I worked at People's United Bank

    Pros

Friendly environment. Average/competitive salaries. Great communication. Lots of room for advancement. A handful of really great senior managers. Lots of learning opportunities. Good work/life balance.

    Cons

Recently, they have been closing many traditional branches, in favor of "in-store" branches located in supermarkets. Unfortunately, these locations are open seven days and late hours. Also, in my opinion, they do not give a professional appearance like a traditional branch does.

    Pros

This company offers the opportunity to move in as many different directions as you want. There are tons of opportunities to learn about different products and services and earn certifcations. They are very flexible with employee work schedules and take into account life circumstances. The PTO is good and the holidays off are better.

    Cons

You have to be very independent and persistent to get ahead.

I worked at People's United Bank as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

The people were great. Extremely welcoming and always very helpful. The work environment overall was exactly what I was looking for. Definitely a growing regional bank that will hopeful penetrate new markets in the near future.

    Cons

The systems were a bit difficult to use and they definitely need updating. Luckily this problem was being worked on while I was employed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Integrate the systems so that data is more readily available and easy to manipulate. Be a bit more transparent about where employees stand.

    Pros

It is a great place to learn the retail banking environment. You get great exposure to banking, sales, customer service, networking and building relationships. The experience has taught me to be entrepreneurial, and the importance of working well with others. Teamwork and focus is necessary to make goals.

    Cons

Challenges are the same for any retail environment. You need to have to have good connections inside the bank to get things done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Share everything you know with your employees to help them grow. Never show your employees a negative attitude.
