I have been working at Panera Bread part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Really have yet to find a pro. The pay is minimum wage the managers are the only one's in the store working 40 to 60 hours per week. They schedule the employees like they are just waiting in the parking lot for the busy times of the day. So if your not in high school you should look else where for a job.

    Cons

The place serves frozen food the whole menu from the bread to the soups, The only thing that is fresh at Panera is the vegetables placed in the sandwiches and salads. As far as work conditions the whole staff is part time and they send people home before their shift ends to balance the hours. No one can make any money working here and not knowing if you will finish your shift or get called before it starts to not come in. The only staff that they can hold on to is young kids from high school and they do not care what is being served or how clean the plates and utensils are. I would always now order everything to go. For a bread company the stores don't even have a pound of flour. It all comes out of the freezers. The store I am at does not have a stove or a pot .

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Frozen food and a lack quality control should not be happening at a place that charges 9.00 for a Steak and cheese with very little steak and not much cheese.

    I worked at Panera Bread

    Pros

    Free Beverages during a shift.
    Pretty good discount.
Some good co-workers to build lasting friendships with.

    Cons

    Incompetent, rude, lazy managers
Schedule was never posted on time.
    Extremely poor scheduling.
Never enough associates scheduled to work a shift, yet tons of associates hired.
    Very poor pay.
    Poor growth oprotunity.
    Horribly inconsitant hours.
Called into work every scheduled day off.
Too many young and lazy associates hired.
    Too many managers.
You never get any requested days off even if it's for an emergency.
Work people when they are injured, or ill.
Management takes the job WAAAAAAY too seriously. ( It's a sandwich joint for crying out loud.)
Bread bashes/ meetings every two weeks. ( Hard to attend a mandatory meeting if you have a second job, or family who needs your help.)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put a schedule out on time!!! Schedule enough people per shift so one person doesn't have to take on a million back breaking tasks, or call associates in on their days off. Treat your employees with respect. Give your employees a requested day off once in a while. Pay associates better. DON'T HIRE SO MANY MANAGERS FOR ONE LOCATION!!!! Don't curse or yell at your employees. Give employees a compliment every once in a while. Stop it with the rediculous bread bash meetings. People do have lives outside of paner bread.

    I worked at Panera Bread

    Pros

    - Customers are generally very nice. There are lots of regulars you will become friendly with.
    - Had some positive experiences with coworkers.
    - Good discount policy (65% off food)

    Cons

    - Manager drama. Always bickering between one another.
    - Managers were really good at telling me what to do, but quite terrible at doing anything.
    - High employee turnover.
    - Very inconsistent workplace in many ways.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees don't mind being told what they need to do, but there's an appropriate time. The appropriate time to tell an employee to restock whatever you deem necessary is NOT when there is a line to the door. Ask, and if the employee does a good job with a significant task, thank them. Faking a positive attitude rarely works. I'd rather you do your job and i'll do mine, faking a good relationship is a lot more uncomfortable than being straightforward.
