Don't even think about working here

    Former Employee - Engineer
    Former Employee - Engineer

I worked at Panduit full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Suburban location, cafeteria with decent food, free parking. Average pay and benefits which have been systematically reduced over the course of last 7 years.

    Cons

Absolutely toxic work environment. Little chance for advancement unless you are the part of the inner circle. Being an engineer in this Company used to be something to be proud of, last 5 years were a living hell. Engineering is systematically being eliminated to make the Company look more attractive for sale. Bain consulting has recommended changes necessary for the company to achieve maximum profitability, unfortunately this involves laying off many people. Idea is to keep the overhead as low as possible so that the bottom line looks good when ready to sell. People left behind after layoffs are forced to pick up the extra work. In some cases complete departments were eliminated and work is being farmed out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Sell the Company ASAP!

I have been working at Panduit

    Pros

In its heyday over 10 years ago, it was an innovative place to work -- can not say that now.

    Cons

The engineering and R&D departments are being dismantled. Unable to keep up with product issues in the field. The company is eliminating overhead to make it appear more profitable so it can be sold. Bain & Company which is handling the latest reorganization is most likely going to put the company on the blocks. The process is commonly referred within the company as polishing a turd. Hopefully the new owners will rebuild -- or sell the assets and let it die peacefully.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start looking for new jobs -- Management is the first to be let go in any buy-out.

I have been working at Panduit full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Reasonable pay. Good vacation accrual policy. Flex time. Healthy profit sharing.

    Cons

Management tends to drive by mandate rather than lead by example. The unofficial policy is to treat all of the employees as if they are lazy, stupid, and dishonest for reasons only they know. One of the most closely guarded secrets in this facility is the pay scale. The management is short sighted in the "Lean in Everything" policy, they do not see the long range impact of some of todays short term cost saving actions. They will pay lip service to what employees tell them but will only listen to what they want to hear. The general environment between management and employees in this facility is too adversarial for true teamwork to take root. Many vary good employees have left this company to get away from this environment. People with many years of service are having their "position eliminated". many others fear for their jobs. All this in the name of Lean in Everything.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to take constructive criticism from employees as well as you expect them to take it from you. Talk to and treat your employees as valuable assets instead of tolerated liabilities.

    Glad I left

    I worked at Panduit

    Pros

If you live in the southwest burbs, the location is close to home. However, close to home doesn't matter when you're miserable at work.

    Cons

Too many to name, which is why I left.

I have been working at Panduit

    Pros

good location for south suburbanites, very clean offices, free parking

    Cons

toxic environment, some managers flat out lie to you, "let's get this done" has devolved to "watch out for yourself only", change can be good and helps us grow but constant change is just chaos, and good poeple continue to still be let go... enough with the layoffs already.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

let Bain give you the fair market price for the company as is or broken into pieces, i.e., the new business units, and sell it already.

I have been working at Panduit full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Clean building, that's about it. Excellent cafeteria food, very health conscious.

    Cons

Manufacturing engineering management that's in charge of the southern division is the definition of incompetence. Weak minded, afraid to make decisions to proceed for the future. Stuck in status quo. Push Republican conservative political views on the job; all cafeteria flat screens, 3 each,

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit, allow Panduit to hire real ME management instead of self believe Mfg engineer mgt. Manufacturing is not a gimmick or roll of the dice. You can't be safe or fearful of change or psycho babbling why every issue you didn't think of will not work. You must be bold, knowledgeable, educated, experienced, and flexible to change or adapt when required. Manufacturing methods 30 years old won't cut it just because you throw Lean at it. 5S, Kaizen blitzes, Fish bone analysis, Pareto analysis, is not a fix all.

I worked at Panduit full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

It was a job for the time I was there. There wasnt a whole lot of pros. Close to home.

    Cons

Laid people off before their retirement. didn't compensate well even when you went above and beyond your job. Just laid my Mom off after 15 years of service right before she is going in for surgery.

I have been working at Panduit full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    No pros to begin with.

    Cons

The company seems to harbour many people who are outcasts and rejects from other companies. Been here 5 years and nothing of strategic importance seems done. Frustration level is high. Tasks, processes are always in a mess and functions are disconcerted.

There's a lot of empty talk, virtually no transparency and lacks of communication. There are many people who has stayed in Panduit for many years and seems to be rather complacent at all times. Management is always, has always been on the wrong focus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The senior management and old timers should just quit and not hang on for the sake of hanging on.

    Pros

Very nice people (excluding many execs) , nice building (way out in the sticks though)

    Cons

All i can say is to read the other reviews here -- I ignored them but they are spot on. My mistake. This is the most dysfunctional place I've ever seen. And they are low-tech, not high-tech, as they will want you to believe. Execs rule by fear - ask about this. Believe what you read here.

I have been working at Panduit full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Secure and safe work place.
Climate controlled, but from a different area.

    Cons

    Not military/veteran friendly
a feeling of distrust with upper management
    Not very OSHA compliant

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

On the outside Panduit looks very appealing to many of the co-ops that they run through. As a culture, the mistrust and heir of distrust with upper management is at a all time high. Hiding the true cost that it take to make product from upper management seems to be a way of life for mid level managers. If you are a veteran of the military, you are treated as if you already have PTSD. It doesn't matter if you have never shown ant signs. You are a powder keg to them. Sadly it is that way across the whole company. Mid-level management has lost touch with the production people, the same people that can make you look like a superstar. The feeling of all for none is starting to take hold. Lastly, once the family patriarch is gone this company will be divided up and sold off. Remember, its your choice......I work to live, not live to work.
