    I worked at Physio-Control full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

A good Company to work for.

    Cons

Somewhat trigger happy when someone makes a mistake probably due to their past difficulties with the FDA.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Mistakes captured internally due to unclear procedures and improper training should be used as an opportunity to improve the system and not to reduce head count.

    I worked at Physio-Control full-time

    Pros

Loved my job. It offered a lot of challenge. Never boring. Company gave a lot of perks. Loved the inspirational stories of lives that were saved.

    Cons

Disorganized. Not a lot of training. Unfortunately I didn't get much of a chance to know the business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Organization. Business has so much potential but the management needs to understand organization from the ground up.

I worked at Physio-Control as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

The best part working there is learning about the product and how much it is so much needed globally.

    Cons

Being a contract worker you do not have a chance to embed your self and acquire the values of the company

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep outstanding people to help improve your ebitda. Long term Goals are most important, and when budget is questioned, one must look at the whole picture to see if the current situation will get better.

I worked at Physio-Control as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

People seemed fired up to work there. I enjoyed having the assembly line in the bottom floor; it was neat stuff was made on site.

    Cons

How many different ways can you talk about heart defibrillators? It got kind of boring after a while.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They seemed to have good folks in charge. As an intern i asked to meet with senior executives, and they took the time to have lunch with me which was nice.

I worked at Physio-Control as a contractor (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great life-saving products, good benefits, part-time opportunities sometimes available for good work-life balance, good people.

    Cons

Upper management is insincere and does not want to hear reality, looking out for themselves and not running a professional, progressive, quality-driven business. Staffed very lean with constantly changing priorities, making it difficult to successfully see projects through to completion. Lack of accountability, don't develop their best people, don't promote or hire managers based on people-skills and ability to manage and inspire others, but rather on ability to give and receive marching orders.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in the people more than in building the management levels.

I have been working at Physio-Control full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

We make high quality, market-leading life-saving medical devices. Saving lives is always a good business to be in. I'm proud of the products we make.

    Cons

way too top-heavy executive management. huge disconnect between the "business end" esp marketing/finance (the people who get in the way) and the product development and operations side of things (the people who actually do things). literally, the two groups are separated into two different buildings, it's like two different worlds. It's gotten steadily worse since we were bought by Bain Financial and emphasis has been shifted to bottom line financials.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Finance and IT is an unmitigated disaster. Oh wait, Finance runs IT. yeah, Finance is a disaster, starting and ending at the VP. I would give this company a LOT lower ratings, but I believe in the products we make. Being bought by Bain, and having our benefits cut, then being told how awesome our new benefits are, that was a real sh1t sandwich.

    I worked at Physio-Control full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Nice campus. Good benefits. If you are lucky enough to have one of the few good managers, you will have a great experience at Physio.

    Cons

Too many executives - way too many. Too few leaders. Physio's support functions - Finance, HR, IT - have imploded due to poor staffing and leadership. You can't depend on any of those departments to provide services. Extremely high turnover in Finance and HR.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start leading. Fix internal problems and stabilize the company.

I have been working at Physio-Control full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Products make a worthwhile contribution to society.
Locker rooms and fitness center on site.
    Compensation seems fair.
    PTO plan is good.

    Cons

Too many managers. I think there might be more vice presidents than there are electrical engineers.
Company has no idea how to innovate. Products are all "me too" products.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get lean and mean. Thin out the management ranks boost the number of workers producing a tangible output.
Be realistic. Set goals that can actually be accomplished and reward people for accomplishing them.
Take a long term view of success.

    Pros

Their products save lives every day.
Salaries are not bad, but promotions are slow in coming, even with great performance reviews.
    Recently upgraded work environment.

    Cons

    Strange organization in R&D.
Management doesn't understand overhead incurred managing outsourced resources.
They could learn to treat good vendors better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust the people you've hired because of their expertise to do the right things.
