    Pros

If you have a pet, it is a good environment for you and your pet. You can take advantage of the many services the store has to offer. Corporate is also very good at providing perks to employers and treating them well, such as designated days for double associate discount day.

    Cons

There is often little consistency from manager to manager as far as guidelines.

    Advice to Management

A little more consistency amongst whole management team, especially with communicating to associates. Overall better communication.

    Pros

You meet great dogs and become an expert in dog behavior/body language. Awesome hotel manager. There are a variety of tasks to do so you aren't just doing the same boring thing all the time. Opportunities to move up as they open new branches.

    Cons

Getting bitten by dogs. Crazy pet parents. If someone isn't pulling their weight it creates more work for you.

    Advice to Management

Sometimes the amount of work that is expected to get done with the number of people scheduled is not realistic. Where do you expect us to cut corners?

    Pros

Really almost everything at my job is great! Good pay (commission), work atmosphere is great (salon) and everything is fair. My only complaint is in the cons section.

    Cons

Only bad thing I can say is that I have notice PetSmart has a problem with firing people. I have worked at two PetSmarts and I am not sure if it is a fear of the confrontation or the fear of discrimination, but there is employees that need to go for things that should not be over looked!

    Advice to Management

Please weed out the bad! Other than that great job, you have managed to have a well rounded store! Great feedback is always welcome and making sure rules are followed even after a few months when the newness of rules wear off.

    Pros

A great, fun working enviornment where teamwork is a priority. There is excellent compensation (most stylists in this salon earn between $35,000 and 60,000 a year), great benefits, and support from both the salon manager (who has a TON of experience and has been with the company over 15 years) and the managers in the store. I like the flexibility of being able to transfer to another petsmart if I ever want or need to move to another state also.

    Cons

There is a lot to do, and a Full time receptionist would be nice and seemingly more efficient. Also, working weekends and holidays is tough, but it IS retail!

    Advice to Management

I would like to see some sort of advancement opportunity for Salon Managers other than Academy Trainer. Seems like my salon manager is stuck in her job with no where to advance, and since she has been in that position for what seems like forever, that doesnt give me the opportunity to advance to her job!

  6. Reasonable pay for a part-time job (close to $9/hr), great management, a lot of room for learning!

    Pros

Great pay for a part-time job, close to $9/hr. Great management Great policies Inter-working with all departments Opening in Pet Care is like feeding time at a mini-zoo. Getting to know customers and their pets on a personal level makes their shopping (and your working) experience MUCH easier, and fun! Pets come first! Pet Parent's questions and understanding of problems that are occurring in their fish tanks, or training new puppies, or how to keep reptiles are always important. It feels great to, for example, help someone out who had been previously killing all their fish because of a silly mistake (cleaning the aquarium entirely for water changes- very common).

    Cons

Dealing with death. It happens, you have to get used to it. Mostly fish and crickets, than anything else. Opening in Pet Care is like feeding time at a mini-zoo. - Also sometimes a Con. Refilling hay-balls for both guinea pigs AND birds. Guineas constantly go through it, and birds will pull most of it out onto the bottom of their cage! Dealing with costumers who think adding 20 fish to a brand new 10 gallon tank all at once is a good idea, even if you warn them, they can still be persistent (and sometimes condescending).

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work for SOME PetSmart locations. Others on the other hand REALLY NEED TO WORK ON IT!!

    Pros

Great environment, management was fantastic. Competitive, fun, most employees are really talented.

    Cons

It can get catty sometimes as it is a commission based job so be ready to put up a fight for customers if it gets slow. Noticeable drop in customer volume after Oct. 2008. It is starting to go back up a little. High turnover rate if you can't handle stress. However you can make really good money if you are a "power groomer". Just be ready to work your little bum off. :)

    Advice to Management

I LOVE you guys!! Great Company :)

    Pros

    - Around different types of animals the entire time. - Great employees and friendships made. - Fun, laid back environment.

    Cons

    - Low pay. - Minimal hours. - Very repetitive work. - Very low raises during raise periods.

    Advice to Management

Have more people out on the floor so it doesn't interfere with customer service at the register.

    Pros

Amazing job. I loved it! The people I worked with were great, and the management was VERY easy to talk to. There was ALWAYS something to do there, and it was a very laid back job. It's great to learn things on the spot, and it makes you feel good when someone comes up to you to ask something, and BOOM, you know the answer and you can provide additional information to them if need be. Management was great, but it wasn't the best. I can't complain about them though. If you are in high school, or just needing a job for some money, GO here. It's great! They would have some people call in sick, and when they called me, I ALWAYS said YES. I've even came on christmas eve, to help a manager and another associate feed the animals and fish. The store is clean and ALWAYS friendly!

    Cons

Although stocking shelves can be easy, the small cat food cans, you know the ones that ALL look the same except some tiny detail, are all messed up from customers, and it's a pain to put them back in the right place. Also sometimes it's really hectic; like when a new shipment of stock comes in, it's a small stocking room in the back, and you would get like 20 crates. Also when you give advice to some customers, they seem to want to hear what they wanted, and if it's not what they wanted to hear, they just ignore you; like when you offer them a great kind of pet food, rather than the one they are using.

    Advice to Management

Sometimes you guys play favorites. I'd rather you give respect and hours to people who deserve it, and instead of people you like, on a personal level. I worked my ass off. Literally. I would be constantly doing things and making the store better, the best that I could. And I had my hours cut, and given to someone else. Didn't feel right to me. Not at all.
