    Olympic Paint Rep Lowe's

Territory Manager Olympic Paint (Current Employee)
    Sarasota, FL

ProsEasy job. Training Lowe's associates on PPG/Olympic Pains and Stains. Selling and mixing paint for Lowe's customers.

ConsLow pay, Olympic is secondary paint brand behind Valspar. Store management pro Valspar.

It's a job, nothing more than that.

    Anonymous (Current Employee)

ProsThey have decent benefits, not the best I've had, but not the worst either. The pay is pretty good and they offer annual bonus incentives.

ConsThe worst part about working here is the 10 minute walk from the parking lot to the building, seriously a third of a mile walk. It's not bad during the summer, but the winters in Cleveland are brutal and that walk in the snow is the best way to ruin an entire day. Majority of the people have worked here 30-40 years. If your just out of college no one will take you seriously. As far as training, it's horrible. It doesn't exist. There is no room for new hires in this office. They literally have three people crammed into offices big enough for one person.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet more involved in day to day processes. Come up with a standardized training procedure.

    Not bad, not great

    Cost Accountant (Current Employee)

ProsCompany does a good job of hiring people that fit within the culture.
Global company, if you want to move around there are opportunities

ConsSay one thing and do another
    Salary is below other manufacturers

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you're not going to do something, don't try to BS us. We're all adults we can deal with the bad news, being misleading about it is childish.

    Good company, too lean

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Little Rock, AR

ProsPay is average. Company is worldwide. Benefits are good. Conservative management and solid finances. Lots of opportunities within the company at multiple locations.

ConsAt my location the staffing was too lean. I get this impression across the company. Management tries to keep costs low with minimal head count, which is a great idea, but in reality it makes for poor performance and high stress for the employees

Advice to Senior ManagementDo a better job integrating acquisitions. Have more central resources available for your sites to confer with if you're not going to invest in local resources.

    Solid company with poor compensation.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGreat people, good training, excellent products, room for advancement if you're self motivated.

ConsBelow average pay, rarely promote store personnel, employees are looked at as a number not a human being, stuffy/blah corporate culture.

Advice to Senior ManagementEmphasize the importance of a "mentor" to help employees navigate their careers.

The AkzoNobel Company/dba The Glidden Company was bought out by PPG. I was laid off. I was effected by the buy out.

    Outside Sales Representative (Former Employee)
    Jacksonville, FL

ProsI like their perks. Company car, laptop computer, cell phone for the sales force and insurance program

ConsVery conservative company paying their sales representatives a small salary compared to the other chemical industry representatives.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed a better training program.

Hard work, crappy benefits, but great work enviornment

    Delivery Driver (Former Employee)
    Austin, TX

ProsGet to work with great people.

ConsWork more than expected, makes you take lunch instead of working through, customers can be way too demanding for free delivery.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you deliver, make them pay for it.

    Great industry experience

    Process Engineer (Current Employee)

ProsGreat industry experience. PPG is focused on the safety of their employees.

ConsPay is on the low end. Management will ask you where you want your career to go but they do not follow through. It seems like they want you to be stuck in the same job for years.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your employees more.

Great learning experience for an entry-level chemist/engineer.

    Chemist (Former Employee)
    Sylmar, CA

ProsCombined R&D and manufacturing experience - they specifically hire new graduates looking for experience. Lots of repetitive work if you don't feel like thinking. Bosses are more than willing to train you if you ask.

ConsThey are firm that you probably won't be able to advance in the current position. You'll need to apply to another position in the same firm or after you gain the exp., move on. As long as you understand this, it will be a positive exp. Management is always stressed.
