    Pros

I enjoy everyone that I work with not only in my office but my division as well. I like the fact that I am not micro managed.

    Cons

There is lack of training for all positions

    Advice to Management

They should have a designated trainer who can train on all administrative duties.

I have been working at PS Business Parks full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You can come and go as you please, just say you're on the property or showing space, no one will ever know the difference. You can pretty much dress however you want, no real dress code. Free lunch on occasion.

    Cons

Upper management is so oblivious as to what goes on in each office. The offices are run based on favoritism, if you're well liked, you're totally in, but if you don't play their games, they will put you through living Hell. No one can be trusted, the gossip spreads like wild fire! I've heard that all divisions company wide are run this way, but they say the So Cal Division is the worst to work in! I can't imagine anything being worse than where I am right now, so I guess I should be thankful!

    Advice to Management

Keep a close eye on management at all levels, they're not who you think they are and steal from you left and right.

I have been working at PS Business Parks full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

If you learn how to play the game an employee can pretty much come and go as they please.

    Cons

Hard work at this company goes unappreciated. If you have the slightest amount of self-respect for yourself then this is not the place to work. Also be very leery of the Human Resources Dept., very questionable behavior.

    Advice to Management

Look very closely as to who you put your trust in to manage others. More times than not the Managers at this company are very demoralizing, and demotivating.

    Pros

Small everyone knows your name, you're not just a number. You're not micro-managed, its not a structured military environment.

    Cons

Company runs very lean, a lot of work for the pay. No real one-on-one training. No room for advancement if you don't have a degree. Company doesn't allow for you to be a creative person. You're asked if you have an opinion, but they really don't want to know what your opinions are.

    Advice to Management

Treat the employees that do not have a degree, like they would, the people that do have a degree. Everyone has a role to play, and they're role is just as important.

    Pros

    Good benefits and free soda

    Cons

To begin, you will receive little to no training and very little help because the other employees are so busy with their own work. You will be reprimanded and ridiculed in front of others at the weekly meeting. In addition, leadership will talk badly about employees in front of the office staff. This poor leadership has resulted in an overall organizational climate of mistrust and an "every man for himself" attitude. Lots of finger-pointing Unfortunately, the employees are under constant stress wondering if they will be the next target. The company operates lean so you are expected to produce reports and conduct business using equipment that is outdated and in a state of disrepair. No matter how busy you are, you will also be required to produce a list of all of the tasks that you have completed each day and forward it daily to the Vice President so she will know exactly what you're doing each day. Turnover is high and I have seen more than 1 employee in tears. More than a few have indicated that if something better came along, they'd be gone.

    Advice to Management

With the high turnover rate, there is obviously a problem. Understand that negative leadership behavior results in a significant negative impact to the organization's bottom line. It's pretty obvious where the problem lies.

    Pros

The stability of upper management and of the company, small company feel, growth opportunities. The home office created a new position for learning and development at the end of 2013, and there has been an increase in training classes and development tools. You do need at minimun a bachelors degree for management positions, but that is a common standard now for larger companies. The top executives are very friendly and personable, and make a point to talk to each employee when visiting offices around the country. There are also many long term employees that are available to assist new employees.

    Cons

It would be nice if there were education assistance opportunities in the benefits package.

    Advice to Management

Since there are many existing employees without degrees, it would be great if there were financial assistance available for college courses.

  11. Strong public REIT offers long-term careers

I have been working at PS Business Parks full-time

    Pros

PS Business Parks is a very stable company. For a company of this size and presence it feels like a small company. For example, employees on the property management and leasing level have exposure to the executive level. Time off and benefits are comparable to most larger corporations. Work and personal life balance are both understood and promoted. Hard work and success will result in being noticed by management and executives and ultimately, upward mobility and potentially a long-term career.

    Cons

Often times new employees are required to hit the ground running. New hire training is improving however many functions of each job are only learned by trial by error. Most functions of each job are performance based and often times include high pressure to perform.
