I have been working at Party City full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

You are helping people plan parties, can be a lot of fun. Never a dull moment.

    Cons

Payroll allotments are a joke, no formula. Management turnover is ridiculous. Management Bonuses are often taken away with no notice or reason why. Managers have no control over P&L's but are responsible for them. EVERY head position in the company is an outside hire, very scary given the company has been around since the 80's. The company has gotten much bigger than the Mom and Pop infrastructure. Very hard to get solutions or even answers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the managers instead of firing and constantly replacing them. Spend some money improving systems and process and you may find managers can be great when given the necessary tools.

    Pros

Somewhat fun environment. The people are usually nice and the atmosphere is mostly laid back. Good job for someone who doesn't want to work too hard

    Cons

Horrible hours, minimum wage. If the managers don't think you're funny or cute, then you don't get very many hours no matter how hard of a worker you are. Temps seemed to have gotten more hours during Halloween than I personally did. I know atleast one temp who got over 40 hours one week when i only got 5. Also a close friend and co-worker who worked with me there, who was quite lazy and I out worked him considerably, got more hours than i did purely because he was good looking.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reevaluate your hiring process and schedule making process. Give workers equal opportunity and don't base it off of looks.

I worked at Party City part-time

    Pros

There are a lot of adorable kids who come in and they can bring joy to your day

    Cons

It's basically what you'd expect from a minimum wage job. Let me exemplify how truly stupid they believe their employees are: they show you how to use a broom in their training videos. Yes, I saw the same clip of someone showing how to use a broom 3 times during training. So when you're at a place that doesn't believe you actually know how to sweep a floor, you could imagine how disrespectfully they treat you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would give zero stars if possible due to the management.

    Pros

30% Discount on costumes that's about the just of it.

    Cons

Management was too overbearing and there is always a shift in what you are expected to do every 10 minutes leaving you with no time to finish previous task. Manager was also very mean and complained about the customers. and even down talked other employees. Also the manager favored woman over men.

I have been working at Party City full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Customer service is the worst experience

    Cons

This is a rip-off company. I believe the owner has a 3 franchise they refused to return the money within hours timeframe. I called corporate and they claimed that this store had many complaints.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please investigate this franchise. They are ripping-off people by not letting return their items. It is not halloween yet and there is no such a thing as voice messages every 15 minutes. I was there and i never one. Also they claimed to have banners with their policy, which they do have for 7 days return with receipt. My purchased was within hours.

    Cons

Manger didn't care that i had to call out of work because my grandfather had just died and had to head out of town for the funeral.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trying to see things from the employee view instead of wiring about themselves.

I have been working at Party City as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

If you're a temporary associate (i.e: Halloween), it comes to an end at some point, and you've got that to look forward to.

    Cons

Management does an awful job at communicating, and things change constantly without warning. The pay is too low for the expectations for temps. Also, "halloween experts" are encouraged to essentially hound customers until they buy something. Management sets goals for the hour (ex: $1200 in sales within the hour) and if said goals are not met, associates are blamed. I've overheard my managers talk poorly of employees, customers, and other managers in front of everyone and at loud volumes. Pretty rude if you ask me. The signs advertising employment are not true. Pay sucks, not a fun working environment, not competitive.
Warning to anyone considering a Halloween position: at some point, you'll be forced to stand in the cold in a costume holding a sign on the side of the road. It is humiliating and you will not be told about this part of the job upon being hired. Don't do it, just run far, far away.
After only a few weeks I was ready to quit. My coworkers and I shared the same hatred for our main manager. He was sexist in the worst ways (quite pervy and rude), picks favorites, and practically ignores anything you put on your availability sheet.

Fix everything about your employment policies.

I worked at Party City part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Customers are pleasant. The store has a good variety of party supplies for almost any occasion throughout the year. Quality is not meant to last, more for one time use.

    Cons

Managers and supervisors don't know how to treat people. I don't think any of them had more than a high school diploma. Once the manager had us all count individual pieces of bulk candy. In three months that I worked there, I had four separate customers approach me and whisper how unprofessional the manager was in his dealings with staff. I also witnessed the resignation of a supervisor and 3 good workers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get some training, learn how to smile, and be pleasant and gracious to your fellow human beings. Note: This was a franchise, at least at the time I worked.

    Pros

Fun co-workers and I really enjoy the customer interaction

    Cons

Horrible management from the GM down. Spare yourself the agony and work somewhere else where you will be appreciated. Don't even think about raising any issues because you'll be labeled a troublemaker. They have their own little click there and everyone else is an outsider. People skills training for these managers is desperately needed. Also, be ready to work 7+ hour shifts with just one 15 minute break.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get some training and treat your employees like human beings.
