This is a company that cared for its employees and actively participated in their advancement.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsPAETEC advocated employee advancement and assisted in encouraging a team atmosphere. I felt valued as an employee and enjoyed working for such a company.

ConsIntegrations were slow to happen and legacy factions were allowed to continue rather than fully integrate. Annual layoffs were disruptive and disconcerting.

Advice to Senior ManagementIntegrations needed to be complete and not allow legacy groups to continue on their own instead of as part of the new company. Also, annual layoffs eliminated valuable resources within the company.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsWorking at Paetec always brought out the best in you, because you had the chance to work along side good people with bright minds, who were were willing to mentor and collaborate.

ConsOffice politics sometimes got in the way of being able to grow and move up within the organization.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to the people with boots on the ground. They are an integral cog in your business.

This is a great atmosphere with room to grow

Senior Account Executive (Current Employee) New York, NY

ProsThe people here are great! Fun atmosphere, close team, and management keeps and open door policy for all employees.

ConsSome may get lost in the sauce if they are not willing to work hard enough in sales. Very few receive accounts when they start therefore it is more of a hunting sales position.

A lot of paperwork that is redundant and TIME CONSUMING!

Advice to Senior ManagementGet sales people selling! Hire a position which allows this to happen and takes on the job of putting orders through and completeing paperwork for engineering. Simple handoff process!

    Overall good place to work.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) East Rochester, NY

ProsMy part of the company is full of excellent people, it's a high-performance environment.

    ConsIT is lumbering and bureaucratic.
HR is not always nimble, though in general their heart is in the right place.

Advice to Senior ManagementBecome profitable (not just cash-flow positive).
    Restore 401K match.
Cut down on the do-gooder wellness healthy choices stuff.
Fix some way-out-of-whack salaries even if times are tight (have to pick and choose of course).

    Core Values = Rare Breed

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Fairport, NY

ProsThe commitment to uphold the 4 Core Values (Caring Culture, Open Communication, Unmatched Service, Personalized Solutions) makes PAETEC a unique player in the marketplace, not only for customers but for employees as well. The environment is supportive and encouraging, where managers don't need to take credit for the work of their team, but let individuals stand out.

ConsThe internal community is not as strong as it could be. With little opportunity for interaction (no main gathering place for lunchtime, departments spread across several buildings/locations), it can be difficult to build relationships between the different functional areas.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep pursuing Open Communication and sharing from the top down -- it's not common to find a company so open to talking on a regular basis. Maintain the focus on the employees. While some will always take issue with anything/everything, the feeling that you are noticed and valued makes a big difference.

Good place to work, respectful people/family

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Charlotte, NC

ProsEveryone was very friendly, including the senior management. You felt a true sincerity of you, and most managers tried to advance you as much as they could.

ConsPromotions were a bit curious as to who and why they were chosen. The overall business strategy is not highly sustainable, and we went through many rounds of layoffs, etc.

Advice to Senior ManagementReally listen to your employees more, and realize that other ideas can be better than yours. Look for innovative ways to reward your employees. Listening and enacting is a great one.

    Good Place to Work

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Rochester, NY

ProsPAETEC has open communication and leadership which is refreshing. Its a growing company with a small company feel and you feel like you can make a difference. And there must be something to be said in the hiring process because there are some very top notch, quality people there.

ConsThe entire company seems to have a go-go-go mentality, to get things done in the shortest time frame possible. That can wear people down over time.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on quality, focus on keeping things fun, focus on keeping stress levels down. There are quality people at PAETEC who would do anything for the company and you don't want to lose them.
