    Pros

The company is young, thriving, and has a lot of energy. Lots of cool people with talent across the board. Fun atmosphere and takes care of people with perks and food and guest talent that performs onsite!

    Cons

Most management is rather bad. There are a couple of good leaders, but for the most part, what management seems to care about is the bottom line. Lack of mentorship, lack of guidance, lack of true leadership from the senior levels.

    Advice to Management

Get your senior executives into leadership development plan.

    Pros

The teams at Pandora are incredibly nice, almost to a fault. Most people are right out of college and can be hyper sensitive to any type of comment. Email messages have to be sugar coated.

    Cons

No clear sense of direction. Pandora's competitors are in 150+ countries and it still has no clear roadmap for where it wants to be.

    Advice to Management

Stop being so overly cautious about growth and just do it!

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness,

    Pros

Pandora has a great product that people love. It's simple and it works fantastic. And it delivers a ubiquitous happiness through music. Users discover new bands, musicians and love listening all of the time.

    Cons

I thought that I was going to work for a bay area tech company that has an amazing software product that clients need and love. Unfortunately, Pandora is a broadcast radio company. It spends more of its time competing with Clear Channel and Record labels, than understanding technology and data. Pandora has so much potential with the amount of users. However, it has limited engineering support and therefore a very manual ad serving platform. Therefore, productivity and solutions (revenue) is limited because of limited support. Pandora has to pay attention to Clear Channel and the recording industry, but it really can disrupt the music industry, if they acted more like a bay area tech company.

    Advice to Management

Invest in engineers and a quality product team. Think internationally. Everyday that Pandora is not available in other countries, is another day people fall in love with Spotify, Songza, or whatever product they enjoy. Mergers and Acquisitions, if you can't hire the engineering support, go buy them.

    Pros

-culture was laid back and easy going -location in downtown Oakland -cool product

    Cons

-HR Dept. full of bad managers, poor leadership who were not interested in really solving problems -management has no idea what is going on at mid-level so there is lots of ineffciency and redundancy -misinformation constantly doled out -leadership was focused only on profit, not on people or career paths, ignored problems and never consulted senior managers about ways to improve service or product -management was absent, and when present allowed for culture of unprofessionalism -low-performing employees not reprimanded or terminated -we were told that we had a voice in changing company policy, but this never happened

    Advice to Management

The HR dept. is the face of your company, yet they are the most unpleasant department, do something about it! Work on messaging--what the CEO/CFO/COO say are the values of the company should be attainable to everyone, not just a select few. Get some Standard Operating Procedures on the books--then stick to them. There was a lot of wishy washy indifference from many higher-ups and a lot of inefficient processes and procedures that wasted time and created hideouts for low-performing employees.

    Pros

Get to work with a lot of music. Fun office. Some nice people

    Cons

Uppder management and the sales organization is completely unorganized. The company has no solid long-term vision and lacks in initiatives to get to profiitbility. Some of the maagement is just rude. They just want to be the cool company rather than be professions and have drive to get to profibility

    Advice to Management

Treat your staff with respect. it seems more like a boys club. You need to take actions and develop a focus and vision if you are ever to become profitable. Cut back on the needless spending and focus on hiring talented staff.

    Pros

    - I love the product. - It is easy to be proud of the company you work for. - Your work has meaning and impacts the joy of hundreds of thousands of listeners.

    Cons

    - No support from management. I went to my manager on two seperate occassions letting him know my concerns about the hours, and how a lot of hours were wasted redoing work. He told me to suck it up and try to be more like the other guy (who had no problem doing 9am-2am days several times a week). - Long hours - 60-70 hour weeks are average, 70+ in crunchtime. - Pay is crummy - salary sounds ok on paper, until you realize they pay you on a 40 hour/week scale, but expect you to do at least 60-70 hours per week.

    Advice to Management

Employees don't leave companies - they leave managers.

    Pros

    - Working for a company which makes such an amazing consumer product loved by everyone - Some cool/smart people

    Cons

    - Struggling with growth and feels understaffed in certain departments - Compensation and benefits pale in comparison to other bay area tech companies - No career trajectory in certain departments and promotions aren't always based on performance - Quality of leadership is inconsistent

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the number of unhappy employees and take the exit interviews seriously. There's a reason individuals can feel frustrated/unsettled/overwhelmed/underappreciated and that feedback should be considered so as to help correct the current culture course, cultivate loyalty, and continue building a sense of community among employees. Also consider making the interviews much more rigorous to ensure you're bringing in the best talent.
