I have been working at PetSmart part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    15% discount
    Monthly coupons
Get to talk about pets with people all day
Get to *meet* people's pets, particularly dogs, throughout the day
Constant continuing education in terms of animal and pet care/habits/health
    Fun coworkers
Corporate actually seems to give a hoot
    Seldom bored
Usually close to places to eat/get lunch
Get to handle/meet the animals as they come in
Adopts out thousands of homeless cats and dogs!

    Cons

Sometimes a little too much pressure, particularly on heavy-customer days
Sometimes management is a little bossy (more than normal, I mean)
Dangerous cleaning chemicals - don't get it on you!
Typical demanding, unreasonable, jerkwad customers periodically
    Constantly on feet

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to understand that employees don't need to have you a.) hovering all the time and b.) barking orders at them. Give them direction, and they'll perform. Trust your employees - otherwise, why'd you hire them?!

A decent job but as sometimes happens in retail, not enough supporting hourly help.

I have been working at PetSmart full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Interacting with the customers and their pets. Having customers be satisfied by finding unique toys and clothes for their pets.

    Cons

We never seemed to have enough sales associats to effectively meet company guidelines and standards. We chased our tails frequently.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reduce costs outside of slashing payroll. Especially during peak hours.

    Pros

Nice employees, managers, actually cared, clean store, I loved working with the animals. The customers were nice and the pay was ok.

    Cons

The training was to long, not enough hours for good paycheck. I really don't have anything bad to say about them.

    Pros

Petsmart was a wonderful job. The customers were very friendly and I enjoyed being around the animals. The pay was also decent for my first job at 16.

    Cons

If you change your availability even once there, they will immediately cut your hours in half. This is why I had to leave.

I worked at PetSmart part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I love animals, so that made it a great place to work. Obviously if you do not like handling/ interacting with animals, this is not the job for you. If you love them though you will love this job. They are very fair with pay and employees receive regular raises. The training is good and customers are generally really nice. The store tends to attract animal lovers (obviously) as customers who are generally friendly and love talking about their pets and shopping in a pet friendly environment. The training is good and there are opportunities to move to different departments and "up" if you want. The company is also good at promoting good values and supporting charity.

    Cons

While it is great for a retail environment, it is still retail. You will have cranky customers occasionally (though less then most places). Like any retail, this is probably not a place to make a career but it is great if you like me just need a firs time job in high school (although now I think you need to be 18) or are looking for work while going through college. There are opportunities to go into dog training or grooming with the company's help with training through if you are looking for more of a carrier position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at PetSmart part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The pay was decent for an entry-level position, the management worked with me for good hours and showed appreciation for me. Most customers were happy to be there and enjoyed sharing stories about their pets. Earned vacation time as a part time employee!

    Cons

Some of the lower-level managers didn't care at all and were not well trained and would sit in the office avoiding customers or calls for assistance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer employees a way to anonymously submit reviews of their peers, managers and coworkers.
