I worked at Pharmacyclics full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    - My direct manager was amazing
    - Colleagues are friendly and outgoing
    - Benefits for full-time employees are increasing

    Cons

    - OVERWORKED
    - Company does not have reasonable goals
    - Upper management does not understand how much work their expectations take to complete
    - Not enough compensation
    - It's a dog eat dog world here...
    - Not enough pyramid structure for management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management should stand up for their employees instead of just faring for themselves. Sure, everyone is selfish, but that philosophy seems to be magnetized at this company.

I worked at Pharmacyclics full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It's been established that there really aren't any pros

    Cons

Culture, training, professionalism. More talented people continue to leave this company. It's really a shame that leadership is unable to conduct themselves in a professional manner across the board. Company philosophy is a great fit for the middle east. Maybe they should move their head office over there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop driving away your talent. Better yet, sell the company to J&J so that reputable people can run it.

I have been working at Pharmacyclics

    Pros

Ibrutinib turned out to be an incredible product for patients suffering from MCL/CLL

    Cons

Sadly, the 1 and 2 star comments are true. I’ve been here for over 3 years and I’m consistently disappointed with how senior management runs the company. They seethe with disrespect and bully tactics across the board. In the last month, we’ve lost some of the most talented people I know. The same people who helped run the studies and bring the drug to market and those that work with the sales teams. It baffles me that no attempt was made to keep such incredible talent. Promotions are based on favoritism and whether or not you are the “flavor” of the week. You will be expected to work 24/7 or you won’t be treated with any respect and considered “lazy”. A title from this company won’t prepare you for any other Pharma b/c senior management won’t allow you to function independently. If you wonder why I stay it’s b/c my stock is not yet fully vested and I came in early enough to make some real $. Remodeled my house etc. etc.
If you are looking to join PCYC, once your honeymoon days are over, you will be completely disappointed with what you got in to.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The Board of Directors need to do something. While the CEO may have been able to run several companies well during his career, the emotionally immature team immediately under him needs to be dealt with quickly.

I have been working at Pharmacyclics full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Imbruvica is a great drug, and it is an honor for me to work toward getting it into the hands of as many patients as possible.

    Cons

None of the people that had anything to do with the development of Imbruvica are still here. They were either fired indiscriminately by upper management, or quit on their own. What remains is a mediocre sales organization with some clinical folks to monitor the ongoing trials. As such, Pharmacyclics cannot be considered to be a serious long-term company and will not attract top talent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It is time for the CEO and especially the COO to be replaced with serious pharma/biotech executives. Only in this way will Pharmacyclics be able to attract and retain top talent. How the COO got her current position is beyond me. As far as I can tell, she has no idea what Imbruvica is, or how it works. The other V.P.s are Yes-men sycophants that stay there presumably to allow their stock options to vest. None of this will change until the CEO and COO step aside for the good of the company.

I have been working at Pharmacyclics full-time

    Pros

    stock, good work location .

    Cons

Poor management (the person on top listens to the louder lead from below and has no idea on the true reality of the work place or who really puts down the labor and to what extent), the loud ones go far and yet provides the least labor, poor work philosophy (it's not about working hard and long hours, it's about working smart-the CEO is wrong there), poor poor work-life balance (you become a slave to pharmacyclics, work long hours way after the normal work shifts and weekends). Believe in the other reviews for pharmacyclics (no work-life balance).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

HR benefits and Payroll depts need a lot of improvement. They are not helpful and do the bare minimum, appear lazy. The higher ups are power driven and cocky, it doesn't hurt to smile sometimes at the ones downstair. CEO should make a presence during orientation to welcome (CEO doesn't care about his employees). It's very segregated between the higher ups and the rest of the employees. It's also very segregated among the departments and within internal departments as well. It's not a friendly environment here.
I wish I didn't feel this way. I really want to like this place.
