Company knows how to make money

Project Manager (Former Employee)
Broomfield, CO

I worked at Oracle full-time for more than 10 years

ProsSalary was good, benefits were great, always something interesting going on.

ConsIn certain parts of the company there is less forward momentum, and sometimes managers just come up with busy work that heads in one direction and then in an instant your projects are dropped and you go off in a new direction.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat those people who come with acquired companies with more respect and don't give the attitude of "Well, that's the W.O.W." (Way Oracle Works).

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Oracle has some of the smartest and most experienced software engineers in the industry.

Product Manager (Current Employee)
Redwood City, CA

I have been working at Oracle full-time for more than 8 years

ProsOracle is a very big company, with ~120K employees, so my experiences don't necessarily apply across the board. In my group - a technology development team at the heart of the company - we have flexible work hours, and flexibility with working at home as needed, Compensation is competitive, and very much loaded into the base salary. The primary goal is to remove compensation from the daily concerns of employees, and to provide long term stability.

ConsThe primary downside of working for Oracle are the mis-perceptions of outsiders, especially in the area of technology innovation. The perception of most people seems to be that Oracle is so big and "old" / legacy that it's not possible for us to be innovative, or disruptive, or to do anything but follow in the path of smaller, more nimble, more innovative startups etc. Nothing could be further from the truth, but it's "accepted wisdom" in most circles, even within Silicon Valley.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo more to help the rank and file see the bigger picture, the longer-term vision for the company.

Phenomenal Company to Work For

Sales Representative (Current Employee)
Redwood City, CA

I have been working at Oracle full-time for more than a year

ProsGreat tangential benefits package to offset the less than stellar base salary, and the benefit of having a position at Oracle on your resume cannot be discounted.

ConsSales in tech is inherently cutthroat, so it is often difficult to meet benchmark sales goals. While the workplace is not hostile, you are made fully aware that you are actively competing against your coworkers.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake potential career paths within the company a little more clear to employees.

We're not in Kansas anymore, we're in Emerald City

Marketing Intern (Former Employee)
Redwood City, CA

I worked at Oracle as an intern for more than a year

ProsWarm and welcoming employees with diverse cultural and occupational backgrounds. Great learning opportunities for interns. Beautiful architecture and layout of "campus". Walking around the lake is a nice, relaxing lunch break. Top quality cafeterias, gym facilities, and health services, designed to make Oracle an enjoyable experience day in and day out.

ConsDifficult for city commuters. Located 1hr15mins from San Francisco. But Oracle provides shuttle bus for train commuters.

WORKING FOR ORACLE

Software Architect (Current Employee)
Redwood City, CA

I have been working at Oracle full-time for more than 10 years

ProsThis company is alive, dynamic, it brings many challenges and opportunities that make every day exciting. It is full of great people, great minds who are encouraged to be autonomous and make Oracle the success it is. Commitment is rewarded by the ability to drive change. Things are never static, you work in a flexible, friendly and stimulating environment.

ConsOffers Approval process lengthy. Applicants cannot always wait for Oracle Offer to materialize and might join another Company as a result although they would have preferred Oracle had they received their official offer sooner.

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove the offer processing time line.
