I have been working at Papa John's full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Very flexible scheduling, especially if you're a driver. The bosses tend to be fairly laid back, but that can vary by store.
As a driver, you'll make pretty decent money, because PJ tends to deliver to wealthier people than Domino's would/

    Cons

As an insider, the job is mediocre. It's very easy, but does not pay well, rarely ever will you have a chance to get a raise, and it's very hard to actually move up in the company. When you do move up, the pay isn't very good either.
Also most of the employees like to slack off, and in the 3 stores I've been at, no manager has ever made them stop slacking off. Leads to frustration.

    Pros

Great people to work with!!! They are supportive to build your confidence to work for them.... AWESOME Food product!

    Cons

Good luck getting the insurance they offer (which is a joke anyway) You have to work at least 32 hrs a week average per yr and even if you beg for hours you will not get more than 28 unless you work for other workers who want to get off early. So if you are looking for FT time work & benefits forget it...... They even pull other employees from other stores to fill hours needed.as Shift Managers..... Even though these other employees are working 60-70 hrs a week they do NOT GET PAID OVER TIME as each store bills hours separately.... How else can PAPA JOHN afford commercials on Nation TV during Football Commercials.....???

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

Fun environment and the pizza is delicious

    Cons

-zero room for advancement or raises of any kind, even after four years of work no possibility of a raise.
-CEO doesn't care about his employees.
    -Open on christmas day...seriously?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward good workers with better pay instead of treating good team members the same as terrible ones.

I have been working at Papa John's full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

You can make your own schedule most of the time. You can learn other jobs with in the industry.

    Cons

You will not get off when you are suppose to. If you are schedule 4 to 8 depending on the business its doing you may have to work until business slows down. If you don't mind working over time make sure you spilt it up between two weeks if you are over your time for the week they will send you home, so all the hours you worked to get over time has been taking away, If you do train for another position in the store make sure you have your raise in writing. Training is very little its mostly learn by mistake. Maybe one day on Phones if your lucky, they like throwing new people on the phones on a Friday or Saturday night when its really busy. Poor customer service there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Oh really yeah no. They throw people into shift leading when they NEED a warm body until they can find a replacement for you. You are maybe paid 8 to 8.25 hr. They training is a joke, most of the stuff I learned I did by asking other managers or watching how they did things. Yes its suppose to be a corporate run business but they have their ways of cutting corners. No manager or general manager is trained the same way, after one takes over a store they come In an apply some corporate stuff but then they say do it my way. Some managers I have worked for are very unprofessional, and very young.

I worked at Papa John's part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Bringing home 10-20 dollars in tips every night as a delivery driver. Bringing home money every night is nice. This is NOT, i repeat, NOT a good job for a serious professional adult looking to be taken seriously in a work environment with their peers. This is for, i won't even say a college kid, a highschool kid looking to make some extra money to start a savings account. It's the franchise equivalent of a lemonade stand.

    Cons

Poor management, absolutely no training, minimum wage is awful and considering the company could afford to pay more, it's almost unconstitutional. Low morale from both management and the team. Zero growth opportunities!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Perk up, involve yourself in the workings of your store and train your employees.

I worked at Papa John's full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The general manager and most of my co-workers were great people and fun to work with. They were not very professional, but it's a pizza place so that's expected. Easy job for the most part. Schedule is typically adaptable when you need days off for appointments or other obligations.

    Cons

They pay is awful for any manager below GM status. There is absolutely NO benefits unless you obtain that tittle as well. You will work every weekend and almost every Friday and Saturday night.

While my GM was amazing to work with, my district manager Was not only VERY UNPLEASANT, but was also LAZY. He seemed mentally sub par and I frequently wondered why my GM worked under him.

Frequent turn over from new hires. It seems that you have the same 5-8 people who stay for a few years and become the heart of the store.

The owners of the franchise I worked for were very cheap. Our store was out dated and in need of repair and a pest control service. It only took 6 months of nagging to get pest control and 2 years for them to even start with an update that still neglected key renovations.

You will frequently deal with rude customers who think that when you tell them delivery time is a hour + you're joking or at least offering a double dare. They will begin calling and being nasty within 30 minutes. Plenty of people who try to scam there way into free food. Lord forbid a driver forgets a sauce because you will be dogged talked by 7:10 customers. Granted yes, your driver should check his order. That is part of his job, but an occasional mistake will happen. I wouldn't suggest this job to any above the age of 23. Great for high school students, college students, or 20 something stoners.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you aren't going to offer benefits to your managers then at least pay them $9-$10 an hour. Dish washers at Denny"s make the same if not more that managers at Papa John's. It might cut down on your turn over and make people actually give a damn about their job.

I have been working at Papa John's full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Usually good co-workers that are really the only reason some of us stay. Free food occasionally

    Cons

There is no true direction in the store. In the time I have been there we have had six GMs. For a pizza delivery job the hours are too many and never get any time off that I need. Even if it's to work on my car that I need for my job. Management is biased to some and will give good rush hours to their favorites. There are also no regards to rules. Our current GM hired his wife as his assistant when she has no experience in a pizzeria or management experience. She bumbles around all day making huuuuuuge mistakes and then getting praised for it. I was in line to be a manager. I turned it down. Te payout would be less for a huge amount more work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate. Put the morale of your employees somewhere higher than sewage. Don't just do what makes your life easier.

I have been working at Papa John's full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

its a job. they will hire anybody

    Cons

Consider yourself owned. You are property and they make sure you know it. You might find a nice manager or two, but nice ones don't last long. You must be willing to put your job before everything. If you ever need medical leave or any accommodations be prepared to make a choice between quitting, or working normally anyway, despite doctors orders. In the four years I worked there I was never given any slack. I've had stitches torn out while having to lift heavy objects, even though I had a doctors note restricting my lifting, and was told I could leave and not come back or man up and work through it. I resorted to duct tape over paper towels just to hide the bleeding from customers. I worked through a stomach ulcer that caused me to vomit blood. I was given a small trash can to keep near my station so I wouldn't have to run to the back constantly to puke. I worked until I was 8 months pregnant because you only get a 1 month leave without being replaced, even though I had a doctors note restricting my work hours at 6 months. I wound up having my baby a month early.
