Original Penguin is a great company to work with if you don't care to move up.

Key Holder (Former Employee) Houston, TX

ProsThe best part about working at The Original Penguin was the manager. Great person and great management skills. The employees all got along which was another plus. Promotions were great which drove consumers into the store.

ConsChallenges were the false promises from the company of bonuses. The company orients everything around driving sales and to do so they make everything a game. Which every employee reaches the goal wins a certain amount of money which never was given to us.

Advice to Senior ManagementFrom what I hear all the upper management has been removed and all the unnecessary drama has disappeared which was definitely what was needed for the company.

    PERY

    Designer (Former Employee) Miami, FL

Prosstable job and income, good benefits and perks. looks good on resume.

Consnot exciting, no room for growth, upper management is unqualified and outdated, micro management from senior and director positions. After HR works with you during your initial hire you will never hear from them again. They don't take surveys or see if you are happy in your current position. They don't plan potential career growth within the company.

Advice to Senior Managementkeep your top talent! if they want to leave, find out why. bring in young, fresh new talent. especially in your MIS and Marketing department. unqualified employees go unnoticed, do anonymous surveys to get feedback about peers and track work productivity of those who are flagged. setup reward system for those who exceed expectations.

ConsThey don't promote within, they rather hire from the outside.

Great learning experience and amazing teamwork.

Associate Technical Designer (Former Employee) New York, NY

ProsI learned lot of new technology. My teammates were very nice and helpful. Our procedures made since and there was an open door policy allowing us to voice our concerns comfortably.

ConsBad Planning. I should have been hired as a freelancer.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease continue to be an amazing manager.

I worked as an intern here and found the responsibilities not challenging at all.

Merchandise (Former Employee) New York, NY

ProsMy team was super friendly, co-operative and understanding.

ConsThey demand too many changes in work processes under too little time. Also, there is a bit of work politics.

Advice to Senior ManagementThey should be less autocratic & provide more freedom in the decision-making process.

Great to start off, then move on.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThere is a sense of community and family-driven environment in most departments. If you work in Miami offices, be prepare to speak and learn some Spanish, and feel proud of the heritage.

ConsPart of management could be very old school. More sales driven than anything else. Not the best environment for creative minds.

Advice to Senior ManagementAs an apparel organization, it needs to accommodate better their creative talented associates, and make sure this culture translates into all departments. Creative people need to work in the right place to make the most out of their talent.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsExperience in large company is great! Useful ERP systems such as Oracle and Business Objects. Health benefits are OK. Work life balance is good.

ConsManagement seems to struggle. Daily duties can become redundant and boring.

Advice to Senior ManagementAdd job enrichment programs to enhance value of employee. This will allow more satisfied employees who gain more knowledge in workplace.

    Sale Associate

    Sales Associate (Current Employee)

ProsGreat Clothes, Great Environment, Co workers are always friendly

ConsNo increase in wage after 18 months plus, over worked on weekends or days that are busy, company tries to save money buy having as few employees on the same day causing a bottleneck effect

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to spend money to make money, good employees leave your company because they would rather risk it and let them leave and hire a clueless duck, management needs more structure company more organization years behind, outlet clothes can be found in full retail and specialized stores. Whats the whole point of having products that are "exlclusive full retail" when they can be found cheap in an outlet a week later or a week before? The way the store has to be set up is not all the same unlike more structured companies which provide what they want to see exactly in the store in this company you have to kind of guess what they want. If management does not like it then they ask it to be done in a certain way, well why not state it clearly in english this is how we want it not this is direction you should go on. Perry Ellis has lots of potential good clothes for good money its not expensive and its economical and it has quality but people have got comfortable in Corporate and Management that it does not progress its stuck in a rut where they think money pinching works and their responsibilities are not taken seriously to better their own company

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
