I have been working at Parker Hannifin

    Pros

    1) many divisions covering a vast amount of technology 2) decent benefits package 3)International company for those with aspirations to travel 4) Known name for its Industry 5) GREAT personalities within the company

    Cons

    1) Divisions are not all structured the same, which can be good, but bad at the same time. You can either be at a very prosperous Division, or be at one that is completely on the other end of the spectrum 2) Because of Parker's structure, sometimes, its own Divisions aren't aware of what products another Division might have, which makes Parker difficult to navigate thru for both the employee AND customer 3) Division's Staff-Level Management sometimes are not as engaged as they should be until something is "on fire" or a "hot opportunity", which is disappointing at times 4) International business can be difficult for any company, but sometimes Parker is at competition with its own counterparts 5) HUGE lack of training on the Division level; Corporate has great training programs for the college graduate, but for a new employee coming from a different company, or transitioning divisions, there is definitely room for improvement 6) Hard to move up in the company unless you don't mind moving or unless you're either Sales or Operations oriented.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1) Try to create some sort of synergy across the Divisions so Parker can act as ONE.
    2) Improve International Relations across all Groups
    3) Improve Divisional Job Training for those outside of the entry-level or college graduate applicant pool

I have been working at Parker Hannifin

    Pros

Relatively stable financial performance. Global company. Plenty of job postings at any given time.

    Cons

Little R&D effort to be an industry leader. Aging company with "old school" tendencies. No compensation adjustment based on geographic location.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop and engage young employees. Stop being a "me too" producer.

    Pros

Good work, mentally stimulating, bottom line is that if you accomplish your goals in time, nobody cares about how you did it.

    Cons

Too ma ny levels of managers, continually asking for you to complete tasks without giving you the requirements for the tasks. For instance we required a central database to define all of the signals we were looking at. This database was other groups responsibility but even though our programming couldn't continue without this primary requirement, we were blamed for failing to complete on time. I finally put together this database which was not in my domain, and instead of praise I simply had added responsibility with no upside.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change upper management to have more knowledge of what the workers are doing and what they require.

    Pros

It's a big company with divisions which gives engineers a large field of crops to choose from.

    Cons

Many of the facilities are ran by people with lack of management experience and poor judgement calling.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees more like assets rather than a liability.

    Pros

Cool product, great learning experience. Only worth it if you have the opportunity to work on a team that develops controls software, its the best learning experience there.

    Cons

Poor management, depressing to work in a group responsible for sales that sells very little. Unless oil prices move up--this isn't likely to get any better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appreciate talented people more, work to get them in an environment where they have the opportunity to be truly empowered. Almost every talented person I knew from this division left over time because these things didn't happen.
