    Pros

Some of the best people work for this company. PG&E believes in growing its employees and believes in compensating them accordingly. Very good benefits and my commute from the East Bay is awesome.

    Cons

Communication between the contracting agency and the department I was hired in seeded a little lacking. I was told one start date, but started sooner and had to end a contract I was on early. Wasn't a big deal, but not an ideal situation either.

    Pros

Great place to work with many opportunities to branch off in different directions should you so choose. Being part of the ESC union.

    Cons

Difficult to promote change sometimes due to the corporate hierarchy. Being part of the ESC union has both pros and cons.

    Pros

Great management team that cares about employees and their development. Managed organization, your value to the customers is obvious and meaningful.

    Cons

Big company that you can get lost in, not very cutting edge with technology and innovation. A lot of process that is needed for their industry.

    Advice to Management

Try to find new methods to build out innovative technology that can break through some of the processes that are used for production.

I worked at Pacific Gas and Electric full-time

    Pros

Great company to work for. Awesome people (co-workers), still provide great benefits and incentives compared to others. Provides tuition reimbursement. Still have a little of the good old culture that I got to know.

    Cons

Constant changes, constant changes, constant changes, constant changes, constant changes, constant changes, constant changes, constant changes, constant changes and constant changes.

    Advice to Management

In order to move forward and better the business process one need to stop going around in circle.
In my short time with the company I have seen at least one re-org per year of my service. How can one move forward when a stop is being placed and turning it back around to do the same thing over again!
Move forward and if needed do some tweaks along the way.....not turning it back around

    Pros

The group I worked with was defining itself as we went along. Totally felt like being part of a startup. Incredible delta, and amazing people to gain the respect of. Thoroughly enjoyed myself.

    Cons

Interfacing with outside groups brought in the reality of this being like the military, with old and well-working systems that required learning about, from the relationships to the methodologies.

    Advice to Management

Be more aware of reports being generated by the lower echelon: there's a lot of value in them that management says they need, but don't really have access to.

    Pros

Competetive compensation and excellent benefits (medical, dental, pension for union guys, and 401K matching) Concerns are heard and excellence is rewarded. Safety is a top priority

    Cons

Large company = red tape. Often times the bureaucracy can interfere with productivity, but its generally more of a frustration and an inconvenience than a real problem.

    Advice to Management

More team building for Utility workers. For those of us on a normal crew, it would be nice to have more trips, public outreach, or sponsored events to boost morale

    Pros

    - extremely understanding and supportive of cross function career movements
    - great talent
    - everyone is extremely friendly and helpful
    - surprisingly young crowd of employees (especially on the corporate side)
    - fascinating industry (energy generation, renewables, etc)

    Cons

    - normal issues you see in a large corporation
    - regulated company so there's little growth opportunities
    - constant change and process improvements

    Pros

Full-time employees at PG&E are EXTREMELY willing to help you with anything you need. They treat you with a ton of respect and never did I feel like an intern. The company also really wants its interns to explore what they're interested. If you want to see gas operations, they'll take you to some gas compression/distribution/whatever station. You want to see hydro, they'll take you to see a hydro plant. You want to know more about a particular sector at PG&E? They'll get you a meeting with someone in the department. Need help with excel or programming for you internship? There's workshops for that that you can attend.

Being an intern at PG&E is really really great. You learn A LOT about the energy industry and they try to maximize you exposure so you know even more. I had a really great experience there and it's nice to work with people who love their job.

    Cons

There can be a lot of inefficiencies when you're working in the energy industry - so this isn't really PG&E specific. Also, the energy industry usually isn't at the forefront of technology and you'd be surprised how outdated some of their systems are. But again, this is just the way it goes in the industry, which in some ways can be good because it means there's a lot of room for improvement and you can work on making those.

    Advice to Management

You're doing great! I really felt like family working in the office and have positive experiences with everyone I worked with.
