    Pros

Pretty good discount, really liked to seeing all the new stuff and doing the transitions for the store.

    Cons

Extremely pushy with the credit card and customers, no benefits, no hours (wouldn't even get 10 hrs a week). The pay sucked for all that you have to do there. The girls were really rude and management doesn't respect you at all. I'd work until 12:30 AM then have to be in at 7:15 AM the same morning for my next shift. I applied for the permanent sales associate job in June 2014 then in Feb. 2015 told that I was seasonal and that, that was my last day. UNBELIEVABLE. I had no idea.

    Advice to Management

Get decent people working for you.

    Pros

Has great discounts asap. Team mates are nice, store manager is nice . Close to home. Flexible schedule does not ask to work nights

    Cons

Minimum wage is a slap in the face for the culture they portray. Not enough hours, a varied schedule, you never know when you are working. Flex for a whole day. The company shows no respect for minimum wage no breaks for a 4-5 hour shift would be pleasant change and offer some relief for the fiscal part of this job

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to workers. They are your ambassadors of your company, Respect and loyalty has to be felt by them as well

    Pros

The hours are very flexible so it is good for a student. My managers were always nice and willing to work with me.

    Cons

They pay close to minimum wage and will not let any associate more than 20 hours. They won't fire anyone. My coworker came in really drunk and the manager got in trouble for sending her home. Push really hard to sell store credit card.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees better and have a higher standard for employee conduct. Give employees more hours so they can actually survive without a second job.

    Pros

Pretty decent Work / Life balance

    Cons

One of the worst companies I've ever worked with. I was laid off just 8 months after joining the company. And that's not the worst part. I was on a worker's visa and they revoked my visa on the SAME DAY indirectly suggesting me to leave the country. Most IT organizations who recruit candidates with worker visas like HP, IBM, Continental etc have a 30 - day / 60--day visa revocation policy. But hey, Pier 1 apparently wants to abide by the "rules". What a load of crap!!..

Luckily, I was able to talk to my lawyer and get this sorted out pretty quickly. But candidates on a worker's visa, stay away from this company.

    Advice to Management

Learn to follow a better recruitment policy especially with respect to Visa holders otherwise don't recruit at all. Either that or hire better lawyers.

    Pros

Pros are the following: I work part time for a place that is magical and lets my imagination take control. This place allows me to be myself and delve into the inner me to assist people who are coming in and don't know what they are doing. Decorating wise, these people are just lost. But working at a pier 1 allows me to help these people find something and build a sale the personal way...these people that come in are the sweetest people..they want to be treated as a friend, not a commodity...I thought I was getting a job at a place in which you would become the neighborhood/community to-go-to home furnishing store..today I was scolded and given looks by my sales lead, because this woman was telling me about her life story which included an apartment in Brooklyn in which she was renovating. This woman began to open up to me and we established a trust and a friendship. She then stated she was about to spend a bunch of money on re-decorating the inside of the Brooklyn house. The customer saw the sales lead walking by every 1 minute literally and said" why is she looking at you". The sales lead totally freaked out the customer and she said " I don't know what her problem is but I will never be back to this store". She then said "you are a doll, but that woman needs to go". The woman then said "the fragrances I picked up( I sold her on 2 new fragrances) I'll just pay for those and I'm done"

    Cons

The con is in the positive because reading what I wrote should inspire the CEOs mind about what he is doing to the company. If people sold the way I sold and how many normal loving people who work at pier 1 sold , pier 1 would make a lot of money! Let nice people be nice and sell your merchandise naturally we are humans not robots ! If pier 1 wants to make money just let us, te sales associates relax..give us more money we know how much pier 1 makes..really...we do all the work...no breaks for 4 hours. Only if after 5 hours..that's a joke ...conversions are low it's because that's a joke too.. Relax for God sakes ..but this won't matter because what CEO likes to be challenged..

    Advice to Management

    Fight for your associates!!
let's go New York stores are you serious!

    Pros

When I did work in the store the best thing I can say is I had wonderful Managers and coworkers that made my first 5 years bearable.

    Cons

They don't really care about you as an individual. Hard work and loyalty does not get noticed, they rather continue to hire new people. The also don't believe your safety is important when there are ice storms and severe weather ( Tornado, Ice Storms, Flooding). They expect you to come into work or it will count against you. They don't consider Customer Relations apart of Home Office, so any early releases due to these weather concerns don't apply to you.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to value those who are loyal to you. Treat your customers better, from what I learned in Customer Relations its more in

    Pros

Good employee discount. They don't open for business crazy extended hours during holiday.

    Cons

Operational nightmare. Micro management. Human resources are actually who you report to. Bad experience overall.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The discount... if you can afford the products even with the discount.
Bonuses... If the company hasn't given unrealistic sales goals. (Which they always do and have stated to their shareholders and the public.) If you do make goal you can expect a measly 75 dollars without taxes.

If you are a regular employee you will receive 50 pier 1 dollars at Christmas.

It's a great job if you want to decorate your home and can deal with the laundry list of problems the company has failed to fix.

    Cons

Too focused on their share holders and not the interest of the employees that help them make money.

Disgruntful management that never fire employees or write them up.

    No communication between management.

Management that are not informed about what is happening with the company.

When there is a customer issue that is beyond your control management, they will most certainly not back you up. Any customer issues or complaints are YOUR fault. The company must look out for itself and not the employees.

The company wants most things to be done in a few hours. (Ex. Moving furniture around and setting up new sales in a few hours with very little staff.)

The reason there is such high turnover is because the company does not invest in their employees. They want a much older demographic to work in their stores who only want employees to work there for the discount and give them little hours and small pay. When they realize how much work they actually will be doing for such little pay they leave.

They hire employees from desperation and do not hire quality employees leading to an unmanageable staff.

They focus on their credit card so much that it often becomes unbearable. They spin new ways to sell their credit card which become their focus more than selling their merchandise.

They will lower your hours at a drop of a hat if they company needs to save money. Often as a sales lead you are supposed to work at least 20 hours. The actual hours you receive will normally be under that.

They will schedule you under 5 hours so you will not receive a lunch. Often employees are scheduled for a lunch but are not able to take it if no other management is in the store to watch the floor if you have to take a break.

management is not very encouraging. If you want to move up in the company they will give you a chance to interview but often leave you hanging whether you received the job of not.

The company will often blame its employees on not making their quarter.

If you want to work for this company be prepared to deal with a lot of issues.

    Advice to Management

I personally cannot give any advice to management because they are robots and are programmed to do and say certain things ( by corporate). They cannot help it that they are pawns to a money hungry company that refuses to pay all of its employees (with the exception of corporate) a living wage or better pay based on the amount of work and time they give to this company annually. When you have a corporation that does not have the employees best interest at heart and only caters to share holders who want to see more money in their pockets by their stock going up they will NEVER care about their employees. When you have a company that does not care about their employees, management tends to get disgruntful and resentful and those people then manage you. Be warned....
