I have been working at Panera Bread

    Pros

Awesome helpful co-workers. 60% discount on meals. A few positive daily customers.Free drinks from the coffee area and soda fountain.

    Cons

Management is not so great. Customers can be extremely rude and hard to deal with at times. Few or no breaks at all for 4 to 5 hour shifts. Incondersiate about your timing but when your 5 minutes late its a big deal. I rarely get let out on time from work and often wait a long time for transpiration to get home. No break room.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please take more time and consideration to your employees. I also don't think its fair at all that you don't give your workers attleast a 15 to 20 minute break for 4 to 5 hour shifts. Its not healthy for anyone to stand for that long. Also, a few of the managers are not helpful at times and are no where in sight when you need help with customers.

I have been working at Panera Bread

    Pros

you'll learn a lot of different things.
if you are hardworking, flexible with hours and willing to work your butt off you have room to grow, speaking by experience if you ignore the bad habits that your colleagues might have and do things the right way you CAN get promoted after a couple of months. (i.e. if you start from scratch you can go all the way up to becoming an assistant manager or even a manager in six months)

    Cons

    almost always short-staffed!
employees are not very reliable, they might call-out an hour before their shift, or even simply don't show up!!
the pay is not very good compared to all the different responsibilities you'll have!! most cafes/restaurants have one specific expert person for each area (barista, food production, register, cleaning, ...) but here you might end up doing everything in one shift!!
a lot of people who come in treat you like sugar(glassdoor didn't let me use the right word:D)!!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    provide better health benefits!
value your reliable employees by a time-to-time reward or something!
    pay people what they deserve!
use your better employees for better positions!
    hire someone specifically for cleaning!!!
get a hold of your employees!! give verbal or written notice, if not to the ones who are late, at least to the ones who for no reason call-out or don't show up!!!
value your good employees and get them promoted to keep them motivated instead of trying to keep them in their lower position so that you won't have to pay them more!! you might think that would keep some money in your pocket, but in the long run you are only losing!!! nothing is more valuable and won't make a company/corporate/any work place more profitable than knowledgeable, motivated, happy staff!!!

I worked at Panera Bread part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Tips for catering, flexible hours, employee of the month, good discount (65%) on meals, free coffee, tea, and soda.

    Cons

Managerial staff was not good. They did not recognize the bullying going on in the cafe regardless of how many times I went to them with the issues I was having. Instead they would recognize the person doing the bullying as being hard working. The management would also often goof off and set bad examples for the staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maybe recognize when an employee is unhappy and keeps coming to you with the same issues instead of telling them to suck it up.

    Pros

The customers are amazing and continue to come back so you get to know each and every one of them individually.

    Cons

The people you work with can be rude and don't expect to get great hours. One week I only worked two days out of the whole week. Also, you basically have to train yourself!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maybe giving more opportunities for more hours.

I have been working at Panera Bread full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

They train well and have the managers who want to be able to take charge let them

    Cons

Managers are very lazy, I am a manager and take pride in doing so, i hate seeing the other managers just boss the associates around and then they sit back and relax. Also there is a lot of friendships with regional managers with general managers and they do nothing, my Gm works less than 35 hrs per week

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote the ones that work hard, give more raises to employees that deserve it

I have been working at Panera Bread part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The customers. There have been days where it started a little rough, however on more than one occasion, every so often there are customers who truly care about your well-being and it makes my day.
Another thing I really like is the "team" mentality that is instilled early. With Panera Bread being such a popular food franchise it gets super busy more than often and working with my coworkers to get certain task done as being a pleasurable experience.
You also have great benefits including insurance coverage, 401-K, etc.

    Cons

It can definitely be draining. There are times, which is mostly, and I would have had close almost every shift 5-6 days out of the week, which can definitely take a toll you. Where there is a line out the door 30-45 minutes before closing, it can get really stressful and straining to do back to back through out the week. It also seems as if we always are in need of extra help.
