    Pros

Good mix of experience levels. Senior level staff very willing to work to help new staff learn.
Project lead managed work level and schedule very well.

    Cons

As a contractor, my interaction with business leaders was limited. I felt that I could have contributed more, but since I was not a company employee, my range of work was too focused.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Team management changed during the time I worked there. Not communicated well to contract staff members.

    Pros

Great pay, and benefits.Lots of opportunity.

    Cons

Some people working there make a sport of causing others trouble, these people are usually well connected, and for some reason tend to get away with it.Some people are treated better then others because of this.People who just want to do their job, without the drama, fall victim to these groups of people. I guess this occurs everywhere, but it shouldn't.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't make decisions based on rumors. Some people show up to work, and others to play games, with others careers.Find out what is really going, on without bias, from the rumor mill, before taking a persons career from them.

    Pros

Working for PG&E has been a great exp for me! I've learned a lot of new skills in Distribution Operations that I never had before. Management has always been great with me. I can't speak for other departments, but the people I've worked with in Distribution Ops are great people and very helpful!

    -Great Co-workers and Management
    -Great Pay
    -Great Benefits

    Cons

I could only think of two cons to be honest:

    - The job can become very stressful and repetitive while working long hours and sometimes on-call.

    - Although the company is very large, the locations you are able to work in Ops is very limited and not in the most desirable locations.

That being said, you able to move from department to department in PG&E to keep your work life interesting and find better locations to work. This does however require you to have some seniority in the union, which may take some time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you are doing. Great Job!

The challenges of the business put an increased requisition load on all recruiters that the company finds it hard to plan for.

    Pros

GREAT work life balance, competitive salary for the responsibilities and expectations. People are generally nice and non-competitive. Lots of room for internal mobility if a role doesn't work out or if you just are not competent for a job, there's another one around the corner.

The company gets a lot of bad wrap in the media and from a lot of San Franciscans due to the socialist views of many SF residents and from the San Bruno explosion, but from the inside, I think management and the folks who make up the work force are not evil or intentionally mismanaging. There is a lot of care from the workforce.

    Cons

The culture is SLOW and little visible ACTION takes place. It is a very meeting driven, consensus oriented culture, which is great, but lack of initiative and decision making by those who have Manager/Director titles leads to INACTION and just a lot of wasted time in meetings. Being in management = making decision and taking accountability.

Though internal mobility is great for growth, too many employees move around due to limited growth w/in their current dept or because the job isn't working out. Thus, high rates in job transfers leads to tasks being left undone and/or employee incompetency due to inadequate knowledge to perform. The greater concern is that the true root of the high mobility rate is never realized due to people moving to get an easy promotion or because they suck at their job; sometimes it's more effective to terminate someone due to poor performance rather than make it someone else's problem.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hold everyone accountable, management and non-management employees. If employees are held more accountable, then the business results will help with renewing a positive image for the company when incompetency declines.

    Pros

The benefits are amazing! You get a pension, matching 401k, 80 hrs a year of sick pay and much more. I have PPO medical, dental and vision and only $56 a month. Everyone I have met is so nice and easy to work with. There is also lots of room to grow and move around within the company if you so desired.

    Cons

Lots of work. I have worked late many nights and i have been here less than a year. But this is relative to who your director is and what your director wants from you.
