I worked at Pep Boys part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Laid-back environment overall, easy job, flexible hours

    Cons

Favoritism, hiring family members and permitting them to slack off, different treatment of genders

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There SERIOUSLY needs to be something done about how employees are treated. There is a very noticeable difference between how males and females are treated, family member vs. non family member, etc. Even customers who come in have pointed this out.

I have been working at Pep Boys full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

at least when it comes to the typical holidays they are not off limits to take vacations sometimes like typical most retail companies that black out all those dates & times, not the best company to work for but also clearly not the worst

    Cons

Too many to list, but big issues center around constant changes in directions the company wants to go, lots of upper management & executive changes * revolving doors, many of the new area directors have no experiance or knowledge needed to do their jobs

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote more from within but the right people, not just the suck ups trying to get promoted that don't really know anything, and also stick with what works.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Pep Boys

    Pros

They hire anyone. You can move to a higher position. They sometimes provide training. If you are an elite, and cool with the manager, and never mess up cars, you can talk your way into a raise.

    Cons

They hire anyone. A LOT of politics, gossip and fights between departments. Raises come sparingly. Sometimes you have to show up at 6:00AM

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Interview more people, even when you're not hiring to make sure you stop hiring bad techs.

    I worked at Pep Boys

    Pros

Enjoyed my time with Pep Boys and the people that work there. Was my first retail job and gave me all the tools i needed to succeed as a sales associate. Very easy job and a lot of downtime.

    Cons

Management needs improvement. Regional Director and Store Manager clueless at times what is going on in the stores. Most of the time was spent in the back room doing paper work or conference calls. Avoided confrontation with employees most of the time. Worked when Gores Group decided to merge with company but they decided to back out because of the financial issues with the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More assertive and welcoming to customers. Many customers have negative opinions of the company due to lackadaisical work of service team. More emphasis on internet business to drive sales.

    Pros

Co workers are great people on personal levels, Pretty much all cut from same cloth.

    Cons

Management over works employees, if you have any over time you are told to take extended lunch. Over work for amount of commission is provided.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay associates more so there is incentive to do the amount of work that is asked,

    Pros

Good benefits, wide variety on hand parts, vacation time.

    Cons

Very low payroll, poor support from corporate level senior management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Pep Boys full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay, promotions for hard work, okay benefits, five-day work week and bonuses that are attainable.

    Cons

Long hours for managers, high-stress environment, constantly changing policies and unstable financially

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put a focus on stable policies and allow them to grow and spread through the company before abruptly changing them. Mandate managers take two consecutive days off per week, no more split days, to help with rest. Stop being open on nearly every holiday and threatening to be open on the ones you're currently closed on. If your shops are open on a holiday, then your home office should be open and the CEO himself should be at work too. Increase the pay for managers and institute a monthly commission check for managers too.
