I worked at Party City full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good insurance. Great co-workers. I have met great people while employed. Pay was decent for the position. Good assortment of product.

    Cons

Real disconnect between corporate office and stores. Current district manager has no clue on how to do his job. The general managers are rarely in the stores and the District Managers let them get away with it. Senior management are very negative. Never any positive things to say. Will tell you one thing and do another.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work with store management rather than against. Look for positives in the store and acknowledge.

I have been working at Party City part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Well, its true that this is the only retailer where one can have off during thanksgiving and Christmas. Generous discount to employees. Company is profitable despite all cons below. Will not rate on outlook for next 6 months as does not pertain to the cons of this review

    Cons

First - I looked at Party City on Glass door early in the year and it was not a favorable outlook for this company. Less than 2 stars, 21 % referral to friends and the CEO had a 29 % rating. Now look at it. Really ? Lets have a bunch of employees from HR, Recruiting etc. go online and up the ratings. Glass door you've been duped.

Second-Company is run by manufacturing heads not anyone with any real sense of retail. Far too many projects going on at any given time, and revisions, revisions, revisions. Remodels galore! When does it end. I have never seen a company spend so much time and money on "moving things around". No one communicates with anyone else in regards to the various departments of the company. Shipping doesn't communicate with inventory, merchandising doesn't communicate with shipping etc. Too much focus on seasonal, than what brings money into the stores on a daily basis! The customer is not interested in Summer or Easter merchandise now. Why the rush to get it out. Most retailers take this time for 'Spring cleaning" of there stores not these guys. There is no real sense of operational or logistical know how on any level. Zero in regards to a loss prevention department. Too many store types. Basic, Mega, Mega Mega . A lot of ego at work here. The product is a product that does not have to be touched, tasted, smelled nor tried on. So why so many stores? Cut back on Brick and mortar and re-invigorate the website.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The cookie cutter plan does not work here. Look at your demographics to help decide what a store should carry. Know your customer base. To all DMS , open up to your higher ups about what is really going on in the stores, Support your field people, they need to know that you have there backs and can relate to them. Don't be afraid to say the right thing because you are afraid for your job. You are business managers not politicians.

I worked at Party City part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

I love this job because it was a fun atmosphere. I loved that I could give customers ideas on how to improve something for their parties.

    Cons

Too much drama at the store I worked at. Everyone talked about everyone. Including the main one who was supposed to show the example, the store manager. Also hours were horrible. I got between 4 and 20 hours a week, which began to not even be worth the gas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There's definitely alot this company needs to work on.

I worked at Party City part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Fun job, flexible schedule, pretty easy. Customers are pretty understanding, great as a first job of high school students. Just don't stick around for too long.

    Cons

Really bad turn over rate, low pay, raises are extremely rare. I have worked there for two and a half years and no raise. Not enough people for busy days. Stress comes and goes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be better at hiring better people. And pay us more.

I have been working at Party City full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

-Work environment can be fun, at times.
    -Promote from within.
-Easy work - personal life balance.

    Cons

There are just way too many to list. One huge con would definitely be the crappy pay. This is a good place to work at to get your foot in the retail world and gain some experience but is FAR from career-worthy.

    Pros

    Easy hiring process
    Flexible management style
    Good brand
    Good work environment

    Cons

    50+ hours for GM
Little liquidation creates too much pack away of old merchandise
Poor communication between corp and store
    Very weak HR dept

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop your HR department or hire better Human Resources talent to support the field.

I worked at Party City part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

"Flexible " not if you like job
If you want to work a lot of hours seasonal is designed for you.

    Cons

If you were thinking the place was flexible think again. At least if you want to be made permanent.

The store I worked at must have broken serious rules because we hardly got breaks.

The way it worked at the store if you are new you learn on your own. Staff should be mixed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Prepare the schedules accordingly
Have a fair amount of people to work the areas corporate assigned.
