    Competitive

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThere are a lot of very talented people in the organization to learn a lot from. Summer Fridays are a plus too.

ConsThose very talented people can at times become a little too competitive which may may hinder progress. Politics per usual.

ProsSalary, benefits, people, the best equipment

ConsThere were 3 major overhauls/layoffs in the 1 year I worked here. Too much time spent on meetings and not enough on the science

    Scary

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGreat pay. Good people. Interesting work.

ConsYou never know when you might lose your job. They are slowly taking away all of the benefits that would keep employees. Too scary anymore.

Advice to Senior ManagementSTOP!!! Have faith in YOUR research to come up with good drugs. Stop buying up the world to fill the void then pfiring (see what I did there) everyone to get the costs back down. Allow your staff to feel safe in their job and they will work their butts off for you.... make them nervous and this is what you get.

Experience with good research and great colleagues damaged by frequent restructuring, changing priorities and M&A .

    Senior Scientist (Former Employee)
    Groton, CT

ProsI was a scientist at the bench who found lots of challenge, personally fulfilling research and excellent resources (equipment budget, reagents) for work. My immediate colleagues were great co-workers with a sense of team.

ConsDeveloping a product that requires several years to market is impossible with when reprioritizing, restructuring and site closures occur every six months. There was churn in the personnel in upper management and there was lack of clarity of research goals in middle management. There was little opportunity for career growth for scientists within the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementPick a strategy and leadership team. Then stick with it for several years. Otherwise it's impossible to tell what the 'results' of the strategy are. If workers report that their management is erratic or ineffective, listen those comments and take action.

ProsSummer Fridays and flexible work schedules. Good 401K match

ConsNo organic growth. Financial engineering is a must. Cuts and stock buy back.

Well paid, but a part in a machine

    Associate Director (Current Employee)
    Groton, CT

ProsWorking at Pfizer was not stressful, reasonable hours, not a lot of pressure to accomplish something every single day

ConsBecause there wasn't a lot of pressure, if you wanted to actually move fast and accomplish something, it was hard.

Advice to Senior ManagementTypical big corporation where someone who happened to be in the right place at the right time would get promoted. But not necessarily because they were particularly good at their job. This hinders the respect they have from subordinates and limits the subordinates development.

My department is fantastic; overall company leadership is uneven

    Senior Principal Scientist (Current Employee)
    Boston, MA

ProsMy department is fantastic... we do good science and we have the resources to do technology development at a level that I probably wouldn't have the opportunity to do at very many other companies.

ConsThe company doesn't know what it wants to look like and this leads to zigging and zagging, inconsistent strategies, and disruptive reorganizations/relocations/etc. Are we getting bigger doing a megamerger and trying to diversify? Are we getting smaller by spinning off to become "focused" on our "core"? Whatever it is this year, 1-2 years from now it will be an about face.
