I worked at Panera Bread part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The customers are amazing and continue to come back so you get to know each and every one of them individually.

    Cons

The people you work with can be rude and don't expect to get great hours. One week I only worked two days out of the whole week. Also, you basically have to train yourself!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maybe giving more opportunities for more hours.

I have been working at Panera Bread full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

They train well and have the managers who want to be able to take charge let them

    Cons

Managers are very lazy, I am a manager and take pride in doing so, i hate seeing the other managers just boss the associates around and then they sit back and relax. Also there is a lot of friendships with regional managers with general managers and they do nothing, my Gm works less than 35 hrs per week

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote the ones that work hard, give more raises to employees that deserve it

I have been working at Panera Bread part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Initially very friendly, acceptable learning curve, flexible scheduling, can take a break as long as there's a short or no line. Every staff meeting is a chance for a prize.

    Cons

New manager constantly screws up and we get blamed. Will usually require an impossible task to be done before breaks or end of shift. Coworkers are late. Feels like high school all over again.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Just because he's a manager, it doesn't make him right.

I have been working at Panera Bread full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Strong diversity for a first job. Easy for advancement if at the right location. Great opportunity to meet people

    Cons

Depending on your franchise. There is a lack of raises. Lack of employee incentives. And no benefits until management level. Stress level is high. Turnover is high because employees are asked for more and paid less where guy down the street has more to offer.

I have been working at Panera Bread part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The experience will be great on a resumè. The pay is definitely much higher than expected. Many of the customers are friendly senior citizens or professional people.

    Cons

The fast-paced environment at times can feel like McDonald's. Manager will constantly be on your case and speed is key at Panera along with presentation.

I worked at Panera Bread part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Flexible hours.
    Good for younger people.

    Cons

    Not the most clean environment.
    Inconsistant training.
Management does not care about your opinion in how to better the environment/workforce.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ask employees on their opinions on how to better the environment/workforce. Input from more experienced employees can be very helpful and often management can not see what is going on in the whole store along with changes that need to be made to better the store, because of this I believe it is essential for management to take in consideration the opinions of experienced and serious employees. Training employees in all job areas is essential; having a steady circulation of employees on a select job should be every other week, allowing the growth in experience for all. While doing one job for a few months may make more experienced employees in that area, it is an often occurrence that someone will be scheduled to be on working a shift such as working on line than, the rest of the week they are on dish or dining room. This is maddening because you are then expected to be able to to the job when you are barely working that area and have minimal experience. Especially when working on the line this occurs.

I have been working at Panera Bread full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Hours are decent and I don't smell like alcohol or french fries at the end of the shift.

    Cons

Side expectations, such as labor scheduling, food cost critique and general reports invariably fall on your personal time do get it done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I came to Panera to manage. Instead, I find we are allocated management time, ie customer interaction, for 2 hours out of the day. After that, you are a wheel in the machine.
