I have been working at Pier 1 Imports

    Pros

Employee discount and some nice associates.

    Cons

Management is extremely under qualified for their positions. Management can often be seen gossiping about associates on the sales floor. Your job gets threatened every time you dont convince someone to open up a credit card. In the short time I worked there about 4 people quit and I know of two more who put in their 2 weeks. The company and management do not care about your wellbeing and job satisfaction. They also fail to recognize high turnover rates. If you do manage to trick someone into opening a credit card, management won't commend you, instead, they'll list off other things you should've done that day on top of it (like getting e mails from customers). Just please, do not work here. If you like this store, stay a customer, this job will destroy your happiness and self confidence.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Authoritarian ways of management are out the door and people dont respond well to it. Could use an update.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    1) Working at pier 1 gives you the opportunity to expand your creativity and play around with colors, shapes and sizes in merchandise. 2) Helping customers decorate their homes not only is fun but also develops a relationship with them. 3) Associates also receive a 25% discount which is nice.

    Cons

    1) Management looks down on associates for not reaching instant credit goals. 2)Associates are trained to push credit cards on customers making the customers very frustrated and not wanting to shop in the store. 3)Associates also cannot request days off during any holidays. 4) Most of the work I do at pier 1 is transitions and placing in the store, and so many hours with no break or 30 minutes break can really run you down. 5) Associates also are not appreciated for work they do, and are paid way to little to be climbing ladders and getting up in high lofts to bring large merchandise down. 6) managers talk down to associates if their hourly goals and conversion rates are not met blaming the associates. 7) Managers can schedule flex shifts so the associates have to wait all day and call in 2 hours before the shift to make sure they're working that day or not. 8) Most of the merchandise is moved almost every day making it hard for the customer to remember where everything is and also is tiring for the associates who know that the merchandise will be moved around again in two days. 9) Last but no least, pay is so low that pier 1 can literally only be a 2nd job, a "just for fun" job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1) Treat employees with more respect and care. 2) Give employees who have been there for hours a little break as talking to customers and moving merchandise can get very tiring. 3) Stop pushing the associates to sell so many ICC's. 4) Treat customers with more respect if they open a card and purchase 1,000 dollars worth of merchandise.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports

    Pros

Well this is easy, the pros are the discount and the people you work with. Customers are pretty good as well. Not many complaints.

    Cons

They absolutely abuse the "on call" system. Be prepared to have 3- 4 flex shifts (a.k.a. no shift). Work one useless 4 hour shift then call in up to 4 times a week in the middle of the day to see if they need you to come in. Thus holding you hostage till you get the green light to stay home and make no money. Try taking that to the bank. Unless your independently wealthy and looking to waste time at a home decor store just for giggles, get another job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Set some realistic expectations for the business needs so you don't have more than half of your staff on call for days on end.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    I can't think of any....the discount maybe.

    Cons

I thought this was going to be a super fun place to work part time. I don't need the job, but thought it would be a cool place to work part time. Not cool!!!!! I've had my own business for 30 plus years, so I know customer service. If conversion is low they blame it on the greeter...which I had to do alot. I wasn't saying the right thing, my voice wasn't loud enough, I'm not acting happy enough...on and on with scolding about this and that. Also, I left to go to the restroom for literally 1 minute and was yelled at because I didin't get permission. I thought it was weird how you have to hover and bother the customers constantly. Most people want to browse first in that kind of store. And then there's the paranoia about the door thing....OMG don't go near the door it might beep which affects conversion. One customer had several large packages and just wanted to come back in to get the rest and the team leader wouldn't let her because of the door beep thing! Are you kidding me? If you want to mess with this company and freak them out,
stand by the door for a really long time or go in and out repeatedly LoL!!....And they hate family's with kids because the door beeps too many times!!! They are trying to hard and act super desparate!!! I will not be staying here..it's pathetic!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Calm down and stop being mean, rude and crabby! Your employee's deserve to be treated with respect. Your constant turnover should be a clue.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports

    Pros

good for part time and someone who likes being a sales person. where i currently work the staff is really nice.

    Cons

Selling pier 1 cards is really annoying because you feel like your screwing them over. During holidays theres so much stuff it's hard to find what customers want sometimes. if you don't like being a sales person this is not for you.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

25% discount (but at the meager hourly wage, who can afford to buy anything?!)

    Cons

Store managers treat "store associates" like slaves. There is no recognition for a job well down, only fault-finding, This is particularly true at the Paoli, PA store. The rules and regulations and pressure to sell--especially the Pier One Rewards Card (credit card)--are onerous. Even though there's no recognition or reward, managers always tell associates the pressure is on them to sell, sell, sell. On one's feet for five hours straight; no breaks. I have logged more than three miles in a five-hour shift.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make employees feel they are worthwhile contributors to the process. Focus on praise, not reprimands.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports

    Pros

Employee discount is by far the best. 25% off of everything. It is also nice you get 3 weeks vacation from day 1 (going to need it working for Customer relations).

    Cons

It is worse then being in high school. The management and supervisor have nothing better to do the make comments about how you look, act, talk. To the point that it is bullying. I have over heard one supervisor make an ugly comment about an employee to another in front of that person. I would tell you go to HR but doing that nothing would come of it. Lots of employees both current and past have gone to HR and nothing has changed. They like to say we are 1 Pier 1. However, they don't pratice what they preach. Give holidays off. If the store is closed customer relations should be closed. No one wants to work Easter, thanksgiving, and Christmas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You left high school, it is time to grow up. People deserve respect. If store is closed everyone should be off. Including customer relations. We have families and would like to spend the holidays with them.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people to work with and they can make the day go by a lot faster. 25 % discount if you like shopping at Pier 1.

    Cons

hours vary week to week, depending on what they need. Sometimes its 30 hours a week other times 12 hours. Pay is terrible. The store manager would do our annual employee reviews without even discussing it with us, when we asked him about our reviews he said was working on it.

I honestly am not enjoying it here.

I have been working at Pier 1 Imports part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Occasionally you get nice people that you work with.

    Cons

I did not receive a choice of direct deposit or a paycard, they just gave me a paycard. The paycard that I believe is the standard is Metabank which is a terrible company in its self (money won't transfer to your bank correctly, awful customer service, etc.) I didn't get many hours a week, 5 hours tops, even if I am seasonal at a previous job I received 10-15 hours. And recently I never got paid for one of the days I worked there. Lastly when receiving shipments, many of the boxes are marked wrong or are indecipherable.

    Get organized.
