    Pros

    The salary was great. The travel was cool. The customer base was awesome.

    Cons

    Good company to work for "prior" to going public.

    I worked at PAETEC full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    The leads were good and the people that work in the same job that i did were very helpful and friendly and the compensation was great on commission

    Cons

    You could never get your commission paid on time nor could you ever get the network installed on time for customers that purchased the equipment that you were selling

    Get your sales teams better managers and more products to sale

    Pros

    Some great people are working there. They allow you to take four hours a month paid time off to do charity work. In some departments there is flexibility with regards to workday hours and working from home.

    Cons

    Favoritism is rampant throughout the organization. Outside of the chosen few, survival is possible, but being successful is unlikely. Senior management is driven by gossip and innuendo. They often make decisions without understanding (or even caring for) the consequences. Employees are often micro managed and belittled. Resources are frequently inadequate to get the job done properly. Sadly, worse still, when employees leave, there is a good chance the positions will not be back-filled. The corporate culture invites finger pointing and lack of teamwork between departments and divisions. It is an us versus them mentality fomented by management. Notable failures and substandard performance is often rewarded by lightened workload. Knowledgeable and successful employees often go overlooked and unappreciated. Sales team continually receives praise from CEO while back office hears that they can be replaced.

    Advice to Management

    Get over yourselves. PAETEC is NOT the most employee and customer oriented company. Get rid of the "founders" mentality it kills employee morale as does the continual threat of layoff/firing. You should really find out who the key people are and treat them with the respect and appreciation they deserve or risk losing them all and being left with the dead wood.

    Pros

    good pay, benefits fairly easy going environment

    Cons

    terminates employees in manner that makes you think they have commited a criminal act. management believes in "black box" approach to employees. Employees are just pawns to be tossed away if politically expedient.

    follow the advice of your own book mr. ceo and ensure that management treats employees in a respectful manner come termination time.

    Pros

    you can make money but it takes lots of effort to get commission check...like weeks or months.

    Cons

    can't expect much from telecom. yo do have freedom but most management has been there a long time and a lot are morons. think car salesmen (no disrespect to cars sales people but you get my drift)

    Be positive and happy. Most management hate their job and therefore it rolls downhill

    Pros

    The top level leadership shows good insight into their field and are innovative and driven. Rank and file employees care a great deal for one another and are involved and committed to their communities

    Cons

    mid - level management and some sr. executives display a lot of me first mentality and the company overall is nepotistic and culturally cliquey... It's either you're a "founder" or you're an outsider. They don't accept constructive criticism and they are not adherent to any kind of disciplined, sound business process.

    Advice to Management

    Fix or eliminate the middle managers and be sure to promote people with actual competencies for what they will be managing.

    Pros

    Decent starting salaries and a well developed product set to sell. Also their PST (Paetec Sales Training) is a good sales training program.

    Cons

    Management in the my area is non-existent. Directors just run meetings to find out your funnel but do not take an active role in helping you close business at least from my viewpoint. Also, more senior management styles are very off putting and act as if they are better than you and want you to fail. More recently the stock falling and company layoffs show tougher roads to come for PAETEC.

    Advice to Management

    I would like them to take more of an interest and help develop talent over leaving early every day.
