I worked at Perkins Restaurant and Bakery full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent money without much tax deduction. Easy to work around schedule.

    Cons

Can easily make more money elsewhere as a waitress. Working with the public can always be challenging, especially when they are hungry on a busy day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Strive for better benefits for staffing.

I have been working at Perkins Restaurant and Bakery part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

You can make just as much money on one Sunday morning here as a minimum wage employee makes in 20 hours elsewhere. It has provided me with the ability to work, go to school, and still have fun. Overall, my coworkers are friendly and welcoming. I've had about a 50/50 experience with store level management. Regular customers can be very friendly. Plenty of opportunity to take on multiple responsibilities (serve, host, bake, cook..) and move up (certified trainer, service lead, management...) if you desire.

    Cons

Customers can be crazy, whether they're regulars or one time visitors. Side work can be gross and take a while if it isn't regularly taken care of. Many servers do know what they can get away with skipping and race to get out once they're cut. I'm sure that's standard for any restaurant though. Serving is a physical job that gets very tiring.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure you check EVERYONE's side work, even the employees that have been there for years.

    Pros

As a server, you make great money and see lots of different kind of people. The staff that you work with varies as turnover in restaurants is typically high.

    Cons

Long hours often with random breaks as you take them to match business flow. As with all customer service jobs, occasionally have to deal with people who think you are beneath them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of those who take care of your customers. It goes a long way towards keeping good staff.

    Pros

Great people, plenty of hours, great management.

    Cons

Only cook for several hours at a time, long work hours, burned out too easily.

    Pros

Strong management. Low turnover. They really try to create a strong team at each store unit level. If you work hard, you can move up relatively fast.

    Cons

They really need to remodel a number of the locations and update the brand. It's dated and past its prime. While it is a good company to move up in while you are young, it isn't a company you want to work for in the long term.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Update the image and concept of the brand.

I have been working at Perkins Restaurant and Bakery part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The food discounts. Flexible hours for a college kid. Pay was descent because of returning customers. I like the job. Not a career...but a good job to get a foundation in the service industry.

    Cons

The owner would come in and mess with us trying to run things, but just became confused and it was more funny than anything. Some of the employees were a little questionable when it came to service. Sometimes not friendly and a gossip circle.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More fun events or incentives to keep us motivated. I like the $$. Give better areas to better servers, not just based on tenure..

Competent, well managed company with friendly people to work with.

    Cons

Low pay for the positions in comparison to other companies.

Former Employee - Server in Forked River, NJ

I worked at Perkins Restaurant and Bakery part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

It was a new store opening, so the training was very thorough. The training staff was also extremely up-beat and encouraging.

    Cons

The specials were so cheap it was nearly impossible to have a worthwhile day in tips. A lot of servers were also fired within the first week or two for silly things such as not wearing black socks, or trying to sign into their shift a minute early.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep an eye on servers not claiming their tips. I watched employees walk out with $50 in tips and still get a full paycheck to meet the minimum wage requirements.

    Pros

Amazing having a place where employees can come on here and say their stores were dirty...yet the next employee doesnt think they should have scrub or clean anything .....gotta love it.

    Cons

I have no cons all rest are the same different people . We choose where we are and can create a shift to be whatever we need it to be . I work for another company .
