I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I just started so I'm not too familiar with the company, but you get an employee discount. They are also pretty flexible with your schedule and are willing to give you more hours if you will be flexible too.

    Cons

The store is a little bit overwhelming with all of the items in there. You also have to move heavy furniture around which can be hard if you are out of shape.

    Advice to Management

I don't really have any advice. The people I work with are very nice and really good at training their employees. There isn't any issues between employees at my location.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The people I work with there are awesome. The customers that come in are great too. Shortened hours for being on your feet a lot is a plus.

    Cons

Upper Management such as regionals don't have common sense. To make way in upper management, I think it should be a consideration to hire within the stores and move people up. Just because they would understand how the store works. You may want to think about purchasing shoe inserts. My feet ache a lot and I have developed feet and back problems. Some of the stores need bigger areas for space. Over the years I feel like Pier 1 has more to offer, its disappointing that we don't have enough space for everything. Especially our stock room, there is barely any room to move and it is hazardous. Ballwin needs another location to thrive. We would have more business if we had the room. Cant have over a certain amount of hours if part time. I believe the max of hours you can have in a week is 20-24. Have to lift heavy furniture, another reason why I wish we could wear sneakers.

    Advice to Management

Ballwin needs a bigger stock room, might I add; a bigger store. Pier 1 has so many neat things to offer and our store is small. May I mention we need new equipment, such as ladders and a step stool. They are falling apart and hazardous. Would be nice to get those étagères in too. The store looks silly with spots of new displays with old. I am an Interior Designer and it bothers me...bet it bothers the customers too considering some of them are designers. Pier 1 is great but there are some things I wish you would consider.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports (More than a year)

    Pros

Learn how to run a cash register and make online orders. Help a diverse group of customers find the products they desire. Job helps you learn how to address different customers and their needs.

    Cons

Must be available to work a flexible schedule. Company uses flex shifts.

    Pros

Beautiful furniture at a great price point. Easy to sell.

    Cons

A physically challenging job- lots of heavy lifting.

    Advice to Management

Pay scale should be significantly higher based upon the physical and selling expectations. Introduce a commission based selling standard and associates will be more invested.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great discounts on merchandise. Fun to see merchandise come out on the floor. Helpful co-workers. Never boring.

    Cons

Terrible training. No team meetings or real communication efforts. Merchandise is often dirty, damaged, and not tagged. You don't find out rules until you break one.

    Advice to Management

Stop making us push the credit card so much. Tidy up. Train people before tossing them out on the floor. Give people more hours who want them.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The company is a fresh company with some great advantages. The discount is fantastic, learning to decorate is fun, the product is unique, and everyone who knows about Pier 1 loves the store to shop in. Coworkers are exciting, and the pace is always energizing.

    Cons

Pay and hours suck. I have worked for Pier 1 four times over a course of 9 years, being everything from an associate to an assistant manager. Associates have to beg for more than 16 hours, yet are expected to work flex shifts if the company needs them to, without much warning. Currently I am just an associate again, and I barely make 8.90 an hour. When I was an assistant I got good hours and decent pay. Currently begging for more hours, just to be dissapointed by the fact that the store is hiring even more part time associates, even after we all are fussing for more hours. I work 3 four hour shifts this week, and they are hiring 3 more associates.

    Advice to Management

Zoning the store is rediculous. We should all be able to help all customers. Too much daily training and information for associates who are lucky to get more than 2 shifts a week. We spend more time doing training than working. Associates would be more dedicated to the company if we felt valued and were able to invest more than 12 hours a week to the job.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time

    Pros

The atmosphere of Pier 1 is fun and laid back, and schedules are reasonably flexible. Management and fellow employees are like-minded and friendly people.

    Cons

Even as a well-qualified, seasoned employee, being promoted is somewhat of a challenge.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the positivity, it makes employees want to come to work. Also, corrective feedback is very helpful and appreciated.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Fun work environment. Very flexible with my schedule. 25% discount on top of sales and clearance.

    Cons

Like any retail job, no vacation time during the holidays. Require that you take flex shift. Require that you sell credit to customers as part of your job.
