on the consulting w selected recurring revs model.

I worked at Opera Solutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

None - management team is lost and trying to survive with smoke and mirrors. When the end justifies the means to make a few rich at the expense of employees it is hard to find a 'pro'

    Cons

All fluff and no substance - has NOTHING to sell but marketing materials No knowledge of digital - either technology or data Spending money like drunken sailors, with nothing to show for in terms of software or IP hired 100's of employees overnight with just one phone screen, gave them very high titles and doubled their salaries just to turn around and fire them (and yes it is true) Constantly running out of cash and telling lies to employees regarding salaries and bonus payments that never come No longer any competent business minds at opera EXTREMELY dishonest with employees and clients alike - absolutely no sense of integrity Expensive services for clients and engagements that get renewed less that 5% of the time Look at the writing style of the positive (3+ stars)reviews ...it's easy to see that they are fake. Management is working hard to fight the flow of negative reviews

    Advice to Management

Karma is just around the corner
