Pros – I get to work closely with my managers and have been able to grow significantly.

Cons – Working in a large company, it's hard to get the attention of HR. Decisions are made slowly, information is kept secret, and the company is constantly being reorganized. THe company is very risk averse.

Advice to Senior Management – Be open and honest with employees about changes in the company.

Pros – One of the biggest 3PLs
An excellent WW network.
There are some very talented professionals.
You can and must be self suffcient.
Excellent e-education.

Cons – You will grow thanks to relationships, no merits.
You have to push the people to do what is required.
Company works in silos.
If the customer is not big, no body cares.

Advice to Senior Management – A clear career path and education must be put in place

Pros – The people are all in the same crazy boat together. For this reason they make the best of it and are very friendly towards each other.

Cons – The hours are very long in some departments and while they pay overtime, the amount of work you are expected to complete is really not worth it sometimes.

Advice to Senior Management – Recognize the amount of time certain employees are sacrificing on a regular basis to make things run smoothly and compensate those people what they deserve.

Cons – Salaries are not always equal to market value

Advice to Senior Management – Certain managers are good at delegating, but do not put in their fair share of the work

Pros – Multinational, multicultural, fast paced frequently innovative.

Cons – Instability in top management for North American operations for 9 years (4 presidents in that time - 3 corporate headquarters moves). Swiss centered management.

Advice to Senior Management – Stability in management an direction.

Pros – Excellent benefits and great staff to work with.

Cons – Panalpina has loss direction, hiring to many ex-pats to run an North American company. Many of the have no idea of some the products and maybe care less about the many employees that work there. Ex-patroits have no skin on the game, they are here for a few years and leave for a next assignment

Advice to Senior Management – Listen to your staff and ease off the ex-patroits working here.

Cons – Johari window -- huge blind spots

Advice to Senior Management – Don't just give feedback -- try asking for feedback - and then listen to it.

Pros – Panalpina has a diverse workforce that comprises of multiple nationalities. It is a true multinational corporation and you get the feel of how such a huge company functions.

Cons – There are instances where working with such a diverse workforce because a nightmare as everybody's thinking is different and a lot of people don't respect each other's opinions and values.
