    Pros

Palm is at a challenging crossroads right now and are in a transitional period - much like I heard Apple was in the mid-90's. They have a chance to do something significant, but whatever that significant thing is it has to have the "wow" factor or Palm will be just another smartphone vendor. Being at Palm and being involved in the future products is exciting. Having the opportunity to be part of the next great "wow" product is something to be proud of. You hear a lot of doom and gloom from the press but there is some great talent at Palm that is working hard to hit the next product out of the park. The market for smartphones is huge so Palm does not need huge market share to be very successful. They need to focus on a specific market and deliver a great experience for that market - which I think management is doing.

    Cons

Hearing the negative press continually gets old after awhile. There is some doom and gloom in the company and Palm continues to see employees leave for other companies - some for startups, some for the Apples/Googles in the valley. No matter how much Management does the rah-rah thing, there still is a sense of foreboding across the company. When you hear about so-and-so leaving it causes a little jealousy - a sense that they went to something better - to a company that is "cool". With the challenging situation Palm is in, management is watching expenses closely. I can understand this, but you start to feel like you are being nickel and dimed to death. You also feel that you are doing your part to save $$ but you see "everyone else" not making the same sacrifices. This inequity can cause resentment.

    Advice to Management

Continue to keep the company focused on the next "wow" product. Continue to focus reducing expenses but make sure everyone feels the pain.

    Pros

The people are great. Smart and friendly. The technology is cool. You can be proud of what you do. Mobile matters and doing it well is what Palm is all about.

    Cons

HP acquisition is a net benefit for Palm, but has introduced a "big company" feel that some people don't like. Is a company in constatnt fight to stay relevant in a highly competitive industry with dominant established players.

    Pros

They have so far shown that they are willing to innovate and make competitive products. They are not just sitting still. There's a sense of direction (more so than most other companies), and they are move forward (for better or for worse).

    Cons

It's not too different from other companies i.e. there are also some big egos around the place (high and low). This makes it difficult to get real work done sometimes.

    Advice to Management

Learn about the strengths and weaknesses of your employees, and put their strengths to use. Too often, decisions are influenced by who talks the most, not necessarily who makes the most sense.
