    Pros

Casual laid-back atmosphere. No one is jumping down your throat in my department. People are generally nice.

    Cons

It takes a long time to get an idea off the ground. By the time you implement, the idea has morphed into something else. Some dead weight around at the corporate offices. People just riding it out is the feeling you get. IT applications are outdated. Many people still on Office 2003. Haven't had an all-departmental meeting in months. Not sure what the overall strategy is for my department or the company in general.
Corporate office is old and drab
Lots of systemic problems that drain the company of money.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate CEO strategy to all and cascade it down to SVP and VP levels so we know what the plan is. Get rid of folks who are consistently poor-performers at all levels.

Former Employee - General Service Tech in Bedford Park, IL

    Pros

Lots of opportunity to learn, Pay for ASE Training, Chance to gain selling experience.

    Cons

Here's where it gets messy. Although there is opportunity to learn the service manager would rather have you sweep and mop the shop and also paint the bay doors and car lifts taking away from advancing your skills. Your days off are rarely if ever consecutive so forget trying to go out of town for a weekend unless you know months in advance. Low pay for responsibility of the position. yes you are technically lube tech; however, making 7.50/hr is not enough to live off of especially when you're supposed to be paid for working on vehicles as well. Rather than giving an oil change to the GST's they'll give it to the mechanics, even if they're swamped and make the customer wait an additional hour. Also, you have the feeling of being watched constantly by the manager and pretty much are told to up-sell or you lose your job. They make you explain service to customers in such a manner that their vehicle will blow up if they don't get that alignment done immediately because the vehicle slightly pulls.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stick to your word when you hire someone. Don't promise them they have chances to learn and advance when you keep putting a mop and broom in their hands rather than a wrench. Don't make your techs falsify services needed on an inspection form just to make a quick buck. Service only what is needed and you will in the end make more money because that customer will trust you and keep returning for service on their vehicle.

Former Employee - Retail Sales Associate in Wilmington, DE

    Pros

The people I worked with were great. I made some really great friends. Quite flexible with hours. They were very accommodating with the work hours and scheduled around my classes while I attended college.

    Cons

Chances of getting a decent raise are slim unless you suck up to the management. I received a cumulative raise of a meager 55c while working there for 4 years. No worker at the company seemed interested in furthering the company's interest. Which is understandable seeing how unappreciated we all felt.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Properly reward your employees and give some decent incentives to provide good service.

    Pros

Benefits are good, General Manager position allows a lot of autonomy to make decisions.

    Cons

Retail side of business is going to bankrupt company. Significant negative sales trend over last 8 years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Retail and Commercial side of business needs to be sold off. Focus on service side of business.

    Pros

Work close to home, like my co workers, get discounts on a lot of things I use frequently. Did I say close to home?

    Cons

Thrown into job without proper training, long hours, micro managed, when you have a single bad sales day everyone's calling you and treating you like crap

    Pros

Close to home, but that's it!

    Cons

I worked for them for 6 years!! They rotate managers so often in their stores that it never gave you a chance to move up yourself especially when a new manager comes in and has to get to know you and the way you work over and over again. Women who work here have no say in anything. Its defiantly a mans world, but I was determined to advance since I was a young woman seeking more money. They just wouldn't allow it no matter how hard I worked, there was no way to move up for a woman, I actually seen other women move up, but only because they had other motives. if you know what I'm talking about. This place was great the first 2 years i worked here, it fell apart after that and I hear its just getting worse. My pay was decent when I started but 6 years later i was only up 80 cents more than when i started?? Place is crooked... I will never recommend anyone or any woman to set foot in those doors unless your looking for drama!!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Good luck even trying... Unless your a hard working man even then you will be treated like a dog...

    Pros

My contribution to the company does not go unnoticed by my superiors. Fellow employees are a pleasure to work with.

    Cons

The economic environment has made making sales a challenging atmosphere. Our corporate office still expects high sales with higher margins with lower payrolls.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more to make more. Allow for larger staffing to ensure high quality customer service. Too many customers complain that there are not enough employees around when they have a question.

Former Employee - Assistant Service Manager in Los Angeles, CA

    Pros

It was a job to get by, not really exciting to work here, corporate has unrealistic expectations. Managers act like little girls when they know corporate will be making a visit to the store. Kind of embarrassing to see your boss following around another grown man like a puppy...

    Cons

The amount you earn for the company vs. your compensation can make you feel cheated.. you really have to sell people things they don't need to make a decent income, which doesn't make you feel very good. The company recently is going through an overhaul to try to become the "next best alternative to the dealership." They are raising the prices on everything in order to pay for all this remodeling and unnecessary travel of corporate.
