An ok place to start working at.

    Retail Sales Associate (Former Employee)
    Wilmington, DE

ProsThe people I worked with were great. I made some really great friends. Quite flexible with hours. They were very accommodating with the work hours and scheduled around my classes while I attended college.

ConsChances of getting a decent raise are slim unless you suck up to the management. I received a cumulative raise of a meager 55c while working there for 4 years. No worker at the company seemed interested in furthering the company's interest. Which is understandable seeing how unappreciated we all felt.

Advice to Senior ManagementProperly reward your employees and give some decent incentives to provide good service.

ProsJust one thing, the health insurance.

ConsI would have to write a small novel.

No room for advancement, they care less about their employees!!

    Sales Associate (Former Employee)
    Chicago Ridge, IL

ProsClose to home, but that's it!

ConsI worked for them for 6 years!! They rotate managers so often in their stores that it never gave you a chance to move up yourself especially when a new manager comes in and has to get to know you and the way you work over and over again. Women who work here have no say in anything. Its defiantly a mans world, but I was determined to advance since I was a young woman seeking more money. They just wouldn't allow it no matter how hard I worked, there was no way to move up for a woman, I actually seen other women move up, but only because they had other motives. if you know what I'm talking about. This place was great the first 2 years i worked here, it fell apart after that and I hear its just getting worse. My pay was decent when I started but 6 years later i was only up 80 cents more than when i started?? Place is crooked... I will never recommend anyone or any woman to set foot in those doors unless your looking for drama!!!

Advice to Senior ManagementGood luck even trying... Unless your a hard working man even then you will be treated like a dog...

Profitable Service Manager who is viewed by his superior as a go to employee for anything and everything.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsMy contribution to the company does not go unnoticed by my superiors. Fellow employees are a pleasure to work with.

ConsThe economic environment has made making sales a challenging atmosphere. Our corporate office still expects high sales with higher margins with lower payrolls.

Advice to Senior ManagementSpend more to make more. Allow for larger staffing to ensure high quality customer service. Too many customers complain that there are not enough employees around when they have a question.

Pay is decent, not very good

    Assistant Service Manager (Former Employee)
    Los Angeles, CA

ProsIt was a job to get by, not really exciting to work here, corporate has unrealistic expectations. Managers act like little girls when they know corporate will be making a visit to the store. Kind of embarrassing to see your boss following around another grown man like a puppy...

ConsThe amount you earn for the company vs. your compensation can make you feel cheated.. you really have to sell people things they don't need to make a decent income, which doesn't make you feel very good. The company recently is going through an overhaul to try to become the "next best alternative to the dealership." They are raising the prices on everything in order to pay for all this remodeling and unnecessary travel of corporate.

There are better minimum wage jobs

    Sales Associate (Former Employee)
    Ridgewood, NY

ProsThe employee discount is useful if you have a car.

ConsInflexible and uncertain hours, depends how much the manager favors you.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay associate better, and train managers to be more respectful to staff.

    No room to grow

ProsYou learn a lot if you try

ConsNo room to grow, hard headed managers will not change, and will not notice you change.

    Pep Boys Auto Repair

    Automotive Desk Clerk (Former Employee)
    Fayetteville, NC

ProsThey train you so that you are familiar with automotive terms and products.

ConsThey work you so hard and don't pay a lot so you are stuck in this exhaustive cycle. Customers are usually upset because of the lack of care that goes into fixing their vehicles.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt would be nice if management actually cared about the employees and the customers. A little would go a long way.

Started great and promising, then went downhill til I quit.

    Retail Sales Associate (Former Employee)
    Modesto, CA

    ProsCoworkers and team were great
    Customers great to us
    Store location ideal

    ConsNo advancement
    Management played favorites
    Lots of demeaning behavior
Lack of care and respect for their workers

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't talk down to your other employees. They are people too, and deserve respect. Just because you are management, that doesn't give you right to look down on your team of associates and laugh when they complain. Take your team seriously, and always keep them in the loop.

And most important: When you have a problem with someone or someone's performance, talk to them about it. Address the problem, face to face, before resorting to disciplinary action immediately.
