I worked at PPG full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Solid company positioned well in its industry with a strong financial strategy
    - International reach provides opportunities for experience outside your current role
    - Attentive to young professionals, frequent networking events with upper management
    - Numerous opportunities for operational improvement if you have an independent drive
    - Nearly-full compensation for graduate degree programs

    Cons

    - Low pay relative to industrial / regional peers
    - Career growth limited to retirement-based openings and re-organizations
    - "It's not when you show up at the office, it's how late you stay."
    - Outside of Sales, most roles trend towards business-as-usual monotony

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

With a lopsided workforce, much more attention should be paid to the young "stars" before they leave for greener pastures.

I have been working at PPG full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    Large secure company.
They took over family run business that wasn't surviving. No one lost their jobs.

    Cons

Large corporate business, it takes time to adjust. Set in their way of thinking. Not open to new ideas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider that each market is different. Should think outside the box.

    Pros

Very good managers at the store level. Good hours, no nights.

    Cons

It's a physical job with a lot of heavy lifting. I enjoyed that, but it might be too much for some people.

I worked at PPG full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place to work. The people are fun and easy going. Its a great place to interact with contractors.

    Cons

The pay is not what it used to be. Yeah, the benefits are good, but the hours were stingy and the pay was better when they had a commission pay. They do not hire from within the company so don't look for promotion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to hourly concerns and look within the company to promote instead of going to Sherwin-Williams to fill internal positions.

I have been working at PPG full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Training is great, very dedicated staff. The benefits are really good as well, and the career opportunities are very much out there, IF you are willing to relocate.

    Cons

It used to be a great place to work. All the people involved were more like family, but then "Corporate" decides to move everything to Pittsburgh and cut out everyone that has been here for an average of 20 years. Now, they are growing to fast with acquisitions and don't have anyone in place that knows what they are really doing. The compensation is not the best either. They usually tend to be on the lower end of the market and you can only increase a certain percentage of your current base with any promotions, no matter the size of the job.

I have been working at PPG full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Going out on deliveries, time really goes fast.

    Cons

Pressure on length of trip, they expect the time on the GPS without taking in consideration traffic, unloading time, waiting for costumers sometimes, and GPS giving wrong coordinates sometimes. Additionally low salary based on age, started at $8.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Appreciate more the employees

    I worked at PPG

    Pros

This company has advancement opportunities within the US as well as worldwide. Fortune 100 company with a solid stock price.

    Cons

Very black and white in there views. No gray in there world. Must walk the corporate lifestyle and never step out of line. Free thinking doesn't get rewarded.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take the blinders off and see (at times) things are gray and not 100% black and white.

I have been working at PPG full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The best part of being a manager for PPG are the hours M-F 7 to 5PM. We have great benefits, and generous vacation hours each year. The company really has lots of advancement opportunities.

    Cons

First PPG paints in not a typical retail store, Contractors come in each day and complain about pricing, threatening to buy paint from SW. Also most stores are short staffed. I'm currently working six days a week with only one part time employee. Expect to bend over front and backwards for the customer. Its all about competition between us and SW. We have sales reap who are lazy and won't put pricing in the system.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the great work
