    I worked at PPG

    Pros

This company has advancement opportunities within the US as well as worldwide. Fortune 100 company with a solid stock price.

    Cons

Very black and white in there views. No gray in there world. Must walk the corporate lifestyle and never step out of line. Free thinking doesn't get rewarded.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take the blinders off and see (at times) things are gray and not 100% black and white.

I have been working at PPG full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The best part of being a manager for PPG are the hours M-F 7 to 5PM. We have great benefits, and generous vacation hours each year. The company really has lots of advancement opportunities.

    Cons

First PPG paints in not a typical retail store, Contractors come in each day and complain about pricing, threatening to buy paint from SW. Also most stores are short staffed. I'm currently working six days a week with only one part time employee. Expect to bend over front and backwards for the customer. Its all about competition between us and SW. We have sales reap who are lazy and won't put pricing in the system.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the great work

I worked at PPG full-time for less than a year

    Pros

PPG offered a great office environment in the small office where I worked. There was a team feel and managers cared about people.

    Cons

The company doesn't really understand how to go to business with major retailers. There was a lot of pressure from the Pittsburgh based management in directions that made no sense. This prevented the account team from really growing the account and growing solid relationships with the customer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Install management at the top that understand mass retail and how to position PPG as the industry leader at all retail accounts.

    Pros

Easy job. Training Lowe's associates on PPG/Olympic Pains and Stains. Selling and mixing paint for Lowe's customers.

    Cons

Low pay, Olympic is secondary paint brand behind Valspar. Store management pro Valspar.

I have been working at PPG

    Pros

They have decent benefits, not the best I've had, but not the worst either. The pay is pretty good and they offer annual bonus incentives.

    Cons

The worst part about working here is the 10 minute walk from the parking lot to the building, seriously a third of a mile walk. It's not bad during the summer, but the winters in Cleveland are brutal and that walk in the snow is the best way to ruin an entire day. Majority of the people have worked here 30-40 years. If your just out of college no one will take you seriously. As far as training, it's horrible. It doesn't exist. There is no room for new hires in this office. They literally have three people crammed into offices big enough for one person.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get more involved in day to day processes. Come up with a standardized training procedure.

    Pros

Company does a good job of hiring people that fit within the culture.
Global company, if you want to move around there are opportunities

    Cons

Say one thing and do another
    Salary is below other manufacturers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you're not going to do something, don't try to BS us. We're all adults we can deal with the bad news, being misleading about it is childish.

I worked at PPG full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Pay is average. Company is worldwide. Benefits are good. Conservative management and solid finances. Lots of opportunities within the company at multiple locations.

    Cons

At my location the staffing was too lean. I get this impression across the company. Management tries to keep costs low with minimal head count, which is a great idea, but in reality it makes for poor performance and high stress for the employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do a better job integrating acquisitions. Have more central resources available for your sites to confer with if you're not going to invest in local resources.

I worked at PPG full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great people, good training, excellent products, room for advancement if you're self motivated.

    Cons

Below average pay, rarely promote store personnel, employees are looked at as a number not a human being, stuffy/blah corporate culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Emphasize the importance of a "mentor" to help employees navigate their careers.
