I worked at Petco full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

I could bring my dogs to work. Most of the people with whom I worked on a daily basis were great people.

    Cons

Too much middle and upper management, far too many Vice Presidents.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There seemed to be too much focus on advancing to the VP level and far too many new hires were brought in as VPs creating a "too many chiefs" atmosphere.

I worked at Petco full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Fun environment, good co-workers. Plenty of opportunities to learn new skills.

    Cons

Upper management relies on their "team of experts" to make decisions regarding the animals in the store. They are not willing to listen to the people who know what they are doing and interact with the customers and the animals on a regular basis.

I have been working at Petco part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Nice co-workers, fun environment, flexible hours - it really is a joy to go to work every day.

    Cons

There is always a lack of enough staff to complete tasks in a satisfactory manner. It seems like we are always fighting to keep things up to par.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If there were more staff on the floor, it would increase sales.

I have been working at Petco full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Fun atmosphere for the animal lover and getting to interact with animals while your work

    Cons

Heavy tasking, with very little payroll.
Lots of cleaning up after animals. they are fun to play with, but its not as much fun to have to clean cages and habitats every single day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Seems like the people that make the important decisions at the company have never worked in the store to see how things actually run.
Need more payroll, and drastically reduce the amount of tasking.

I worked at Petco part-time for less than a year

    Pros

    -Working with animals
    -Learning about animals

I got the job because there was a new Petco opening up in town. The interview was one on one, the training was pretty long.

    Cons

    -the animals smell bad
    -cleaning dirty animal cages
    -getting bitten by animals
-not enough pay for the gross work you do (a little bit more than minimum wage)
    -catching live crickets

You don't have a set schedule, so it can change every week. Eventually I quit this job because I couldn't stand cleaning the animal cages, etc anymore. I wouldn't go back unless they paid me a lot more.

I worked at Petco full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Petco pay is decent, good insurance, and it's rewarding if you love animals. The hours are reasonable, most stores open and close at 9.

    Cons

Typical corporate attitudes, new programs without labor hours to back them up. They care more about the pets and their customers than they do about their employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to be the best, give the stores the hours to do the job. Also, rethink some of your policies. They are favorable to dishonest customers but you fire honest employees for making one mistake.
