Really good company working toward becoming an excellent company

Market & Regulatory Policy Manager (Current Employee)
    Allentown, PA

ProsMany career fields within the company, competitive salaries, bonuses, and pretty darn good benefits.

ConsCommunications lacking in many instances, ties to the old command and control environment still linger, hiring process not completely transparent yet.

Advice to Senior ManagementMore timely communications with employees regarding all aspects of the company would be beneficial. Move a little faster toward embracing the ideas and culture that will be needed to hire and retain the younger generation enetering the workforce now- the baby boomers, while important and have the knowledge base at this time, are on their way out. Hire new people earlier to ensure smoother transitions and greater knowledge transfer.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Allentown, PA

    ProsBenefits
    friendly coworkers
annual review process (annoying to complete but gave excellent feedback on my performance)
easy commute from anywhere in the Lehigh Valley

ConsAllentown. I wouldn't have left if the company had been located closer to Philadelphia or New York City. I felt safe during the day - coming and going to my car or going out for lunch, but the area didn't have enough to offer.

Advice to Senior ManagementWork on hiring and keeping young talent. Trips to PPL Park or maybe even a company organized trip to New York.

Very satisfied for the last 23 of 31 years

    Nujclear Electrical Designer (Former Employee)
    Allentown, PA

ProsFrom 1981 till I retired in 2003 PPL, Nuclear, was the place to work. Money was good in drafting and your work was appreciated

ConsTurbulent times after I retired with medical costs going thru the ceiling. Only in the very begining of my career did I contribute to medical insurance. No cost medical cost was the talk from the management rep explained that there was no cost to the retiree, just look at the past. Bull I pay $370+ per month. Cheap by all standards but unexpected

Advice to Senior ManagementBring back the little things to show employees that you appreciate the work done each department. Reinstate the act of giving the small gifts when schedules are met.

Allow employees to have a voice.

    Happily Retired (Former Employee)
    Allentown, PA

ProsPPL paid above average wages and great benfits.

ConsPPL, in recent years, seemed to regrad its employees as throw-aways. Management seldom provided feedback for jobs well-done. Rather they focued on the negative. New managers from outside the company did not know the culture of the current employees, and failed to care about the years of serivce of the employees of them legacy companies.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep focusing on generation and wholesalre markets. Electric Utilties is nothing more than an annoyance in ttoday's marketplace. Please listed to what emplyees have to say and allow them to have an opinion.
