I have been working at PC Connection full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Many perks of the job working with so many manufacturers such as tickets, trips, and exra money. Can make a ton of money if you are willing to out in 3-4+ years at least.

    Cons

Very low $25k base pay. Depending on your Director and manager it can be a tough place to work as you're pounding the phones all day everyday with very few leads.

    Advice to Management

Put more time into developing good AM's to keep people in the position.

I worked at PC Connection full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The training the ability to potentially earn a decent amount of money. Prizes trips etc. The people you work with are great and the managers try... But they are under great pressure.

    Cons

Stressful difficult metrics once business starts growing. Company has never changed those even though their business model has changed. How can it be better to have 70 calls with 40 minutes on the phone than 40 calls and 3 hours on the phone? Who do you suppose had in depth conversations with customers or prospects?

    Advice to Management

I think you should have to train for the job and spend a week as an account manager. There have been drastic changes since most of you picked up the phone. Stop making us call all our customers for blitzes. They get tired of it hearing about a new storage vendor every 3 weeks.

I worked at PC Connection full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very knowledgeable in all the core technologies, sales reps appear to be tenured for the most part so they are able to handle the basic questions and rely on support for more of the solution opportunities.

    Cons

They appear to be considerably understaffed compared to CDW, Insight and SHI. They are still driven by the old point product sale and miss many opportunities to expand a sale and create a trusted customer for life.

    Advice to Management

stop measuring your employees as if its 1980. The old call center mentality is a dying business model and if you wish to survive you need to start managing under today's business principals

I worked at PC Connection full-time

    Pros

As a large reseller, PC Connection is a great place to understand the marketplace of all types of markets, everything from software, servers, storage, networking and much more. It's a fast-paced environment and the people are very down to earth and great to work with or for. I would recommend PC Connection for new graduates, it provides a great training ground for the aforementioned reasons.

    Cons

Whereas the strategies that have made PC Connection successful have obviously worked, it is a very conservative company that is often late to get on-board with the newest trends and technologies. Internal systems and processes are antiquated and can be frustrating and time consuming. Much of the management team have been around a long time, which can be good but some new blood and ideas would help.

  6. Helpful (2)

Decent place to work BUT only if you can tolerate company processes and low pay.

I have been working at PC Connection full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, friendly coworkers and managers, training department sets you up to succeed with entry learning structure.

    Cons

Poverty line base salary. Goals are very hard to reach, setting yourself up for success seems like a huge mountain to climb. Business environment is not as cutting edge nor reflective of technologies that the company sells. A very unattractive place to work, nothing to brag about. Fellow coworkers are sometimes unruly and immature due to a lack of authority. More accountability is needed when it comes to general process control.

    Advice to Management

Bigger base pay is needed to attract talent. Provide more opportunities for growth among teams, be more open to revolving education after the beginner training program. Reward work ethic with leads. Team managers should have a better grip on team professionalism to prevent nonsense from intruding on productivity.

    Pros

Friendly co-workers, fun atmosphere, great managers.

    Cons

Unprofessional environment at times. Rediculously low compensation for experienced employees. Increased sales = increased workload but, not increased pay.

    Advice to Management

Start compensating your Wilmington employees appropriately. Stop paying experienced, certified, IT Technicians less than $15/hr. Next time we do over $1 Billion in sales, don't reward us with cupcakes and a pat on the back. A bonus check or at least an explanation would be appreciated. Get the lower-level employees more involved in the future of the company. Be more forthcoming and transparent with financials. An employee-owned model would do just that.

    Pros

    Great company with great benefits.

    Cons

Did a $10,000 across the board salary cut just after I left. It left a lot of people with not enough money to iive on.

I have been working at PC Connection full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lot of earning potential and opportunity to win free trips to concerts sporting events and even weekends away.

    Cons

Not enough training on the products that are sold, base salary is low. It takes a long time to make good money and there is a lack of support to help build up your business. Internal processes are very slow.

    Advice to Management

Need a better way to collaborate with other departments outside of sales. Monthly training classes on new technologies.
