ProsThere are only a few good things I can say about working here. The employee discount is great, I like most of the people I work with and I was able to work my schedule around school.

ConsThe pay is horrible and the yearly raises are an insult. One of my managers told me how much she makes after working for the company for many years and I was shocked... Less than $9 an hour after working there for over 10 years is crazy! This is also the first place I have worked where you do not get breaks other than your 30 minute lunch. You can work a 9-10 hour day and only get a 30 minute lunch... that's is.

I worked for a franchise store

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    ProsI had chances to advance

ConsHorrible pay, bad hours, and management did what they wanted while giving employees a rough way to go.

Advice to Senior ManagementAppreciate the employees you have. Thank them instead of constantly just telling them things they did wrong.

The company may be called Party City, but it's no party to work there; had high expectations, but was very disappointed.

General Manager (Former Employee) Irving, TX

ProsThe benefits were competitive, and I enjoyed the customers and the employees I worked with in my store, as well as my peers and DM.

ConsCorporate is out of touch with the field. They send an overabundance of communication, and often the messages are contradicting. Several managers left saying they found better work-life balance elsewhere. The regional seemed more concerned with his image than with offering support to the stores. I was salaried so I thought the pay was competitive when I took the job, but when I figured out what I was really making per hour with all of the extra hours I worked, it wasn't worth it.

Advice to Senior ManagementPerhaps the executives should consider participating in Undercover Boss so they will understand what it takes to run a store with a multitude of tasks and very little hours, all the while having to provide excellent service. I am favor of great service, but it becomes difficult when you have to be a task master.

    Average.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsEnjoyed fellow employees. Did learn enough about retail environments for the future.

ConsWorked odd hours, got calls to "come in immediately" on days I had off, management extremely unorganized. Customers were rude (not surprising). Poor training. Didn't let you take full breaks. Lead you on about continued employment.

Great if you like walking on others

    Executive Assistant (Current Employee)

ProsSalary can be good once you get into management but you have to push for it

ConsUpper management are not operations oriented, they change things constantly and institute policies and procedures that are ineffective and have no real logic or purpose to them.
In the years I have been with the company it has gotten progressively worse, you will never hear a thank you or good job only why didn't you do this or it took to long.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire someone who knows how to operate a retail store and take some classes on how to treat people with dignity and respect!

Could be a fun job if the company was ran correctly.

General Manager (Current Employee) Parsippany, NJ

ProsFast paced with constant seasonal changes .Never a dull moment with the constant changes in management and best practices.

ConsThe training program leaves a lot to be desired. New managers are put in positions with no training.

Advice to Senior ManagementHow about promoting from within? They are constantly hiring Dm's from other companies.
