I worked at Party City part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good experience as a first job or part-time job through high school. Friendly coworkers. Halloween was always a fun time even though it got hectic.

    Cons

Managers tried to fit in too much with the younger crowd. There was never a set task when I got to work. That's retail though..

    Advice to Management

Focus more on having professional relationships with employees. If an employee needs you up front for help with a customer, don't complain over the walkie and take 10 minutes to get there.

    I worked at Party City

    Pros

Build quality work experience. Was promoted within 8 months. Hands on learning. Ability to learn and work on your own

    Cons

Inadequate training (but I got to learn a lot of stuff on my own which was helpful.) Over priced and poor quality product. Many complaints from customers which you have to shrug off.

    Advice to Management

Don't be so sketchy amongst other managers of other stores. Don't talk about employees. Be a little more organized.

    Pros

Flexible work schedule, minimum Holiday's worked, vacation through Christmas season as well as summer

    Cons

Company is growing large fast, which is good for the consumer! In the process they have lost the sense of " family" with the employees, no longer treated as valuable assets now we are just " expendable "

    Advice to Management

Take some time to see the stores without notice, take a look at the "real store". Visit an off site storage. Then consider for a moment that the management staff is knowledgeable and hard working, the associates too. Now, find the root cause without blaming the store team, the district, and the regional. Find a solution without threats and terminations, these are just Band-Aids. Find the real problems and then we can find real solutions , lasting solutions and a better future for everyone. Invest in and support your most valuable assets, your employees, then watch how they support and invest in you.

    Pros

I love the family aspect of how we take care of each other from day to day, great vacation and sick pay with floating holidays, flexible schedule for the most part, the upper management are nice and laid back not too overbearing or mean, and i love the fact i can be creative and help people with their wedding invitations and be part of planning their special events.

    Cons

The pay isn't good for the amount of work they put on you. The job is highly stressful on a day to day basis with all of the tasks your given to perform, some days are harder than others depending on the demands of the store. It's highly annoying that the store is constantly in flux even with the demands of customers, trucks, balloon counter, personalization, and register.

    Advice to Management

If I would get paid better for the position I am in, the cons wouldnt be that bad to accomplish, i could handle the stress of it. Nobody who works 40 hours a week and as hard as we do should have problems paying bills.

    Pros

It is a good place to start where you can learn good business standards. Not hard to get into if you know the area and can adapt quickly

    Cons

the starting salary is not great and it would help if they had more options to advance from within rather than outside higher

    Advice to Management

Starting salary can be better, and upper management can be easier to talk to. higher people from within rather than from outside
