New Company with old, closed minded mid-level management with no desireable skills.

I have been working at Pepco Holdings full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good benefits and opportunity to create a desirable work-life balance (within the right departement).

    Cons

Mid-level management is close minded, very difficult to advance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more managers with better, more advanced skills. Provide opportunities for current employees to shine and advance within the company and create a pathway for the college graduates in the company use the degree you (Pepco) funded.

    Pros

Great educational benefits, great environment if you are associated with certain groups within the company. Great place for a young person who is willing to dedicate a few years to learn about the utility business and advance their formal education at no cost.

    Cons

Large utility with antiquated management. Company culture slightly changing to appreciate younger talent. You won't get high tech high pressure jobs here.

    Pros

Some good people there. Good place to work and retire.

    Cons

Too many meetings, too many locations, too many people in charge that don't know what they are doing and are put there based on who they know, not what they know.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the good people who know their job and reward them.

I have been working at Pepco Holdings full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Pepco provide good benefits. It's one of the few companies in US still has employee pension plan. It also has 10 holidays. For employee work more than 30 years, they can get up to six weeks vacation.

    Cons

As job is stable in Pepco, employees here also lack of incentives to achieve suprior performance. I am not too impressed by most people here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should have a fair system set up to promote employee based on their actual performance not on their seniority.
