    Really depends on your department

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsIn house concerts, casual dress code, beloved product, nice people

ConsWAY too much politics at the senior level; some departments have zero work life balance, incompetent people are allowed to remain for far too long

Advice to Senior ManagementReplace most of the old executive/senior staff

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Looks good on a resume

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsIt was interesting to learn about how Pandora works and they have an awesome space at their headquarters in Oakland. Every time I told someone where I worked, they were beside themselves and thought it was cool that I worked there, so it will look good on your resume.

ConsManagement needs management training, they don't know how to motivate, encourage, or "manage" their employees. It's very clicky, if you don't find someone you click with right away, you better hurry up or you won't last long.

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide management training for your managers. Get them all on the same page. Provide consistent and GOOD training at the beginning. Give employees CLEAR direction, not figure it out on your own, advice. Provide a team atmosphere. Once an employee is hired, hook them up with another person in that same position so they have a mentor to work with for their first 3-6 months.

Good company, but processes and management need help.

    Account Executive (Former Employee)

ProsCool culture, you definitely feel like you are part of something cool.

ConsReport after report after report.......tedious processes that take up so much time that getting a sale becomes deflated. Make a salesperson's job easier, not harder.....they will then do everything for the company aka generate massive revenue. Roadblock after roadblock takes the wind out of a salesperson's sails.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou are spread too thin! Insert another manager (a direct manager, not a manager of another team), or taper down your own workload to be able to focus more on your people.

Looks good on your resume.. that's about it

Client Services (Current Employee) Oakland, CA

Pros- Bands and singers come to play acoustic sets 2-3 times per week
    - People recognize the company you work for when you tell them
    - Good health coverage
    - PERGs (Pandora Employee Groups) - some fun ones out there... beer drinking perg

Cons- As the company has grown, the company culture that I imagine once existed is long gone
    - Issues with management across the board - micromanagement, giving new employees unrealistic expectations of potential growth opportunities, too much focus on small tasks vs. the career development of employees
    - Floors 6 and 7 are the newest floors. With that expansion, floors 15 and 16 are now overlooked in multiple ways
    - No compensation for commuting expenses. Considering the office is in Oakland, compensation of BART or a shuttle would be a plus
    - For a company that was founded on peoples love for music, there are too many people that have no interest in music

Advice to Senior ManagementThe role of a manager is to help their employees in any way they can when it comes to career development, learning, and growth. Managers here focus more on mundane day-to-day tasks and details instead of providing support for employees and better preparing their work force for the next step in their career. My advice to management? Do a complete overhaul of current management staff, management style, and responsibilities of a manager.

cool company, but not very inspiring.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsHip place to work. Free shows every week. Your friends will think you are cool working there.

ConsMost of people who work at Pandora are in Sales. And it shows. Not new innovation. New competition from Apple iRadio will really hurt the business.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest more in research and development.

It was good, but could have been better

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsOverall, it is a pleasant place to work. People are fairly laid back and the atmosphere can be fun at times.

ConsWhen upper management wasn't happy there was definitely a lot of tension in the office. Also, it is difficult to be promoted or move to other positions if you are not in the Oakland office. I found that morale was low for that reason. Also, not thrilled with the HR department, they are very pro-management and don't really seem to care much about non-management employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook to your present employees for promotion or to fill positions in other departments, they are a talented bunch.

Disconnected Senior Management team, clueless about what it means to work there

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Oakland, CA

ProsPandora is a company that's you're proud to work at because it's one of the most beloved consumer products of the last decade. There are a lot of smart people at Pandora that work hard toward common goals.

ConsPandora has a non-existant company culture. There are companies in the valley that make Pandora look rather pathetic on that front. As they've grown, it's likely that maintaining the culture was an afterthought. There is a general vibe of insecurity throughout the office. While senior management and the executive team are approachable, it is obvious that they are clueless as to what it means to be an employee there on a day-to-day basis. There is also a general sense of dysfunction due to "growing pains." The company hasn't scaled key departments in a functional way that serves employees in the the ways that they should, specifically HR. They've also made some bad, incompetent hires in key roles.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a closer look that your employee's faces and notice if they seem happy or not. Talk to employees at all levels. Invest in fixing the broken culture of the company
