    Good then Bad

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsWhen first started made feel like their was a lot of job growth and that they treated all employees fairly.

ConsAfter being their awhile started feeling very taken advantage of and that my value of life did matter compared to others. Summer is a very hard time to pay bills, too many employees not enough shifts.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

If Money is worth your dignity... Then this may be place for you

    Server/Bartender (Former Employee) Atlanta, GA

ProsThe money is BEYOND GREAT. Co-workers from the BOH to FOH at the Atlanta Airport location for the most part our a pleasure to be around. Doesn't mean they all work hard but far as friendliness you couldn't find a better group of individuals. We're talking maybe 7 bad apples in a very large staff that for the most part performs like a well oil machine. Friendly funny and charming are only a few words to describe them

ConsCondescending managers, mangers who racist ways are hidden under the doctrine of policy. Favoritism. Unprofessional-ism

This is not all management up there and each one does not exhibit these behaviors. Some do some of these things some do all. I'm talking 3 people out of the entire management team

Kissing up is the only way to ensure good shifts. They don't judge you on your body of work but how cool you're with Management.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to employees concern, pay attention to who's working and who's not, their are to many slackers that get away with murder, while hard working employees get overlook, put P.F. Chang's mission statement into effect and it would solve 90% of the problems. Tell employees when they're doing good not just when they're doing something wrong make them feel appreciated and not just like cogs in a wheel that are replaceable!

    Living the message

Started As Back Waiter, Eventually Promoted to Server (Former Employee) Northville, MI

ProsVery consistent business. Fairly well trading management.

ConsLong hours. Lots of upper manager changes. The jeans seem too tacky.

Advice to Senior ManagementDitch the jeans and go back to how it looked when I started in 2008.

    Ownership change

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsIntegrity about quality of food, concern for guest satisfaction

ConsDuring the buyout of P.F. Chang's I was hired as a Sous Chef for $XX,XXX. Between my salary discussions and orientation the Area Partner as let-go, the AP that replaced them gave me an additional interview and reduced the salary amount they were willing to pay, I declined.

Advice to Senior ManagementLive up to your company philosophy: “We are truly glad you are here and we will do everything we can to make you want to come back.”

Solid restaurant with no freedom to think

PF Changs Server (Former Employee) Fort Myers, FL

ProsAfter 2 years at Changs, Then multiple restaurants after, I realized how professionally it was run. A great example of how proper training techniques and structure can help upkeep quality.

ConsAs mentioned the structure of a lot of its policies helped upkeep quality. They also were far too "corporate". Due to super strict corporate pressure, head chefs, managers, no body had say in how things would operate if corporate had any say in it. Great managers at times would succumb to foolish decisions and command a team to do poor choices solely because corporate asked them too; even when admitting its a horrid idea.

This lack of room to manage and implement their own styles constantly created tension between staff and Management.

Also, the constant corporate changes of the menu and styles made it difficult to maintain a constant brand image.

Decent job, decent pay, good for students

Bartender/Server (Former Employee) San Jose, CA

ProsP.F. Chang's provides strong internal structure, as well as clearly outlined training procedures. The emphasis on customer service can be felt from the top-down; corporate and mid-level management alike encourage and support consistent service behavior. The product is average, but employees at most locations are taught to deliver above-average to excellent service. Expect flexible scheduling and manageable workloads (unless you reach management level). There are opportunities to move up, though few would recommend it.

ConsManagers work long hours (50-60 hours a week at my location); compensation is decent overall but seemingly not worthwhile for the workload (high turnover rate supports this idea). Supervisors are poorly compensated; many return to their service positions (server, bartender) because the tips outweigh both the added hourly wage and the benefit of the experience. As stated above, product is average (at best), but this is to be expected in a chain restaurant that is interested in selling its product for a reasonable price to as wide a range of customers as possible.

Worked here briefly, very corporate structure but otherwise fine.

    Server (Former Employee) Carlsbad, CA

ProsI worked here very briefly and they were in between changing managers so I'm not sure how relevant all of this will be; however, at the time things felt disorganized but were improving drastically with each passing week under the new manager. I heard later that the manager who hired me had known he was only staying for a year and so had been checked out all along. This helps to explain why it was chaotic when I got hired. The new manager seemed strict but overall it made things better.

Consthey had breakers, no bussers, the dishwashing/breakdown system was disorganized so it got backed up quickly. The sections and side work didn't rotate so if you were a favorite this was cool and if not sucks for you. three to five tables per section. I didn't make much - 20 bucks in weekdays and 70-100 on friday night as a server. But like I said i was only there a month so I'm sure I could have been moved to better sections or given more tables as I gained seniority. I left because I felt there was better potential to make more money at my other job

    Great company

Server/Certified Trainer (Former Employee) Peabody, MA

ProsGreat management and great team atmosphere positive environment and overall happy place to work. Good place to make money

ConsHard menu to learn and drink items there are alot of standards and steps of service required to perform on a regular basis that can be complicated in a busy setting

Excellent food, great atmosphere, poor compensation package

    Restaurant Manager (Former Employee)

ProsPF Chang's has an excellent cultural background. Ethics are highly regarded. As long as your hitting your SPLH budget you'll do just fine there.

ConsFor as much as that company is making percentage wise they sure don't spread the wealth. the 8 week kitchen training, while important, is a total drag if you don't speak spanish. it's HOT and I mean 150 plus on the line there...my "operating partner" was uninterested in actually developing me.

Advice to Senior ManagementTrain your operating partners to be able to develop your assistant managers.

    Stop being so cheap.

If my tiny 50k/week in sales restaurant can operate at a significant profit paying my salary now (and we do) then you all with your enormous sales can pay the little guys more, after all they're the ones slinging lettuce wraps all night

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
