    Solutions Marketing Department

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGreat colleagues, awesome team to work with daily - including internal clients and external agencies. I was a part of the team when the department was young and growing and it was exciting to be a part of that effort for several years. Have made a lot of lifelong friends and connections. PG&E is also really willing to invest in your professional growth/development with classes/seminars.

ConsLimited opportunity for growth - already top heavy in the management arena for the marketing department specifically
New management came on board in late 2012 and the atmosphere/culture became a lot less enjoyable
Too many politics - both internally and with the regulatory entities - it prevents work from getting done and progress from being made

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to do better at listening to your employees and ACT upon what they are telling you in how things can be improved. There is a lot of 'acknowledgement' of the problems but no action to truly fix it. Lots of great talent has been lost and without implementing some changes, more will likely go too.

Great people, Culture needs big time updates

Program Manager (Current Employee) San Francisco, CA

ProsSuper smart and friendly people, great growth opportunities, great leadership

ConsThe SF PG&E offices haven't updated the dress code since the 80’s.

Advice to Senior ManagementUpdate our dress code Its time! Dressy casual (Jeans dressed up) has arrived and works for literally every other successful company that surrounds us in San Francisco. Walking around the SF offices feels entirely old and stuffy! And it impacts the energy. An updated look will not only reenergize people but will attract a younger generation of employees.

    Impressive moves in IT

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe current CIO is taken this company from the dark ages into the present. She has quite a task. She is moving the company on all fronts - hardware, software, and governance. Overall leadership team is great - but is starting to see troubling turn-over . . . which makes one wonder the near future of the IT function.
Excellent benefits - decent work-life balance.

ConsThe battle for dominance between IT and Business still exists. Business is still old school - with a tremendous amount of mis-trust, which creates a political environment that is sometimes hard to swallow. Promotion's are rarely merit - based, with incompetence rising faster to the top then competence. Director's are semi-gods, whether they perform or not. Lagging salaries as compared to other companies, and real life career development/chances for internal promotion - are minimal.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe company needs to drastically improve its HR function. This has been a longstanding issue - that both insiders and outsiders are aware off. HR still has the old school mentalities that outside is better than inside. Executive Management needs to change its culture for looking to the outside to fix its problems, and look at the wonderful talent base the enterprise has. Talent is leaving due to politics, lack of internal appreciation, internal promotion, and/or lagging compensation. In short - stop looking outside to fix internal problems - look inside

Values employees, overall a good place to work

Senior Project Manager (Current Employee) San Francisco, CA

ProsCompany culture is friendly, respectful with safety at the top of the company values. Learning and work life balance is encouraged and supported. The company is generous to the community and is considered a leader in environmental initiatives.

ConsToo many processes, management layers and politics. Due to the regulated nature of the utility industry, the company is compliance driven which inhibits innovation. Creative talent and technology frontrunners will find this company running at a "slow and sure" pace. Project or products take a very long time to get approved because the company is highly scrutinized by the public.

Advice to Senior ManagementHelp new hires navigate through the politics and gain access to tribal knowledge so they can succeed in their jobs and help the company achieve its goals.

    Director's Assistant

Director's Assistant (Current Employee) San Francisco, CA

ProsWhat I like the most working for PG&E are their benefit programs, pension plans, tuition reimbursement program, and as well provide a child center (using lottery system) for the employees. Most of the employees are very family oriented and friendly, they don't hesitate to tranfer knowledge. They have 24/7 IT support. They concern with your healty and safety at work.

ConsThey needs do more work in their Talent Connect. Seems like the process is very slow.

Lot of opportunities! Great benefits!! Right time to join the company

Manager (Current Employee) San Francisco, CA

ProsOpportunities in many functional areas including rotational opportunities. Opportunities to work on many emerging areas such as Solar Power, SmartGrid, Environmental Protection (GHG/cap and trade) just to name a few. New leaderships attracting industry leaders. Great people to work with.

ConsReactive rather than pro-active because of the current regulatory environment. Negative media coverage can be demoralizing.
