    It's medical...everything is slow

    Intern (Former Employee)
    Redmond, WA

ProsPeople seemed fired up to work there. I enjoyed having the assembly line in the bottom floor; it was neat stuff was made on site.

ConsHow many different ways can you talk about heart defibrillators? It got kind of boring after a while.

Advice to Senior ManagementThey seemed to have good folks in charge. As an intern i asked to meet with senior executives, and they took the time to have lunch with me which was nice.

    Great product, horrible management

    Manufacturing Engineer (Former Employee)
    Redmond, WA

ProsGreat life-saving products, good benefits, part-time opportunities sometimes available for good work-life balance, good people.

ConsUpper management is insincere and does not want to hear reality, looking out for themselves and not running a professional, progressive, quality-driven business. Staffed very lean with constantly changing priorities, making it difficult to successfully see projects through to completion. Lack of accountability, don't develop their best people, don't promote or hire managers based on people-skills and ability to manage and inspire others, but rather on ability to give and receive marching orders.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in the people more than in building the management levels.

I've been an engineer at Physio Control for several years, unfortunately the environment has gotten worse

    Engineer (Current Employee)
    Redmond, WA

ProsWe make high quality, market-leading life-saving medical devices. Saving lives is always a good business to be in. I'm proud of the products we make.

Consway too top-heavy executive management. huge disconnect between the "business end" esp marketing/finance (the people who get in the way) and the product development and operations side of things (the people who actually do things). literally, the two groups are separated into two different buildings, it's like two different worlds. It's gotten steadily worse since we were bought by Bain Financial and emphasis has been shifted to bottom line financials.

Advice to Senior ManagementFinance and IT is an unmitigated disaster. Oh wait, Finance runs IT. yeah, Finance is a disaster, starting and ending at the VP. I would give this company a LOT lower ratings, but I believe in the products we make. Being bought by Bain, and having our benefits cut, then being told how awesome our new benefits are, that was a real sh1t sandwich.

Great mission. Good people. Poor leadership.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Redmond, WA

ProsNice campus. Good benefits. If you are lucky enough to have one of the few good managers, you will have a great experience at Physio.

ConsToo many executives - way too many. Too few leaders. Physio's support functions - Finance, HR, IT - have imploded due to poor staffing and leadership. You can't depend on any of those departments to provide services. Extremely high turnover in Finance and HR.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart leading. Fix internal problems and stabilize the company.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Long Time Employee

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsProducts make a worthwhile contribution to society.
Locker rooms and fitness center on site.
    Compensation seems fair.
    PTO plan is good.

ConsToo many managers. I think there might be more vice presidents than there are electrical engineers.
Company has no idea how to innovate. Products are all "me too" products.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet lean and mean. Thin out the management ranks boost the number of workers producing a tangible output.
Be realistic. Set goals that can actually be accomplished and reward people for accomplishing them.
Take a long term view of success.

    Manufacturer of life-saving medical products

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsTheir products save lives every day.
Salaries are not bad, but promotions are slow in coming, even with great performance reviews.
    Recently upgraded work environment.

    ConsStrange organization in R&D.
Management doesn't understand overhead incurred managing outsourced resources.
They could learn to treat good vendors better.

Advice to Senior ManagementTrust the people you've hired because of their expertise to do the right things.

Company is growing its own identity

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Redmond, WA

ProsGood people, who want to work hard and a great product.

ConsManagement is too big picture and not enough spent on upgrades to systems to bring the company to the 21st century. Can never be world class with systems from the 1980. Customers expect more, even if management doesn't want to pay for it.

Advice to Senior ManagementWith all the people leaving the company it should be a wake up call that you need to invest in the system and your people.

    Getting better

    Supplier Quality Engineer (Former Employee)
    Redmond, WA

ProsPhysio Control has had its ups and downs but seems to be getting their acto together. Senior company management seems competent but senior quality management is a joke.
Ok working environment, basically an average place to work.

ConsWithin the quality group, people are treated like dirt. Very high turnover rate. Physio is an FDA target for good reason.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire better management in the quality group. Watch out for risky acquisitions.

Challenging job but for all the wrong reasons.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Redmond, WA

ProsNice campus and good location for those who live on the Eastside. They provided good medical benifits for you and your family.

ConsPayrate was below average for the area. Management lacked a clear and realistic long-term strategic vision for the company. There was a lot of politics and the company seemed to be stuck in the early 90's.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on hiring AND promoting the right people for the right jobs not just hiring and promoting individuals because it's conveinent.
