Current Employee – been working at Pacific Sunwear full-time for more than a year
Pros – Hands on experience where you are able to make decisions and drive your own business
Cons – Extremely confusing communication resulting in wasted time, frustration, and taking away from running the business. Great ideas, but poor implementation.
Advice to Senior Management – Complete one concept through fruition, stop trying to reengineer the same thing over and over without follow through.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Current Employee – been working at Pacific Sunwear part-time for more than a year
Pros – Employee discounts, Great customer interaction and Nice Coworkers.
Cons – Upper Management, Pay, Call-ins, Company Goals, and many more.
Advice to Senior Management – Stop worrying about the current trends. You're not Express or Armani Exchange. The only similarity PacSun has with them is the prices of clothing. Lower your prices, get back to your roots and you will get business. In my district two extremely good managers were let go because the store standards are ridiculously high and they failed to meet them. It's hard when there's two days of shipment (4 boxes per hour company standard? Really? I would like to see a DM or an RM pull that one off), a promo update every wednesday and markdowns. That is not including a floorset change every month and window updates that require actual construction and given to the managers to build. You expect too much from teir 1/ high volume stores when we only get 190 hours on a good week. It is utterly ridiculous that we are expected to meet such outstanding goals in order to maintain a job and hope for a raise, maybe, a few years down the road. My suggestion is to close some stores that make very little money, send those employees to a high traffic store and profit. Stop looking to American Eagle and other unrelated stores for your managers and maybe take some time to have your DM meet with the associates to see how they feel about the stores without getting penalized for having opposing views to the company. Associates make the sales, therefore they are by far the most important aspect of the company. Take a step back and really look at what happened to Tom Moore's dream. You're on Fox Business' list for 10 brands that will go bankrupt in 2013. It's sad and disappointing to see my dream job turn into a nightmare that I can't seem to escape. I am in the midst of getting a new job but I would be genuinely happy if PacSun could turn it around. I believe that it may be too late now though.

Current Employee – been working at Pacific Sunwear full-time for more than a year
Pros – Most of the product was quality. The discount was decent too.
Flexibility in merchandising and staffing requirements. (could have simply been lack of direction, depends how you look at it) The company believed strongly in entrepreneurship.
Decent music to listen to.
Fair Benefits for full-time employees.
Team oriented environment. Ability to see your store's contribution to and ranking within the company creating a unique drive for results.
Stores within district were well connected and supportive. (This could obviously vary by district)
Encouraged building lasting relationships with customers. PacSun is all about the regulars. (I say regulars because they have no idea who their demo is)
Great technical support for stores.
BEST COWORKERS EVER. Literally some of the best times of my life.
Cons – ZERO RECOURSES.
-Inconsistent shipments that did not align with sell through. The DC would occasionally experience "low inventory levels".. The company was simply out of clothes. Back-room literally consumed with empty fixtures.
-Additional payroll was next to none. MKDS, visuals, training, you name it were all funded from hours generated by volume leaving even associates pulled in 20 directions at once.
-Stores are left to decay. maintenance requests cancelled/ignored. Ex. My store went without AC for two months. Can you imagine a 90 degree store? Neighbor store went without music for almost a month. The list goes on.
The paperwork, emails, forms and CC's were endless.
DM's were in way over their heads. Visits happened sometimes quarterly and reach-outs were constantly ignored.
Advice to Senior Management – You must spend money (wisely) to make money. Throwing down some iPads or trendy plywood fixtures will not fix the fact that stores and teams can barely keep their heads above water. Spend some money on true employee development, not just 'product knowledge'. Acknowledge ALL of your stores and restructure incentives so that everyone has a chance at the top, not just high-volume stores.

Former Employee – worked at Pacific Sunwear part-time for more than a year
Pros – - Great Discount on Merchandise
- Young Atmosphere
- Teaches you how to sell and prepares you for future sales
- Get to meet a lot of interesting people
Cons – - Low Pay
- District Management was very poor and unresponsive
- The Low Pay makes most people not motivated
- No room to move up
Advice to Senior Management – Give Sales Associates the ability to move up in the company and actually perform reviews on time.

Former Employee – worked at Pacific Sunwear part-time for less than a year
Pros – Good to learn the basics of retail marketing

Former Employee – worked at Pacific Sunwear full-time for more than a year
Pros – PAC has a pretty good discount on its product in stores. The work-life balance I experienced was pretty decent as well.
Cons – Too many arrogant leaders at the top. A leader on the merchandising team while I was there wouldn't even talk to me directly. He directed my manager just to give me direction, even while I was right there next to him. Buyers are clique-ish and not very inclusive. Training and the on-boarding was non-existent.
Advice to Senior Management – Care more about people "under" you and listen better.
