    Pros

The tuition reimbursement is better than most companies. Holiday time is a nice perk.

    Cons

Relies on old systems, company not willing to invest in infrastructure and is cutting very lean. Blames employees when metrics are not met. Office politics and blind upper management. Decision makers have no pulse on the organization and are making decisions that are hurting the company. This company is a sinking ship. With recent decisions I give it a year before UTC sells it off.

Low pay, no bonuses or pay raises. Rich keep getting richer while the poor continue to struggle. No work life balance, no respect for employees.

    Advice to Management

Invest in infrastructure, stop picking management based on politics and pick people with actual industry knowledge.

Listen to employees as they understand the structure and can explain why decision you are making will set the company back a few years. Some have innovative ideas that would help grow the business! If you pay for an employees education you should consider listening to them as it could benefit the company.

Pay and respect your employees or the turnover will continue.

    Pros

Improving, however, some of the improvements are painful.

    Cons

Forget experience .. the only thing the "management" in my department wants are YES people. NO recognition of experience - they think they know everything!

    Advice to Management

LISTEN to people with experience - the elevator industry did NOT write the book on manufacturing.

    Pros

The colleagues at Otis are its best asset. Management's focus on safety and ethics are one of the best of all industries.

    Cons

Seems as though they want out of Connecticut. Keep cutting positions over the last several years and put the workload on the remaining employees making it very stressful. Current Management is ruining its reputation.

    Advice to Management

Senior Management needs to realize the value of its employees if it wants to remain best in the industry.

    Pros

The Company has great name recognition, but it is not held in the same regard as it used to be. Great employee scholarship program.

    Cons

Account manager position is held responsible for everything that goes wrong and has no way to fix issues. If accounts cancel they take it out of your commission.

    Advice to Management

Focus on providing what you say you will. You cannot charge extra for value that is not there.

    Pros

Tuition benefits, work life balance. "Some" nice people to work with.

    Cons

Lower management has you watching over your shoulder with one eye and your work with the other. Floor Associates are a number and that is all management cares about, the bottom line. Lots of excuses(lies) to keep raises low. A lot of age discrimination, especially to Americans by foreign bosses that think their butts don't stink because they have a college degree. Temps are treated even worse, the bottom of the barrel. There is a high turnover rate of very good employees, including Temps. It's sad that upper and middle management allow this to happen. Quality would greatly improve by keeping the good ones that take pride in what they do. Would also help to train those that need it and allow a reasonable learning curve. I have worked at other UTC companies prior to this one, and this by far has been my worst experience.

    Advice to Management

Take your eyes off your savings and stock portfolio for a while and take a good look at the backbone of your people. Moral is low and the ship is sinking.

I have been working at Otis Elevator

    Pros

Great people on the local level; highly skilled and dedicated. The folks in Bloomington care about the Company and want it to succeed - or did, until they were shut out over and over and over again.

    Cons

The biggest, messiest, most ridiculous restructuring anyone could ever imagine. Everyone is running toward the finish line for dear life, but they can't SEE a finish line - it keeps moving. There are no maps. There are no answers. Just RUN for dear life, RUN, all of you! Short-sighted decisions being made that will have a long-range impact on the Company, with shockingly little value placed on the skill or input of long-time, devoted, employees.

    Advice to Management

It's too late. You wouldn't listen before - don't ask now. Just grab a mop and clean up as best you can. Good luck with that.
