    Pros

    Great comp and benefits.

    Cons

Much bureaucracy and politics. Not a culture of excellence. Arrogance in parts of the organization without a willingness to partner to drive business results. Blaming.

    Advice to Management

Be a bit more creative in how a job gets done rather than pure transaction and silo.

    Pros

Nice building, covered parking. If you're interested in Cacti/Nagios graphs, this place is heaven. It's also fascinating if you're into social trending and statistics, because their monitoring system and its ability to predict what their traffic is going to be in the near future is uncanny. Pay was good too, assuming you can keep the job.

    Cons

Their management is the worst. When they're not looking down on you for not understanding something they didn't clearly explain, they're pelting you with Nerf darts (I can't make this up). They also don't treat their customers (the other departments that call for help) very well at all.

Don't count on any training with substance. They'll give you an outdated wiki (years old) and expect you to learn the rest on your feet. That would be fine, except that they don't follow any standards, so you can't research anything on your own time.

Oh, and they have a terrible attitude toward their prior staff. The way they spoke about past employees made me very uncomfortable. The gossip never ends, and it's not very professional.

    Advice to Management

If you want to have some fun, you should monitor the room when they don't think anyone is watching.

If you're not Indian, do not take a job at PayPal.

    Pros

    - I learned a lot about web application programming.
    - The pay and benefits are pretty good.

    Cons

    1) PayPal's workforce is more than 70% Indian. Of course, this is not problem in itself.

At PayPal, however, the Indians heavily favor their own. They get away with this because they control the place.

As a result, if you're not Indian, you have no chance at a good rating or a promotion. If you *are* Indian, you have a cushy job for life.

    2) PayPal stack ranks its entire workforce every 6 months. The result is intense competition among "teammates," with lots of backstabbing, politics, and court intrigue.

    Advice to Management

Stop discriminating against non-Indian employees. It's bad business; it's also ILLEGAL.

    Pros

It is a great brand name. No one is in charge, so you can set any direction you like. Well, until your legacy employees complain. Great Indian food, if you like that.

    Cons

These people are out of control and uneducated They filled an entire building directly from India and they wonder wtf why are these under qualified people making decisions that 8th graders from the USA would not make. Look at customer complaints of frozen accounts inside a black hole.

    Advice to Management

If you hire someone to do a job. Let that person do that job. Give them the tools, support and management cover to make it happen. Through the years and direction changes the company has experienced "bright flight" -- those bright enough to make the move elsewhere have left. Those remaining are embroilled, embittered, passive agressive "barnacles" on the hull of the ship. If you hire someone to brush clean the barnacles, you also need to protect their back when those barnacles start crying: "I don't want to leave, I don't want to change, HR complaint, save me from the new manager who "has meetings and measures my work"

    Pros

Company and the working culture is good. It was once a best place to work and not any more. Peers and your reporting managers are good. But after that no one is good.

    Cons

The management people don't know what they are doing. They lack ideas and innovation. They don't bring in any innovation or world changing ideas. If it comes from the bottom down they won't appreciate it. They don't recognize you for anything. I have worked here for 6+ years as a contractor and proved several times. But they never wanted me to convert in to a full time employee. The VPs are bureaucratic. They want work from me but they don't want full time employees. Because they need all from IITs and MITs. What an idea? Beware this company's code is the stupidest way of doing things. All dirty if and while loops. For that they dont need any body from IIT or MIT. Even a normal school kid can do it.
    They will never promote you.

    Advice to Management

There are reduntant VP positions. Allow people to innovate and appreciate them who ever they are. PayPal is going down with lack of innovation and appreciation from people. you can sustain only because of the existing customers for few more years. But for sure if you don't take any action you are going down PayPal.

Rescinded my offer 13 days after I accepted it. I had 2 other equivalent paying offers (Software Developer) which I had already declined to work for. I would like to suggest people to accept this but don't trust them until you join them in fact don't trust until you work for a month for them. You can be removed whenever. Please don't be at the mercy of their will. Keep your options live until the last moment with this company for your safety.

    Advice to Management

Please decide first whether you are going to keep your offer or not.

    Pros

Opportunity to interact with very talented and smart people such as ivy league graduates
A job if you need to live in the bay area and have no other options
Good cafeteria with diverse cuisines offered

    Cons

Big company politics and policies without the security and stability of one - reorgs happen every 6 months and you may need a new role every so often just to hold on to your job
Executive incentive structure encourages exploitation of the rank and file employees - the company artificially keeps attrition rates low by hiring individuals on visas that restrict their mobility to change employers
Not your typical American company - this is a sweatshop that discourages ideas and innovation
Not a trusting work environment - very unforgiving and harsh to newcomers if they fail to adjust quickly
Constantly hiring - because they constantly fire employees who for no fault of their own are unhappy. Likes to save on severance costs by artificially creating reasons to fire employees.
Management is a firm believer in getting "fresh new blood" all the time to do their bidding. What is worse is all the employees working in the firm are blinded and believe the management's opinion without questions. No one has the guts to be a whistle-blower. And if someone does - they get thrown out for asking too many questions.
To survive in this company - blindly follow orders and do everything to please your bosses.
Company has been firing employees for meeting it's growth targets - the company is growing phenomenally but because the investors demand even more, the management has accepted the recourse of reducing operating costs.

    Pros

Good location, nice campus and facility.

    Cons

Too many meetings - almost 50% of the day time is spent in various meetings.
Different vertical teams are hard to communicate and the communication can be quite inefficient.
Politics are floating around everywhere. Lots of re-orgs. The space for career growth is not much.

    Advice to Management

I worked for PayPal for almost 6 years. Recently, lots of my former paypal colleagues, including myself, left the company recently. Bay Area is a place with a lot of opportunities for talented people. If the management don't care about the talented people you have, they will leave, sooner or later.

    Pros

PayPal has great technology available to their employees, housed in a beautiful building.

    Cons

I was hired as a contract recruiter, only to learn that what they really wanted was an admin that could juggle their interview schedules through Microsoft. To make it more challenging, no one talks to each other. All communication is done by email or by 'i.m.ing'. Even though I sat 10 feet away from the people I worked with any attempt to speak to them face-to-face was met with the comment 'just i.m.me'. This is the perfect environment for 30 something candidates who want to live their lives staring at a computer for 8 hours a day. This experience was a huge disappointment and let-down.

    Advice to Management
