    Not a Good Career Move

    ProsDuring the time I worked at Overdrive Interactive I was given a lot of responsibility right off the bat. I learned a lot within the first few months and I was able to work on a variety of client projects. I really loved the people I worked with and they made my job experience what it was.

    ConsManagement is AWFUL and doesn't care about their employees. There were lots of problems that I spoke to my manager about but nothing could be done because senior management didn't care to solve the problems. The work was repetitive and I had little to no opportunity to work on other projects. The workload was a lot and you are expected to work late until it's done. There is no process for the way things are done and hardly any training. They frequently have high turn over and lay offs.

    Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your employees! The morale is low and people are not happy.

    No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    OK for first learning agency life, bad for career growth.

    Pros- Some good people
    - Company products and deliverables are good
    - Good learning experience for agency life

    When this is all you can get, take it. Otherwise look at any of the other 100 boston marketing agencies.

    Cons- Management is a joke
    - No positive reinforcement
    - Company run by fear

    No appreciation for anything. No communication between departments. Lack of motivation to do stellar work - " that will only make someone work just hard enough not to get fired".

    Advice to Senior ManagementWhy don't you appreciate people working under you instead of making them do things out of fear - very demoralizing and you should give back to the people that run your company.

    Overdrive Interactive is a fun place to work with great, talented people but needs to learn to respect employees.

    Pros* Fun culture - there are always work-sponsored events, awards banquets, an annual summer outing, and just a lot of really nice people to be surrounded with on a daily basis.
    * Compensation - account management gets paid well above market average for an advertising agency
    * Talent - There are so many great people at Overdrive Interactive and you will learn a LOT from them.

    Cons* Senior management is very tough to work with, which causes quite a bit of stress. Everything is important and urgent, and there is no respect or tact with which you will be asked to do something - even if that "something" is not part of your job description. And you'll do a lot of things that aren't within your job description.
    * There's no concept of "hours" or vacation time. You work all the time, and your vacation is secondary to what management tells you. You'll probably be working from your vacation.
    * Client base tends to get boring. A lot of technology/B2B clients.
    * There is no such thing as specializing on a client. Any given employee tends to have at least 5 clients to manage/work on, which gives no one any time to really learn about the intricacies of the client and apply as much as possible toward them.
    * WAY TOO MANY MEETINGS.... mostly with no set agenda or pre-read/to-dos, so a good amount of them are useless.

    Advice to Senior Management* CALM DOWN. The stress your employees feel is largely as a result of senior leadership running around and screaming
    * Words like "Thank you" and "Great job" go a long way. Use them more often.
    * Cut down on meetings. Limit the amount of meetings necessitated by the company and enforce a mandatory agenda for each one.
    * Understand that some people need a work/life balance, even in agency life. Be considerate to these people.

    "award winning" agency can mean alot of things...

    ProsGreat, young office. Lots of bright people. Lots of young people. Too many young people. Outstanding lunch options on Brighton ave.

    ConsIt says I need 20 words, but I really only need two: incompetent management. Management is not consistent in the way they handle troubling issues, and very self serving. Almost hilariously so.

    Advice to Senior ManagementManagement needs to take a really hard look at retention rate for 2009 until now, as the company has been growing. There is a reason why the best people are leaving, and the most lazy are staying.

    A ship that's sinking very quickly

    Pros- Fair compensation
    - Some really smart, friendly, and knowledgeable people
    - Good opportunity for advancement (if you're a favorite)
    - Mediocre benefits (but could be worse)
    - Some clients are cool, but some are EXTREMELY boring; what you get to work on is luck of the draw
    - The company is recognized at industry-wide Boston award shows, such as MITX, which is cool

    Cons- Management shows a general lack of respect toward employees. Legitimate concerns are ignored (or even laughed at, literally), and most employees feel that they're not thanked enough for their hard work.
    - Management does not trust employees, who are the industry experts. They get too involved and don't let employees do their jobs.
    - Women are not given management opportunities in certain departments of the company even if they strongly deserve it, and even the men are aware of this.
    - Negative, negative working environment. Many employees were actively looking for other jobs when I left, and there are 4-6 people quitting waves once every few months. Employees spend much of the day complaining (and usually rightfully so).
    - Lack of motivation to succeed amongst employees because they just don't care anymore. This lack of motivation is contagious, and it's not fun to spend 40+ hours a week not caring about what you're doing.
    - Not T-accessible and limited parking makes for an extremely inconvenient commute.
    - 10 vacation days, non-negotiable, even if you've been working at other companies for 10+ years. This should be based on experience just like salary would.
    - Certain employees are blatantly picked on by management more than others.

    Advice to Senior ManagementStart respecting your employees. Don't be shocked when the quitting wave continues, since you don't (1) trust your employees, and they know it and (2) take employees' feedback seriously at all.

    Not worth it.

    ProsThey hire their interns, they have frivolous company parties, and the office atmosphere is fun.

    ConsTerrible, ignorant management. No workflow or structure to the company. Oh, and the CEO thinks he knows marketing, but he's stuck in the 80s and reuses the same strategies for all clients. Not quite forward thinking for a digital agency.

    Advice to Senior ManagementTreat your employees nicer, offer them opportunities to grow, and realize most of them know more than you do about the digital space.
