    Great first job

Sales Associate (Current Employee) Columbia, SC

ProsFun environment and it's a great place to gain some work experience if you've never held a job before. You can learn a variety of skills such as how to run a cash register, stocking the merchandise, blowing up balloons and learning how to deal with customers face to face.

ConsHalloween, which is the biggest time of the year, is an absolute chaotic mess. If you survive October, the other 11 months are a piece of cake.

Advice to Senior ManagementJust continue to find ways to make October as smooth as possible

I have never loved a job more ( all that changed when those who lead us changed)

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsFun seasonal always changing Christmas off no black Friday great discount

ConsLong days managers in cali now hourly making it difficult to get everything done leaders not open to conversation put up or shut up mentality. Hire from out side their own work force and pay better than when promoted from within raises are a joke. Company direction and support of it's Team just not there

Advice to Senior ManagementRemember that All employees need to make a living and pay to that not to the benefit of the companies bottom line we are the idea makers the ones who put a face to the Party City name

    Lots of room for growth

    General Manager (Current Employee)

ProsThe company is growing every year opening more stores which leads to opportunities for advancement. We usually have customers who are in good spirits as they are in our stores because they are celebrating something happy in their lives. There are no other companies that are direct competition so you feel a sense of job security.

ConsEverything is a planogram which does not give you the ability to be creative often. In some areas stores are very close together creating competition between sister stores.

    Fun

Sales Associate (Former Employee) Edgewater, NJ

ProsI always have great things to say about working here. First off they trained me super well, not like in other stores where they abandon you on your first day! We had walkies there and managers/supervisors were always available and more than willing to help if ever called. They have lots of patience to train! Second the amount of work load is doable. You are def on your feet all day but it's not so much running around or carrying heavy things. Working at the balloon counter was my favorite part even though your fingers get tired, you get to be creative and see people smile. Cashier is the most boring job there but still, it's simple! answering phone calls is easy as well once you are trained and know how to answer most questions. Of course working during Halloween seems hectic but there's SO MANY new hires to help that you know you won't be left with all of the work. Everyone literally works as a team and sincerely wants to help each other, my kinda place! I'm gonna miss working there! I've worked for other retail stores before and this has definitely been my favorite. i ALWAYS left work happy and NEVER dreaded coming in! pretty crazy to me but it's true, this place was that great! My managers were never too pushy or hard to talk to. Best management I've worked for! I hope to be lucky again!

ConsThe only reason I can't continue working there is the pay. I live on my own and need to afford rent and what not. If they payed hire, I'd stay there without a doubt!

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the awesome work! You guys are great!

Party City Co. is a great company to work for. They offer great training and plenty of room to move up in the business.

Sales Associate (Former Employee) San Francisco, CA

ProsThe experience and the opportunities they provide. There are so many stores and so many positions to move up on the ladder through.

ConsFor some people competition is a downfall. In a way party city is a very competitive work environment. You are constantly trying to show your boss why you are the best employee they have.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you're not a hard working, clear cut, dedicated manager, like my manager was at the Bryant street location in San Francisco, then I would strive to be more like that.

    Great place to start

    Cashier (Current Employee)

ProsI worked here when I was still in school and really enjoyed it. Coworkers were nice. I enjoyed helping customers select items for parties and events.

ConsIt can go from being super busy (Halloween) to being dead (most other holidays.) The pay is not great.

Advice to Senior ManagementConsidering raising pay to keep good employees.

    Fun environment to work in.

Team Lead I (Current Employee) Coral Springs, FL

ProsVery relaxed job, easy to get your foot in the door. They mostly only hire during Halloween for temporary and then keep a handful of people that showed potential.

ConsLow pay. Everyone starts at minimum wage and when they give you a raise once a year its literally pennies. Last year my raise was .05 cents the year before that it was .11 cents.

Advice to Senior ManagementOnly store managers get salary. So if youre a Assistant Manager youll be paid hourly working 55 hours a week.
