I have been working at Panera Bread (More than a year)

    Pros

Huge Discount on food, experience working with panera, good pay, easy to try new things, simple job

    Cons

Some managers are terrible, high employee turnover, dificult to move up, sometimes bad team

    Advice to Management

Reduce your high turnover by taking better care of employees. Also, stop wasting so much food. Not enough is donated and too much ends up getting trashed every night

I worked at Panera Bread full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible Schedule, they need the staff so won't fire you if you have to call out or are late, really lovely managers (well 3/5 are). They close when the weather is bad. You get the pastries when they break, and get a discount on food. Good passing through, college or high school job

    Cons

It gets super busy, so if you are working register (like I was for a period) you are taking orders non-stop 11-1/2:30. Or if you are working table service you really get a workout (could be pro haha). The uniform sucks and is enforced.

    Advice to Management

Let women do bike deliveries if they want (hello its 2015), fire incompetent managers, give people the raises they deserve.

I worked at Panera Bread part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Team mentality while completing tasks (for the most part) - Strong morals, values and mission - Great discount (on days that I worked) - Cross training in different areas including dining room, barista, cashier and line - Fast paced, especially while working on drive thru - Clean environment - Donate to people and organizations who need it

    Cons

    - Scheduling was inconsistent - Pay not equivalent with the amount of work done - Customer complaints (which is to be expected, but still annoying to deal with) - At my store, I worked with a lot of teenagers who expected others to continuously expected others to do their work for them

    Advice to Management

The pricing of products is becoming more confusing to customers, so work towards pricing based on the customers point of view.

I worked at Panera Bread full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Core values taught and repeated enough to make a positive impact throughout cafes Competitive salary (for established locations*) Five day work weeks (6 day "unofficial" requirement for first 2 weeks of new cafe openings) 45 scheduled hours per week Great training resources for the entire operation - any and all questions can be answered within minutes after looking through the online database of training docs or after a phone call to the "help desk" IT support which is on call 24/7.

    Cons

Promotions and new job openings given to "friends of friends" like many other companies...it's still very annoying 45 scheduled hours can see a 30% spike during new cafe openings and this is very high. I have seen higher jumps in weekly work hours during new cafe openings and the workload is often unfairly put on the shoulders of the few people who seem to make the best of things with the least amount of help. There are shift supervisors working for the company that make more money than some assistant managers. New positions that emerge within the company are often filled before an opportunity arises for anyone to apply. The "opportunity for growth" is always mentioned in cafes to anyone interested in "climbing the corporate ladder", but it is something that eludes many talented individuals in the company.

    Advice to Management

Corporate phrases that are repeated over and over again mean nothing to managers that want to know how to work through everything you need them to. More talk of strategy, goal setting and accountability need to take place in every cafe. Special treatment with a blatant disregard for management structure should be fixed immediately and giving praise more often than "never" will help more than you know!

I worked at Panera Bread part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Make sure everyone is well trained which builds some moral and comradery (as much as you can get working entry level in food industry) Of course, discounted food is a good perk and Panera has great food. The management I worked for was nice and tolerant Customers were generally very nice and the store i worked at was busy so it stayed moving

    Cons

They were nit picky about clocking in and out for half hour at lunch, food discount is good not great... Pay isnt great, but I wasnt expecting it to be overall not many complaints though

    Pros

Great food with ok discount Great co-workers Young work atmosphere Young bottom level management Great for high school / college students Free Bread & Pastries Low stress work environment Awesome customers OK pay for work expect

    Cons

Closing shifts can be daunting. Inexperienced managers at times add a lot of stress to what should be a simple job. Respect between employees could be better. They are pretty stingy with wages. Experience can differ from corporate stores and between different franchises.

    Advice to Management

Since each franchise has some leeway as to how they manage the store, experience can differ. Try to encourage your better employees to seek management positions. Try to weed out the kids who lack any work ethic whatsoever. They make the job much harder on the other associates.
