    Pros

If you are skilled at your work you'll have no problem here and you'll make lots of find similarly qualified folks.

    Cons

This is not really a Con, just the other side of the coin ... PG&e is a big established organization and in these types of organizations things don't happen quickly.

  2. Ecellent organization to be part of. Professionally managed and lots of talented people.

    Pros

Competetive compensation and excellent benefits (medical, dental, pension for union guys, and 401K matching) Concerns are heard and excellence is rewarded. Safety is a top priority

    Cons

Large company = red tape. Often times the bureaucracy can interfere with productivity, but its generally more of a frustration and an inconvenience than a real problem.

    Advice to Management

More team building for Utility workers. For those of us on a normal crew, it would be nice to have more trips, public outreach, or sponsored events to boost morale

    Pros

    - Great pay and benefits
    - Management is open to hearing employees concerns

    Cons

    - It's a big company, so change can be cumbersome at times
    - Still getting up to speed with some of the technology available to the industry

    Pros

Great salary, work from home, flexible hours.

    Cons

Disadvantage when it comes to training when you are a contractor. You are not treated as an equal to your coworker or by your supervisors when you are a contractor.

    Advice to Management

Give the same training if expecting the same results and regardless if you are a contractor or employee, everyone deserves respect and fairness.

PG&E has given me the opportunity to take on challenging projects and see the direct impact it has on the community.

    Pros

All kinds of training, tuition reimbursements, fellowships, rotational assignments and more to further advance your career.

    Cons

The frequency with which non-core work falls in the laps of many groups makes it very difficult to deliver, especially when budgets are tight.

    Advice to Management

Continue to revisit roles and responsibilities of each group and clearly define the boundaries to avoid confusion.

    Pros

    - Opportunities to do interesting work, meet other industry professionals and do many things.

    Cons

    - Little work life balance, lack of resources, working vacations
    - PG&E insists on people working downtown or in San Ramon on a regular basis - which adds many hours to the day, is not efficient or effective, and adds to potential safety issues. (those areas are not affordable for real estate - so whats the point).
    - Directors are detached and don't have management or people skills - but think they do.

    Advice to Management

    - Ratepayers pay loads extra for all the unnecessary and inefficient travel requirements (hotels, meals, air) - require directors to do skip level meetings and become involved in the business.

    Pros

Decent Benefits Compared to Most Companies; Newly Hired Less Benefits Than Older Employees

    Cons

    Capricious Management, Employees, and Customers

    Advice to Management

Do More "Soft Skills" Training for All; Make New Hires Have Better Benefits As Older; No "Two Teir"

I have been working at Pacific Gas and Electric as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Friendly work environment
Great location and pretty schedule with a decent pay rate.

    Cons

Too much micro managing at times with poor strategic planning
Its feels like a non profit instead of a large corporation

    Advice to Management

Management needs to know what to do with staff with respect to talent and skills.
You have a lot of talent people doing work that is beneath them.
