    Was Great!!!

    Bather (Former Employee) Pearland, TX

ProsNice employees, managers, actually cared, clean store, I loved working with the animals. The customers were nice and the pay was ok.

ConsThe training was to long, not enough hours for good paycheck. I really don't have anything bad to say about them.

    I loved Petsmart!

    Cashier/Bather (Former Employee) Fairlawn, OH

ProsPetsmart was a wonderful job. The customers were very friendly and I enjoyed being around the animals. The pay was also decent for my first job at 16.

ConsIf you change your availability even once there, they will immediately cut your hours in half. This is why I had to leave.

Pet Care Manager (Former Employee) Orlando, FL

ProsDo what you love to do and that is interact with pets and their owners. The people are wonderful and the animals are all special.

ConsSome dogs are feisty but that comes with the territory.

Advice to Senior ManagementLove what you do and it will never be work! Keep finding others that LOVE their job.

A decent job but as sometimes happens in retail, not enough supporting hourly help.

Assistant Manager (Current Employee) Durham, NC

ProsInteracting with the customers and their pets. Having customers be satisfied by finding unique toys and clothes for their pets.

ConsWe never seemed to have enough sales associats to effectively meet company guidelines and standards. We chased our tails frequently.

Advice to Senior ManagementReduce costs outside of slashing payroll. Especially during peak hours.

    Great place to work!

    Cashier (Former Employee) Littleton, CO

ProsI love animals, so that made it a great place to work. Obviously if you do not like handling/ interacting with animals, this is not the job for you. If you love them though you will love this job. They are very fair with pay and employees receive regular raises. The training is good and customers are generally really nice. The store tends to attract animal lovers (obviously) as customers who are generally friendly and love talking about their pets and shopping in a pet friendly environment. The training is good and there are opportunities to move to different departments and "up" if you want. The company is also good at promoting good values and supporting charity.

ConsWhile it is great for a retail environment, it is still retail. You will have cranky customers occasionally (though less then most places). Like any retail, this is probably not a place to make a career but it is great if you like me just need a firs time job in high school (although now I think you need to be 18) or are looking for work while going through college. There are opportunities to go into dog training or grooming with the company's help with training through if you are looking for more of a carrier position.

Advice to Senior ManagementLess favoritism in promoting

    Lovely

Pet Care Specialist (Former Employee) Sand City, CA

ProsThe pay was decent for an entry-level position, the management worked with me for good hours and showed appreciation for me. Most customers were happy to be there and enjoyed sharing stories about their pets. Earned vacation time as a part time employee!

ConsSome of the lower-level managers didn't care at all and were not well trained and would sit in the office avoiding customers or calls for assistance.

Advice to Senior ManagementOffer employees a way to anonymously submit reviews of their peers, managers and coworkers.

A fast-paced environment made fun by the coworkers and customers alike.

    Cashier/Stock (Current Employee) Marysville, WA

ProsSome of the best reasons that I've noticed for working here are the experience with animals, the people, and the overall environment. There are some small rewards, but I consider the best to be surrounded by animals.

ConsSome of the challenges may come from the customers or the struggles in keeping so many animals healthy. Some customers are so passionate that they may get nasty when you don't immediately understand their situation intimately. Health concerns with the pets are typically handled by managers, but some associates may need to have a helping hand in getting the little critters healthy again.

Advice to Senior ManagementThings, in the time I have been there, have been a bit chaotic. The store manager changed and another manager stepped down from his position, causing a shift in pecking order a bit. Because of all of the moving around, I've been with the company for near a year, but haven't had my 6 month review or year review quite yet. Granted, I understand they have all been busy, so I'm not going to rush things.

    Good Place to Start Off

Lead Pet Care Specialist (Former Employee) Mount Pleasant, MI

ProsIt appears they really care about their employees. Nice perks you can sign up for even if you are only part-time. Good raises to start off with for the 1st year. A lot of training videos that basically sum up everything you already know, but it is nice as a refresher on some things. A great chance to grow within the company. Management tends to be very helpful and realize that we're human and mistakes do happen so you aren't always afraid to be fired.

ConsThe rules can occasionally protect employees that shouldn't be there as long as they are. The training videos can be a hassle at times. Sometimes it seems like they change policies only to go back to how it was after a couple weeks/months.

Advice to Senior ManagementThey do a pretty good job of trying to get reviews and advice from the employees. Keep it up.
